It's my party, and I'll release a Mystery Bundle even if you don't want to đś
They probably have some 5 interns who's daily tasks include only pumping out hundreds of mystery bundle styles and names and they just keep the same bundle every time and switch up only the design.
And price is decided probably by throwing darts at board in the morning while drinking coffee. And when they sleep in, they just keep the previous price.

Jokes aside I don't know if those people want the attention they get through the comments, are addicted to gambling, have some extra dollars to throw away carelessly, or they are just stupid. Combinations of these may also exist.

how can something be good and a scam at the same time - that's like saying something works and is broken all at once

I might be wrong here, because I'm not the OP, but I think I can see what they mean;
It may be a 'good' buy for people who do not have many games, or have only recently begun PC gaming as they wouldn't already have all of these games, as some of the bundles' games are actually pretty good, even if they have been bundled a million times before. However, it is a 'scam' for others who already have all of these games from previous bundles, so buying them doesn't give a reasonable return on the price they paid (if they already own the games they recieve), thus resulting in a worse deal.
But I personally would stay away from 'mystery bundles' mostly, I'd rather know what I'm buying when I'm buying something, because then I know (or at least feel) that I am getting what I actually want, for (hopefully) a reasonable price.

I guess @Alpha2749 explained it pretty well but that was the intention. Most of the time, one can get 4-6 above average games from these bundles which would be a good price for those who missed many gazzilion of bundles. But for people like us, we'll only get things we already own, so it's a scam.

Maybe you should learn the meaning of the word Scam.
They don't promise you something that they don't hold, they don't charge you and don't deliver the keys or something like that. So they don't scam you.
You get what you pay for....
Bad (if you buy regular/sometimes normal bundles and/or have a big steam library) Mystery Games

OK, I think scam would not be the correct word but it's close. They show all the best games you can get while buying the bundle while in reality, the chance is 0.000001% or less. But "kids" don't see that and try to buy the bundle for that chance, they gamble for thing that they will most likely not win and "waste" the money.
I think buying from grey market have a better chance of getting a good key (that would not be invalidated later) then getting a good game from these mystery bundles...

Nah, a good number of the 'mystery bundles' that advertise some of the higher value items would quality for the term 'scam' to a certain degree out of being misleading, where they deliberately exclude certain details in how it works. For instance, having a very limited stock of high value items, and once all of those said items have been given out, they continue to sell the random key bundles under the pretense of having high value items in them that they no longer actually have. Even scams like to float a small amount of seeded 'wins' to attract attention to the supposed legitimacy of their gig. Hell, its deliberately engineered so that when you search up the random games you got that you've never heard of and will probably never play, you see their non-sale value in steam and feel its 'good value' even when the game is just plainly overpriced and never sells even when on sale. My go-to example of this is Spirited Hearts Deluxe. Still goes for ÂŁ15, still absolute garbage. Was one of the go-to mystery fillers, and used to hear plenty of people showing it in their list of purchases with "Hey pretty good!". Heh.
Mystery key stuff never changes.
Which isn't to say this particular mystery thing is a scam, but honestly the whole phenomenon isn't well regulated. If they can call this a 'bundle' instead of a 'bulk discount', then I figure people can scoff and equally misname them a 'scam' instead of a 'blatant waste of money', y'know?
GOG did do some random key things a ways back, and I feel they did it right by announcing (I forget where) when certain prizes were out of stock, or when the games in the current random rotation were switched out. They also (claimed to) weight the odds a little so that if you already owned a game from the list in your GOG account, you had less chance of getting it. It also helped that they weren't just trying to offload a backlog of junk keys that wouldn't move in other bundles either, heh.

I'm getting tired of people calling those mystery bundles a scam. Are they worth the money? Probably not, especially for people who purchase game bundles regularly. Some people will buy those in hopes to get a great pull, some unbundled game worth more than what they have paid for. Most often than not, it's not going to happen. It's a gamble. But it's not a scam. You get what you pay for. And unlike lottery, you are actually guaranteed to receive something. It's not a scam. Stop saying that.

It's a gamble. But it's not a scam. You get what you pay for.
None of "gambling", "scam", "value for money / getting what you pay for" have uncontroversial definitions among the users of this forum.
For example, the overwhelming majority of Fanatical lootbox content reports are made up of notably worse goods than what the buyers would otherwise get for the money, whether that's buying regular Fanatical bundles or buying game keys somewhere else. Should I now ask you to stop calling that getting what you pay for?
(There's vastly fairer lootboxesâin the sense that they provide more value for the expended moneyâboth in the gaming world and outside of it.)
