Another small change is that only the person that deleted the comment will now be able to undelete it.
Thats permanently deleting proofs -.- Somebody say "fake" > got reported > he removed the comment > no ban -.-

Ok then, I guess this new regulation must be followed. But could we get an option to "hide" a comment then? Something that works like the old delete option so if we have a change of heart we can restore the comment after the 5 minutes limit.
I suppose implementing that shouldn't be that hard if it's basically just recycling the old deleting process.

If the comment is removed by a moderator, that moderator will also have 5 minutes to undelete the comment before it is cleared.
Moderators have the power to delete comments? I have yet to discover such an ability. Perhaps it is restricted to the Supers?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Uh, no.
SteamTrades has been abandoned.
EDIT: I stand corrected! Sort of.
Similar changes were enacted on SteamTrades, so the answer to the question is "yes."
However, I stand by my comment that SteamTrades has been abandoned. Prior to posting these updates -- which were only done because of the changes in EU data privacy laws -- cg hadn't posted anything on SteamTrades since November 2013.

SteamTrades updates were just released today.

Interesting... I did use the delete comment part as a method to store messages to myself temporarily, but I suppose it's not a big loss.
Although at the same time I don't see a big gain either. I don't see storing those comments, meant for public eyes in the first place, as a privacy concern.

It's sad that the legislator had to step in in order for websites to implement this obvious proper behavior... I guess that for once that's taxpayer's money well spent. Something rarer than a total solar eclipse 👀🙃

Well if they see the errors of their ways and fix their own behavior by themselves, that's fine IMO. No need to involve bureaucracy. Less work for mods and less drama, everyone wins.

If you just screenshot everything you report, put it on imgur or a photo upload site of your choice and paste it within your report! evil laugh everything on the internet is permanent if you are clever :3

Seems there will be more changes in the near coming future. What will they be? :o

EU citizens are allowed to ask to have their accounts deleted
They're allowed to have their personal data deleted.
https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/law-topic/data-protection/reform/what-personal-data_en
There isn't much we'd need to delete, the only point that seems questionable is whether a link to a Steam profile could be considered personal data.

why not allow deleting entire accounts?
I think it's obvious why we want to avoid this here, we'd need at least a way to ensure a deleted account cannot register again, or anyone could easily "fix" their not activated wins, empty their blacklist or whatever they want.
It would also be impossible to notice that someone registered a new account after a permanent suspension for example if they deleted it.

Deleted accounts could be forbidden to re-register
That means we still need to keep the Steam ID of that user, so we cannot fully delete their data if requested

it wouldn't be accessible publicly
I don't think that's relevant in regards with regulation compliance, which I thought is still what this is about but maybe I misunderstood something

You're using the "bad users" argument though as if it's the majority of the users.. How about all the rest of the people here who didn't break any rules? Why can't they ask for their account to be deleted? Account deletion should be an option for people who have followed the rules of the site. It can be up to the administrator to check that whoever asks for their account to be deleted doesn't have any suspensions/bans pending and if all is well they can be.. free to go. And what if they want to re-register at a later date? Is there a reason that this shouldn't be allowed under a new account? And it shouldn't really be "questionable" whether linking to a person's profile is personal data..

is there any place yet to see all comments written? like it's cool to be able to delete, but how will you actually find it?

The only way is if someone replies and going into your "inbox"

Can we get a "mass" deletion? I feel this community has gotten too toxic or PC depending on the crowd.
I'd like to scrub any and all interactions I've had on this site.

Hey everyone,
You probably noticed a lot of services rethinking how they collect and store user data with the upcoming privacy regulations in the EU. We're going to be making a few changes to SG during the next month as well, and today I'm focusing on how comments are deleted. Previously, when you clicked the button to delete a comment, it was flagged as deleted in our database, and that allowed you to undelete your comment at any point in the future.
Starting today, it works a little differently. When you click the button to delete a comment, you only have a 5 minute period to undelete the comment in case you clicked the button by accident or changed your mind. After then, the comment author and description will be cleared, and the undelete button will no longer be available. If the comment is removed by a moderator, that moderator will also have 5 minutes to undelete the comment before it is cleared.
If there are no replies to the cleared comment, then it will be completely removed from our database, and it will no longer be visible in the corresponding discussion or giveaway. If the comment has replies, then the cleared comment will remain visible for as long as those replies exist.Another small change is that only the person that deleted the comment will now be able to undelete it. In the past, moderators could undelete a user comment if it needed to be reviewed. Now, that is no longer possible to ensure the comment is always deleted as intended by the user.
Edit: I should also mention that all previously deleted comments have been permanently removed, and that is why you'll notice the undelete option is not available for those.
Edit 2: There has been a revision today. Although comments are still permanently deleted after 5 minutes, the empty comments will always remain visible on the site for reference and permalinks.
