I want to expand my video game music playlist on youtube.

Ads are disabled, so hopefully you can just listen and find some music you enjoy without being interrupted by annoying Youtube ads.

If you have any recommendations, particularly from recent games that I might not have seen/heard yet, please let me know! :-)

I've just added Katana ZERO and Return of the Obra Dinn music; I finished and really enjoyed the former game, but don't have the latter yet.

The reviews and gameplay footage for Death Stranding make me unsure if I will enjoy the game itself or not, but there's no doubt it looks beautiful and it has a fantastic OST, it's tough to choose a couple of favourites but BB's Theme and Strands stand out so far.

I originally wanted to include only games that I have played and enjoyed, like A Hat In Time, LISA, Hotline Miami, Skyrim, Hyper Light Drifter, Journey, Catherine, Katana ZERO, and many, many more. But over the last couple of years, I have been discovering music from games I haven't played yet and have created several discussions here on Steamgifts to get more recommendations (here's one from 2 years ago with a quiz, if you're interested). So now my playlist also has some tracks from games I haven't played, like Neir Automata, Detroit Become Human, Valley, The Witcher 3, and loads more.

Thanks for reading, and even if you don't have anything to recommend, I hope you will maybe find some music that you like.

Here are a few giveaways for you wonderful people:

(giveaways ended)
Hiveswap: Act 1
Puss!
Paratopic
Cat Quest
Octahedron: Transfixed Edition

I might add some more if I get some new additions to my playlist!

Edit: Wow, so many amazing suggestions already! Thanks everyone, I'm gonna make my way through these now and see what I like. Cheers!

It's taking me a while but I am enjoying these recommendations, and have added several already! Cheers!

Nice one! Haven't heard of the game before either - cool old-school music and a decent looking Castlevania clone. Cheers!

Deus Ex - Main Theme

(I'm glad you already have the Halo theme in that list. I'd recommend something off the Outlaws soundtrack, but I'm not sure if it'd fit very well since it's definitely classic Morricone-style western, but it's a very good soundtrack.)

Could also recommend Deus Ex Human Revolution - Icarus (Main Theme), most anything from Grim Fandango, and maybe a random track from The Neverhood.

Also, any idea what got removed from the list? (#22, between Nier - Wretched Weaponry and Far Cry 3 - Main Theme)

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. I deleted the video but didn't realise it didn't remove it from my playlist automatically.

It was a track from the Furi OST, which was removed because of a copyright claim. I can't remember which specific track I had chosen, and I'm not sure why there are still hundreds of the songs on Youtube but mine was flagged, but that's youtube for you ;-)

I now wish I had played Deus Ex Human Revolution. I played and enjoyed the original game, then didn't play another until a few years ago when I tried Mankind Divided, but didn't really get on with it. But yes, DE:HR's soundtrack seems fantastic, that's a great choice. Thank you!

Yeah, it's one of my first choice of soundtracks to put on for background music while I'm doing other things. If it's a safe-for-work situation though, always have to make sure to remember to pull the Hengsha Brothel track out of the mix though!

(I haven't played MD yet, but it's definitely one I've been meaning to get to!)

Wow, never heard of the game before, but that's a superb soundtrack. Thank you! I'm gonna need a few more listens to pick a favourite I reckon. Any that stand out for you? Track 2 is great. Shame the game didn't do so well.

Oh man, that is a hell of a question, like asking me which chunk of pure gold I think is the shiniest! I guess I'd have to say the very first track is probably my favorite, but after having just given the whole thing another listen, I think that tracks 5, 6, 9, 12, 14, 18, and 22 are among the best.

I got the game for free a long while back as part of a game review thing I was doing at the time, and the review I ended up giving was very positive. Very underrated game, in my opinion, and that's coming from someone who typically doesn't care much for top-down loot 'em ups like Diablo or Sacred. Killer soundtrack, of course, but also pretty good gameplay and a very nice atmosphere. And holy crap, the final boss fight is a hell of a (boss) rush.

Whenever I see folks asking for good game soundtracks, I always try to make sure to plug this one because it's amazing, it's free, and the game itself really could use more exposure. I oughta reinstall it soon for another playthrough.

Looks like one of the videos in your playlist was deleted, hate when that happens (lost a remix of a Split/Second song years ago which I loved due to that happening, wish I'd downloaded it). Anyhow, here are a few good ones:

Farcry 5 - We Will Rise Again
A Hat in Time - Your Contract Has Expired (fan made version with Lyrics)
Hand of Fate

I'd also recommend checking out the music from the Suikoden games. I haven't played the games, but some of the music is really good :)

Thanks man. I enjoyed Far Cry 3 a lot, 4 a little, and haven't tried the later ones since they've had mixed reviews. But damn that's a great song, definitely gonna have to add that.

I have a couple favourites from A Hat In Time, such a great game!

Furi used to be in my playlist - out of over 100 songs I had, it's the only one that was removed due to a copyright claim (i don't really get how it works, because there are hundreds of other youtube videos with the same songs and whole ost - but mine was flagged and removed for some reason!). So yeah... not bothering with Furi anymore.

