For this discussion, a "bad game" is one with poor reviews that you don't otherwise see a reason to play.

What do you normally do with a key to a bad game that has cards?

View Results
I put it on a giveaway
I try to trade it
I just keep it in hope that one day I'd be able to make up my mind
I activate it anway. The hell with library clutter, I want the cards!
Other

I refuse to add shit games just for silly cards,i know you can hide it from showing but i still know it is there.

I do not collect badges nor cards nor games,i only activate ones i intend to play now enjoying them enough to play them a lot is another matter but pretty much every game i have i do like and it because i am selective when i activate games.

I do have some ones i regret and thought i would like, and a couple not so good ones from key drops,so now i try stay away from random key drops without the name of the game lol

Anyhow i am not saying those who it for the cards or to add to the game count are foolish,it just not my style i do not see the point of having 1,000 plus games just to sit and never be played, nor badges level of like 200 or what not.

I do however craft at least one badge for the games i really like to show my support of the game and that i like it,but i have never spent a dime doing it

There needs to be a option for trade or do a GA as that is usually what i do with games i do not want, though i have GA more then i have traded, usually i only trade dupes of good games for other games i want, but lately i have created a GA for some good games

Bad games are the best games.

No such thing as a trash game if it has cards. Even the thieving asset abomination of a game known as Uncrowded as redeeming value in its cards.

And most (if not all) community market transactions have a developer/publisher fee, so this thieving behaviour is further encouraged.

I agree. I've learned a lot of things in the 4 months since I posted that. If it weren't for trading cards I think we would have a few less bad games.

A game isn't "bad" until I say that it is. I have seen so many games with bad reviews that weren't nearly as bad as people claimed and I've seen AAA games with great ratings which IMO sucked. Unfortunately my backlog doesn't reflect this as I have obtained many games from bundles lately but I do try to attempt to play a game for at least an hour or so before I condemn it. My exceptions to this self-imposed rule are Bad Rats and Uriel's Chasm. Thankfully they had cards valued at more than what I paid for either game.

I activated bad rats. For the cards. Worst decision of my life.

I don't collect cards, gems, badges, or virtual Steam cock rings. I'd rather get shot in the head with a small moon. So the answer is a resounding HELL TO THE FUCK NO!

I don't collect any of those either. The value of cards is simple - you get money for them, and you can buy games with this "free" money.

With that said, I don't activate a game for the cards. It has to be appealing enough to play, even if that day will never come for some games.

This. I made already a good amount from all those games that are being given out for free everyday.

With my way of thinking today, I would not activate all tho, but as I already activated tons before when more card-hungry, I just go all the way through it from now on.

Even without cards! Carpe diem

If the game can't be given away and I don't think anyone will want to trade for it, I'll activate it just for that meaningless +1 on my profile. Seize the carp!

By your definition, there are no bad games. I play all of them before I decide whether or not I count them as bad, so there's always a reason to play them.

I'm willing to try anything once. There are some genres that I'm not usually a fan of and don't enter for here, but even in those genres, there are a couple of games that I've liked. That's why I activate all my bundle games, and why I have legitimate non-idled playtime in about 900 games on Steam.

Ah, Yirg. What a moral person you are.
I do activate said games and farm the cards.
However, there is a method to my madness.
Once I reach a certain Steam level I plan to sell booster packs for Steam wallet, and use the Steam wallet for giveaways.
At least...that's the long term plan. I have no idea if it'll work or not. :P

I do plan to eventually play everything in my library, be it good or bad.
I won't guarantee that I'll play through the entire game, but at least I tried to respect the game.
Even though I secretly know that's not going to happen, I can have a goal, right? :)

I don't even want the key. I actively avoid receiving "bad" games because I don't want garbage in my library.

Trading cards give the developers money- not a lot per-person, but..

I'm neither going to deal with the stress of activating, farming, and asking for removal (and forget about keeping it in library), nor am I going to support such scammy, disinterested, or inept developers.

So no, I won't bother taking keys for trashy games when they're given.
In the rare instance where I do end up with such a game, I do try and give it away, however-
My perspectives shouldn't influence someone else's right to decide the game's value, and I abhore waste besides.

I guess Other: I keep an alt account just for that, then opened it up on STM and also put up a trade link so people can just get anything in 1:1 any game trades to complete their sets; plus I use it on a bi-weekly car lottery for fun.
Also, some of these lower-rated or cheap games can be surprising. I have acquired an additional copy of 2-3 so far to play them properly through on my main after trying them for curiosity's sake.

I also use them in trades, although I usually want to get games that are even worse (especially if literally nobody has it on their want list), as long as I can continue to get cards from them for the reasons detailed previously.

iĀ“m neither interested in increasing my games counter nor farming cards. so probably the winner wants or probably he even wants to play the game (sometimes even a bad rated game can looks interesting and let you give it a try). so i give the "bad" games away^^

With 1500 games in your library, you can easily make $100 off cards with practically zero effort (using the right tools).

Steam IdleMaster to get all the cards, then Steam Inventory Helper (Chrome extension) to bulk sell them.

I know, and I should. I farmed them for a while, but then, believe it or not... I didn't like that it looked like I played all those games when it's not true. Not that I find it shameful, it's just... false information. I guess I should keep it real and get those cards.

But we should probably get going, before they're all priced 3 cents and impossible to sell!

Those cheap ones I'd buy to level up ;-) The sale events will bump up the prices again, Valve will keep the market going

Sometimes I'd play the game because bad games is my guilty pleasure. Sometimes collect achievement. Sometimes just farm the cards because I doesn't have time to play. So it's maybe later.

And I'd enjoyed these games so much :
-. Bad Rats (73%)
-. Global Ops: Commando Libya (40%)
-. Heavy Fire: Afghanistan (53%)
-. Attrition: Nuclear Domination (34%)
-. Manhunter (31%)
-. Botology (20%)
-. Humanity Asset (27%)

Sometimes I hate negative games that troll the player like :
-. Journey To The Light (scam games)
-. Some games (not all games) by Digital Homicides Studios

Sometimes bad are bad because unresponsive control like :
-. SUPER DISTRO
-. Gunworld
-. robotEX

If I don't seem to like the game, I give it away... I didn't farm the cards of 80% of my games and I don't plan to do it (I will simply get the cards when I will play & finish the game).

I don't add game that I don't like. Except games with achievements, especially with easy one. Achievement hunters unite!
