Nice idea?
Ok, the votes are against me for now, but I find it an excellent idea and that's all that matters. xD :B

Why spammy? o.O It will be just a small signature, not a text about your life and the dessert you ate yesterday. xD It will be limited in one small sentence.
Comment has been collapsed.
With the same logic, the potato polls aren't spamming then? -_- The signature would be limited to a few words and links wouldn't be allowed.
Comment has been collapsed.
potato is superior in every way, u can literally live on it.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can't survive by eating only potatoes. You'd probably die in a few weeks. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
no you would not. After few weeks/months you would start showing sympthoms of lacking vit A, B12 and E and calcium, as these are not high in potatoes, but you surely would not die. In old times poor people often lived on almost only potatoes, as these were cheap and easilly accessible for them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope. Milk isn't really necessary. If you eat carrots extremely often, you just increase the rick of getting cancer, because they will work mostly as prooxidants, rather than prooxidants. Well, oil is good. :B
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope, you won't show symptoms of lacking calcium. We're the only animals that keep drinking milk after growing up, something we don't really need to do. You would show lack of most vitamins and you would probably die after some weeks (well, approximately, because it depends on the organism - maybe even months). It's not old times anymore. There are a lot more diseases now. If you'll think of the pesticides and the mycotoxins in the potatoes too, I would say you would die even faster. xD
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't need calcium? lol... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium#Nutrition
And if you would die after few weeks how the hell did anyone from lower class survive middle-ages? Heck even nowadays there are cases of man eating nothing but potatoes for 2 months and he was totally fine (http://www.livescience.com/10163-man-eating-potatoes-2-months.html).
Comment has been collapsed.
Nope, you don't really need it, at least not from milk. You may need it when you're old, but still, even if you avoid getting calcium for years, you'll notice that the amounts of calcium in your organism will remain stable. Yes, you can get it from other sources too, but I know people that never ate dairy or drank milk, but always had a good amount of calcium. So, it's not as much needed as you may think. As I said before, it's not the old times anymore. New diseases, new microorganisms, a lot more sensitive stomachs, but also, it depends on the organism (others may survive for weeks, others for months, etc.). And nobody was eating only potatoes in middle ages. xD
Comment has been collapsed.
1) I'm a food technologist.
2) It's not 100% unnecessary. You need it when you're a baby and when you're very old. Also, you need it when you're low on calcium because of health problems or because your diet "destroys" your calcium (I couldn't find the right verb to use).
3) I'm saying that based on scientific sources, not from random internet posts that say: "OMG, he survived with only eating potatoes - also, look at 10 tricks to make yourself look younger".
4) Don't be sorry. Everyone's free to have their own opinion.
Comment has been collapsed.
didn't know wikipedia articles especially backed by over 20 scientific works and articles in this case related to calcium in nutrition counts as random internet posts nowadays ;) for me someone randomly posting on let's say gaming related forum saying you don't need calcium unless you are baby or old person falls much better to "random internet post" category :>
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I remember a wikipedia article that a girl has written about a singer and she was saying that she is in love with him (yep, true story). I must totally believe wikipedia articles and not what my professors were saying over the years, you're right. :B Calcium is in your bones. If your body needs calcium, it means that you probably don't really have a great bone health. If you were getting your calcium as a baby, you probably won't need it afterwards, because your bones act as a calcium storage. Of course, in older ages, there is always a possibility of osteoporosis (mostly in women). In that case, you need calcium again. But what do I know - I'm some random guy from the internet that believes his shitty professors. Let me go change the wikipedia article about calcium now. :B
Comment has been collapsed.
You need to offer at least one relevant research/document/journal article to back up the "fact" you list on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not what it used to be 10 years ago.
Also, your bone is not a "calcium storage". Calcium is one materials constructing and providing the "hardness" of your bones. If you don't consume sufficient amount of calcium over a long period of time, your body has no other sources and has to extract calcium from your bones to compensate. That is one of the main causes of osteoporosis. The fact that something was told by your professors doesn't mean it is always true. Your professors' information maybe outdated, much like how many professors now still teach that the tongue has different regions for different tastes.