Life is Beautiful from Deadly Premonition is wholesome. Fly Me to the Moon from Bayonetta is a banger. a bunch of songs from Devil May Cry are rad, Devil Trigger be one of the recent ones. Fifteen Minutes by Mike Krol is the ending song for Monster Prom. Still Alive and Want You Gone from Portal are classics. Yakuza karaoke songs are funny and good. The voice actor for Kiryu, Takaya Kuroda, actually has a singing career

I'm currently playing Hollow Knight, and waiting until I beat it to pick a favourite track :-) I'm kind of stuck though, not sure where I am supposed to go at the moment. Beaten a few bosses, bought a bunch of stuff from the shops, unlocked a few areas.. but I am getting tired of backtracking trying to find where I am supposed to go next. Frustrating.

I finished it a couple of days ago and now i'm doing a steel soul mode playthrough. Way more exciting than the normal one!
I understand your frustration. I was feeling the same on my 1st playthrough. You should try to locate all traversing upgrades first, like mantis claw. Then the game becomes easier since you can go anywhere you like. Won't say anything else so i don't spoil sth.
Hope you having a blast with the game as i did. ^^

Depends on what you like; right now, I'm looking at my VGM collection of over 3000 songs, and looking to add bits and pieces of about 200 more soundtracks to that, because I am a huge VGM dork. If you give me a genre(?) and/or an era, I can give some recommendations, but I tend to lean toward stuff from 8- and 16-bit consoles.

I'm leaning more towards more modern era of gaming - similar to the rest on my list. There are a couple of exceptions with some older ones like Monkey Island and Mario, but mostly newer music where they had much more creativity rather than being limited to the old technology. If you see the current list and think of any that I might like, I'd be glad to hear your experienced suggestions :-)

This could be a little tougher, but I think I have some things that you might like. Some of these are going to be older, but I think they might fit. Also, sorry: I don't know how to hyperlink the words, so you'll have clunky-looking links at the end.

  • Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension - Surprisingly mellow for a Dragon Ball Z game, and the samples add to that vibe.
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - This was during Capcom's Smooth Jazz era, and while I prefer Breath of Fire 3 over this any day, this one's a bit more low-key.
  • Mega Man 8 - I know this is going to sound like an odd choice against your playlist, but this is just about the opposite of most any Mega Man game; it's from that early era of PSX games, where composers aimed for a more elegant sound.
  • Momodora: Reverie in the Moonlight - Lots of chill, atmospheric music.
  • SaGa Frontier - I'll always recommend this; it's on the older side, but lots of moods here, and the instrumentation is very strong. I'm not sure if you'll like all of it, but you'll probably enjoy Sunset Town, Blue's Town, and... whatever the Region Map music is called.
  • Time Trax - The 50hz version is how it's supposed to sound, since it was composed by the Follin Brothers for PAL systems; the 60hz version sounds like bad aerobic workout music from the early '90s. This one kinda winds and meanders, and is good to just zone out to.

Thank you! Some nice ones in Momodora for sure, and I enjoyed the Time Trax first track too, cheers!

By the way, if yo want to put links in text in the future, just put the text you want to display in square brackets [ like this ] but without the spaces, and then immediately after put the link inside normal brackets ( like this ) but again without the spaces. So it should look [ like this ]( link here ) but remove the spaces. like this!

Out There Somewhere - when I first started the game I was greeted by this lo-fi theme and I just had to dance a jig to it :]
One Way Heroics - took me 4 minutes to start the game because I just kept waiting for a good point for the piano to stop.
Rakuen - Just blown away by this melody on starting the game and just let it play for 10 minutes in the background before I remembered I needed to play it B)
Super Daryl Deluxe - Just this trailer song had me wanting to wishlist this game right away <3
The Longest Five Minutes - The sense of urgency, the piano build-up, just damn, you feel how dire things are for the hero based on this soundtrack. Love it <3

One that I'll always recommend: Wild ARMs - Into the Wilderness

I was going to mention 2 from ICO, but since you already have one of them I imagine you also know about the rest but I'll still mention the second one: ICO - You Were There

Grim Fandango - Coaxing Meche

To mention a newer one: Gravity Rush OST - Old Town

I guess if you liked the Death Stranding OST you can look into the OSTs of the Metal Gear Solid series.

It's kinda hard to pin point at one thing though since there are all sorts of music in games.

Maybe check out Shantae and Mighty Switch Force since you have Shovel Knight in your list.

Also since someone here put Everlasting Summer I'll also add another free Visual Novel: Sepia Tears

Thank you! Shantae's music reminds more of A Hat In Time a little, very enjoyable! I think it's the kind of soundtrack I would appreciate more if I had played the game. Will give it a few more listens for sure.

Shovel Knight, Shantae, and Mighty Switch Force all have soundtracks made by Jake Kaufman, so you might want to look into him. He started off doing video game remixes. Some of his own songs that are not attached to games are great too.

Honestly, I was surprised at the amount of times I found out that some of my favorite game soundtracks and game remixes were created by him.

I had a hard time choosing which Animal Crossing music to add to my playlist, there are so many chill tracks.

I loved Paper Mario - when the hell are they gonna make a new one! I just went through all 100+ tracks on the OST, and in the end liked the intro music, the first track, the best :-)

Thank you for these!
