Okay cool story, I traded 8 keys for the new divinity game. He went first with a giftable copy and said that I shall give the keys to his mate. Thats how I did. Everything seemed fine.

2 Hours later I get a notice of the steam support, that the gift was deleted due to problems with the payment. When I can`t even trust giftable copies, DAFUQ is this shitty trading even worth.

Mother of...Any idea how I can proceed? Is it even worth to contact steam support?

Kind regards.....

(so frustrated here atm)

Yeah just contact them, since the trade was in the trade window the trade can and will be reversed.

They should reverse the trade, but it depends on the support member.

they wont because of this part 'and said that I shall give the keys to his mate. Thats how I did.'there will be very hard to prove that it's the same trade. basicly if there's a third party involved don't trade. Steam will only intervene in direct trades. With the third guy getting the keys it is very unlikely he will get a refund.

this. i don´t know why he gave the keys to a third guy. that doesn´t make any sense and Looks 100% like a scam

That's the catch of the scam, he traded the keys separately.

Ah right, despite reading it I totally forgot about it after reading the "is it even worth contacting" and "giftable"

Its the risk I think with trades. Before do that again check the profile and be sure the guy is somehow trusted or anything, no new account, years of experience, +reps, games on his account, etc.

Its just pathethic really, im sitting here in my bed with a broken leg due to an accident, so happy to play new games with the keys I bought from my money, just to realise that you get fu cked in the face again by life.

People dont have any moralities these days. Just sad...

Sorry man, next time be more cautious, cause you have been too innocent.
Probably if you spent the money on any sale on any site you could have purchased new games for cheap without having to be so cautious.

No reason you shouldn't have traded it in the same window, that way you could've gotten your keys back, let it be a lesson for you for the next time.

iam sorry to tell u this but 99% chance u wont get ur keys back.
Steam give it back the keys IF u trade directly with the person
ex: u give me the keys in the trade window and i give u a "unpayed" game copy version
steam will undo the trade giving back your keys.

ex2: i give u the game first than u give the keys to a third account lets say a friend of mine account after i gave u the game.
steam cant "undo" the trade since u get the game for "free" in the log with the person who gave u the game will display that u gave nothing for it, so they wont give ur stuff back
its a shame but thats how steam works and its writen on the suport rules about this kinda of illegal trade
good luck u will need it

If you used the trade window you can ask Steam to reverse the trade.

I've never heard of Divinity OS scams though but there are tons of DayZ scams out there.

I just read that you made 2 separate trades. Too bad because support won't do anything for you. Just report him to Steamrep and hope he gets marked as a scammer.

Honestly, this seems very much like screwing over the person that was scammed purely because the scammer can.

When the trade gets reversed, the keys don't get yanked since more often than not, they've changed hands already, which means removing them would just hurt an unrelated party. Doing it this way doesn't change anything at all for the person doing the chargeback scam since they still get their keys and Valve eventually kills off the account for chargeback. The only difference is that the person being scammed can't get their keys back at all. It's pure spite, nothing more.

Yup, that's why you don't accept giftable only copies or do gift trades outside of the window with randoms. Especially when they get their "friends" involved.

Did you check his SteamRep profile or something before trading?

The friend I sent the keys had pages over pages with + rep comments on his profile...He had lots of keys in his inventory and around 70 + games. It was an active account at least...

contact valve. if a trade was done through steams trading system, they'll POTENTIALLY reverse it as long as they believe your story (which should have sent off alarms to you, to be honest, trading keys to his 'mate' rather than getting the mate to give the gift to the account you were trading with)

I got "scammed" for Rust with 3 keys, but I was able to get my keys back after contacting steam support. I'm actaully glad that I got my keys back because Rust ended up being a terrible experience for me.

Sorry, I don't think you can reverse the trade.

Don't trust the profile reps. Because most ppls sell the reps for stuff. If you don't know, heres a link http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/what-constitutes-reputation.12391/

I don't know why they don't do like gifts that wouldn't be tradable until verification... That'd make everyone happier, and safer... and it wouldn't take more than a few days to verify the payment, which I could honestly bare if it was for safety reasons.

Its just dumb, I mean. When I cant trust in giftable copies you better shouldnt trade with anyone...Since you never know if the payment was from an stolen paypal account or something.

Only guys with +1000 rep in steamtrades can be trusted. But be aware, he may have impersonaters! Mother of...This is so f ucked up.

Even steamtrades rep thing is biaised, I mean I'm fully honest, but new to the system so I only have a 11/0 rep there. The guy you gave keys to was, as I read, full of +rep pages, that didn't stop him from taking your keys... :/

Trust is hard to gain, even more over the Internetz... sad world we live in :(

Rep means nothing, this is the internet, it's like living in the wildlife out there. You are on your own, trust nobody but yourself and always carry a flamethrower with you.

Putting any sort of trust in situations like this will just make you an easy target, don't worry, we all go through it once in a while. I've never been scammed on steam, but i've been hacked before in other games for dumb decisions.

I've seen high rep traders scam newcomers to trades, of course it's not a common sight but it does happen. Humans are greedy by nature, when they see the chance to fuck someone else, they will do it. I myself don't like to do any of this stuff to others, i find no pleasure for doing such things, unless it's against scammers/hackers themselves.

why would steam detect the problem after the game is activated. it looks like they are supporting the scammers to continue doing this

"and said that I shall give the keys to his mate" <--- from this it sounded really fishy already when he could give the keys to his friend himself

Honestly, I don't want to be a dick about it all, but I have absolutely no pity for you. You should have realized that something was up the moment he said to give the keys to a third party. It's just bloody common sense, mate. Ultimately, Valve is under no obligation to recompense you, as they are not under the burden of proof to prove that you giving the keys to a third party is at all related to so-and-so giving you a bad gift.