Comment has been collapsed.
Did I say anything different? That's why I said you need to get calcium when young (to build strong and healthy bones) and when old (to prevent osteoporosis). Where do we disagree? About articles, search science direct.
Comment has been collapsed.
We disagree about how you said that bones are calcium storage. Bones are not calcium storage. Your body extract calcium from bones as a last resort to maintain your blood calcium level, which destroy the bones. Saying bones store calcium for later use is like saying trees are wood storage: you take the wood, you kill the tree.
Comment has been collapsed.
Do you know how much calcium do your bones have? :B Taking calcium from the bones is like taking a grain of sand from a whole beach. So, your example isn't the best. :B It's not a last resort. It's actually something that our body does very often. o.O If it was a last resort and it would immediately destroy the bones, then we would all need to suck milk everyday. xD If you would completely avoid taking calcium (which is something very hard to happen), then it would take a lot of time to develop osteoporosis. But as I said before, if you take enough calcium when you're very young and when you're old, you'll be fine (depending on the diet you follow). ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
As I stated above, it doesn't immediately destroy your bones, but it will over a long period of time. And no, I didn't say that you need to drink milk, as there are various other sources of calcium in a daily diet. And bones do get rebuilt if there is enough calcium for your body to recover.
However, I have never read in any document saying that your body extracts calcium in bones "very often". It will do so "as a last resort", only when your calcium intake is insufficient, which only occur rarely if you actively avoid eating calcium food or if you absorb a large amount of heavy metals that suppress the absorption of calcium.
Prolong insufficient calcium intake may cause lower bone mass, bone fractures or early osteoporosis in younger age.
But what do I know. I don't even work in any medical field. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Where do we disagree? We're just saying the same things over and over again. :B We only disagree in the "very often" or "last resort"? :B Still, we are actually saying the same thing even in that topic, because you're saying "last resort" thinking that it's actually impossible for someone to totally avoid calcium, but I'm saying "very often" thinking of people that don't actively consume calcium. I wouldn't say that for people that consume a lot of calcium every day. We actually agree in everything. xD But I don't belong in the medical field. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
I have read (actually, translated) a lot of documents on trace minerals, and Calcium is definitely necessary on a daily basis. I don't know if you are a food technologist or not, I believe the researches and documents over a single person's idea :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Read my comment above. :P It's not my idea, it's a fact.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's interesting, because I have food technologist in my family and I've just asked her - she told me that calcium is necessary. Drinking milk - not, but that's rather obvious, there are other sources of calcium. But I know the cases where people who are after the same school and have the same profession are arguing about "facts", so... It's all I could say in this particular topic.
Comment has been collapsed.
Calcium is necessary when very young and very old. Bones are a calcium storage. You don't need more calcium as long as your bones are healthy. Does he/she know that? :/ Don't worry, I admire people that state their opinion. ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm starting thinking that she's actually a dietologist, but nevermind. :B If your diet is high on foods and drinks that "destroy" the available calcium on your organism, then that would seem normal to me. Still, as I said above, you need to get calcium when young (to build strong and healthy bones) and when old (to prevent osteoporosis). Other than that, your bones' calcium storage is enough. But if your diet consists of high amounts of caffeine (or generally foods and drinks that "destroy" calcium), then you'll end up needing calcium even more often. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, scientists' opinions differ. But I can't be against the things that my professors taught me. :/ They talked with explanations and I also talk with explanations. It's all about your diet throughout the life. And of course, nobody is really having a diet without consuming any calcium at all - there's calcium everywhere. xD We're speaking "from a safe position". But it surely isn't needed as most people think. xD
Comment has been collapsed.
That's something totally different. :P We were talking about the idea of surviving only with potatoes. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Nooo, it would be limited to a small number of letters. xD

