Take a different route around or begin to adjust to different styles of weapons. And, for the sniper problem, throw down a smoke grenade where you always get shot from and run straight past. Grenades are very useful, take high advantage of them

You can't kill someone with a shot in the foot using the AWP.
It does ~90 damage to anything lower than waist.
Arm and hand shots, however, do enough damage to kill in one hit.

I guess I should have said I've been playing on a Deathmatch server so there is not chance to throw a grenade down before aiming, you get the weapon as you go up levels. I do well until I get to those darn sniper rifles and it takes me forever to get off them unless I knife someone. People are quick on that site, but I love playing it. They probably get irritated at me, but I've only been playing it for a month.

I love the AWP, but the others take time to load even when crouched and I move from line of sight, there always seems to be one homing in on me, maybe they know I'm a noob and an easy kill. But I like playing anyway.

That looks like Arms Race.
In Arms Race just go around shooting people. When you get to the awp, stand still and aim. You ought to hit someone at some point.
Aiming in CS is just practice, really. Don't give up!

I do that frequently, but the bots are slightly stupid even on medium. It doesn't think like a person, but I played with bots first before going on DoGz Gungame Deathmatch 24/7. Sort of fell into that server by accident, but like the fast-paced games.

"I'm a 60 year old female"
Goes on Steam profile
"World's deadliest 13 year old"
Something seems wrong here.

Pay attention to what everyone else is doing, and don't stay in open areas for too long.
As a beginner, I think it's a good idea to follow/stay near your teammates.

Stay behind cover, of bullets and view. Don't go where the enemy will look, stay further behind, where nobody thinks of looking. Don't rush, unless you have your secondary weapon ready (pistol).
It's all about staying hidden, taking aim quickly but carefully, and obviously, shooting at the right moment.

Get a decent mouse with at least 2000dpi
tweak the settings and finds a sweet spot on your mouse, adjusting the dpi. One trick to know if you have the sweet dpi spot setting is you can quickly move your mouse on a icon or object without passing over or not reaching it. Tweak your dpi until you can quicly snap your mouse from object to object precisely. Once you have your dpi setting, set your sensitivity to "1.0" ingame, Remove mouse acceleration, and turn on raw input
Now, try playing in bots, look forward. Try to move your hand while holding the mouse from your normal position to a 90 degree position or until where your hand feel comfortable to be positioned if you want to turn 180 back. Check if you are doing a perfect 180 deg turn, if you are turning less, turn your sensitivity up by 0.1 everytime, then retest. If you are overshooting, turn your sensitivity down to 0.1 everytime and retest.
Now try to practice sniping in hard bots, with settings bot_quota 16 so there's more enemy to shoot.

This sounds like good advice. I probably do need a new mouse.

actually the mouse is not thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat important, to be a good sniper you MUST pay attention to sounds, small movements and of course the map because the map will show their location everytime someone find the enemy, with that information you can think about a strategy to kill them far way without being noticed
oh, and remember to use shift when there are only a few people alive...

I really appreciate all of this information. I have been observing and I do sometimes rush, but this will all help me improve my game. Thanks.

I forgot to mention on more tip... Bluff.
Bluff it. You can bluff any way you want, you can bluff to leave a spot, but in fact you came right back. You can bluff to stay somewhere, but you actually moved somewhere else. It won't work everytime, but when it does, I go on a slaughter killstreak. :D

Lots of videos out there that can help you, I recommend to play on 4;3 400 dpi and atleast 1-1.5 sens in game (get used to by stages) Check out many videos out there, I recommend AdreN_TV on youtube and warowl (very cool dude he is super nice) they give good tips on how and what. This games takes years to master, and even then you wont be perfect. If you want to improve your aim overall do aim maps or deathmatches which are the best ways to handle fast crosshairmovement and ammo management

pretty basic, but perhaps so simple no one ever told you: when firing, use short quick bursts.
if more than three bullets come out of the gun per click, you're probably doing it wrong (unless you're intentionally using "spray and pray" and/or suppressive tactics).
the reason is because the longer you fire, the more inaccurate your shots will be.
in a large firefight, it's very hard at first to maintain the short quick bursts, but if you do, you'll usually come out on top (assuming you've already got the "aiming" part down that all the other posts here advised for practice)
also, if you have a good friend to play with 1-on-1, it's better aim practice than bots, imho -- you can have them run and jump around just trying to dodge your shots as close or as far away as you need practice with. more human movement there, and also you'll be getting more accustomed to any latency incurred between what you see and what the server sees (back in my 56k days, I always had to lead my targets by about a half a centimeter -- shouldn't be as bad in these broadband days, but there's probably still some "I totally hit that, WTF?!" moments due to lag).

OK, you now know I'm a 60-year old female playing these games, but can someone give me some tips on how to handle those darn sniper rifles in CS:GO. I die so quickly and wonder how the other team can snipe so easily. I hear there is a program that makes you aim quicker, but that's cheating and I would really like to get better in the game myself. Any suggestions on how to improve my skills?