so? +1 is two letters. thanks is 6 letters. So your own Once you've taken a few punches and realize you're not made of glass, you don't feel alive unless you're pushing yourself as far as you can go (143 characters long) is 7100% longer than +1 and 2383% longer than thanks. Heck even your post you just posted and I now respond to is 58 characters long. if we would add signature you proposed it would mean 71% of youre post would consist of unnecessary not related text, so it would be 71% of spam ;p

I mean, it's kind of stupid. It's not AOL or MSN. Just a way for people to pretend that they're deep or funny without doing anything. It'd clog up the forums too. I'll be honest, if that happens, I wouldn't be sure if I kept coming back, seeing as there'd be so much garbage in the way thanks to the quotes.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because the potato poll option that plagues the forums isn't garbage, right? :B Anyway, thanks for stating your opinion. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, it's a poll, it's fun to see what other people chose. PLUS it's usually a maximum of one option. I've only seen 2 stupid potato polls. The rest have been proper polls, like yours. One option takes less room than 25 quotes, which may last more than one row.
Comment has been collapsed.
True, true. I agreed with his opinion before. :'( He is wise.
Comment has been collapsed.
The signature would be limited to a few words only. :/ Anyway, ok then. :'( You people break my heart. It was my first suggestion. You should be kindly accepting it. xD Nah, I'm just kidding. Thanks for stating your opinion.
Comment has been collapsed.
It could be limited into a few words and not allow links. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
and we would all have to deal with loads of topics "I clicked this link I've seen on forums and got scammed! SG is a scam site!".
Ofc now anyone can also post a scam link somewhere in forums, but one - it will not have such a wide spread before this someone gets banned and two - it will be easier to notice - someone will get notification of comment, or will see the new thread. Contrary imagining for example zelghadis going rogue, adding scamlink to my signature and bam - in a seccond 40430 scamlinks appear without nootification all over the website under all my comments ;p
Comment has been collapsed.
I love the idea itself, but as mentioned before it would not be sustainable at all ^_^
You could try linking an image to the quote under every post if you wish
Comment has been collapsed.
My opinion on signatures is that they should only be used for useful information and/or links.
Given that you ask for it in order to use it for a quote (which even is in my opinion not a very good one) my answer to your poll is no.
For a lot of people (like me) your quote would just be a waste of time reading it and depending on how many characters they would allow you to use, it would be getting very cluttered if everyone or most people had a signature.
If you are really that desparate for a signature, put your thing into a textfile or something similar and add it manually to each of your postings...but one c&p might be to much work for you....it's much easier to force everyone else to read so much garbage in signatures.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it's an awesome quote. ;P I'm not desperate for a signature, but every forum has a signature, so I thought they could add the option here too.
Comment has been collapsed.
Argh, you are right. :O Why haven't I think of this? :( I would have got so many yes votes. :(
Comment has been collapsed.
I am not convinced about the idea, as others said.
You say Lady Gaga, I say ayy lmao
You say Miley Cyrus, I say ayy lmao
You say T-Pain, I say ayy lmao
You say Eminem, I say ayy lmao
You say Jonas Brother, I say ayy lmao
92% of teens have turned to western degeneracy. If you are part of the 8% that still upholds the path of ayy lmao, copy and paste this to your signature. DON'T LET THE SPIRIT OF AYY LMAO DIE!!!!!

I think (but I'm not 100% sure) there was some underground band with that name which was attempting to recreate the Musica universalis. I personally find them and their music (which sounds like vaporwave) really pretentious.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe you can make a seperate extension for your browser, like chrome or Firefox, which adds a signature under all your posts. Anyone else who likes to see the signatures may also install it.
This will not affect others who choose not to install the extension.

Hmmm, another smart idea. ;) Thanks for stating your opinion.

I can understand the first ones, but why remove the comments from the giveaways? I like to hear a thanks from time to time. :'(
Comment has been collapsed.
I dislike all the gifs and pictures on the giveaways, I also do not like the way they notification place for the comments work, at least give me a way to disable comments or a way to choose what notifications to get. Also I did not mean spams but polls, half of the times the polls are just spamming and useless. Nice polls though are good :P
Comment has been collapsed.
I always see crappy polls somewhat like that:
What do you think about this topic?
1) Potato
2) Sack of potatoes
3) Potato plantation

God, I miss being young and feeling like I could sum up the whole of my existence in song and movie quotes. It was a simpler time.

Way back when I was active on some forums about 5 years ago I've added userbars to my signature. Music band userbars for example. Not sure what was the point but I liked to show off what bands I like even if it was unrelated to the topic/post. Sometimes i was reading informative and funny stuff from signatures. So I think they are a cool addition but it's not suitable for this forum.

Heyo. In many internet forums, there's an option to add a signature below your comments (a quote, something you usually say, etc.). Why not here too? I usually use this quote on forums: "Once you've taken a few punches and realize you're not made of glass, you don't feel alive unless you're pushing yourself as far as you can go" (Green Street Hooligans movie quote), so I would love to be able to use a signature here too. What do you guys and girls think? Is this a mindless suggestion or a great idea?
