If it's an in-game screenshot, the most obvious answer would be not properly flagging it as adult content, where necessary.
Of course, that's assuming a rational basis for such action. Really, it's always surprise enough hearing about Steam moderation even existing (there's certainly enough evidence suggesting the contrary), but when such happens it seems to exclusively involve them being referenced in a deeply negative context- and a rather familiar one, at that. Based off those reports, I've just come to the assumption that it's effectively an extension of the nonsensical, arbitrary management that is Steam Support. Certainly, the indicated indefinite ban in this instance isn't encouraging an alternative opinion.

Anyway, content matters. There are some games you shouldn't post from because they have explicit content, though some people do. If reported for one of those, you sure as heck will be hit hard with a ban hammer.
Would I be correct in assuming you posted a screenshot from the games with the damn censor rabbit?

That 1969 date is definitely an error...
I'd have to see the screenshot - if it violates the ToS then it stands, regardless of whether others didn't get banned for it or not. Maybe you just were the lucky first!

Mine can't be viewed anymore but here is one from someone else. You can find more different others from the Community Screenshot and Artworks.

Okay, so potentially offensive. That others haven't gotten hit with it just means they didn't get reported yet.
Still, not so bad that you should get a ban with an unspecified end date.

I wouldn't say never, unless you somehow have access to Valve's data. Sadly it is so subjective, as their terms say "inappropriate or offensive content... or anything else not safe for work", which could mean whatever they want. Bikinis can be offensive to some, or even a low cut dress...
Regardless, you may want to remove, or at least rework, your thread because they may get you again for "Openly argue with a moderator" or "No Backseat Moderating" and have something worse happen to your account.

Ohohoho, you should see this Review I did then.
I actually got the Moderator kicked out of the Forum and got Unbanned from the Forum.

I'll delete the Thread for now but I'll keep a backup on a Notepad.

He got removed from Moderating that particular Forums and Majority of users who were Ban by him in that Forum got Unban.
I had to check his Profile again and it seems I don't see his Steam Dev badge anymore.
That was not on me. He still had a Dev Badge last time.

Yeah.... I mean.... as much as I love VNs and as much as I hate how nearly all of them sexualize young (or young-looking) girls... this is really nothing for a VN, and there's far worse on steam. I'd ask how old this character is supposed to be, but on the other hand it DOES look like she's wearing a bathing suit top, not a standard bra.
Regardless, I do agree with you that this is more than a little much. If posting a screenshot of a game is a bannable offense bc of explicit content within the game, then why is that game on steam?
The exception is that if you had installed an explicit patch from offsite.
Man, I just, I don't know. This seems fishy. Maybe try to talk to an actual person (tall order) about this from steam support.

I didn't know that's how they set it up - to set the clock backward instead of forward. I would think they'd set a ban to last until 2035 or some shit.

This happened to me a while ago. It will last in 2-3 days i think.

WoW get a permaban for nothing... (set old date AKA never expire)
I have a lot of SS of The Witcher 3 (boobs, ass, naked body, blood, gore, etc) at least that forum is more mature and not moderated by a child (nobody moderate now that forum :3)

JAJAJ thread delete in steam forum, I have reply supporting you and now is dead :P

LOL, How funny...
The image is not even sexualized...
you get a free ban, a perma ban, because the date set as old never can expire
Look at this - screen of 2 young lady in lewd way- repeat every 5 ss
maybe you get a free ban from the forum and maybe me too
I do not think they have the guts to respond in a serious and mature way.

that was my msg being ironic and sarcastic.

Konrads6 was unfairly banned from steamgifts a while back.

They haven't been doing a very good job then considering the screenshots from games like VoiceActress are full of hentai porn.

As with many online communities/forums, getting a ban is usually the result of being reported. I think it's because mods/devs can't and probably also don't want to go through an entire community of screenshots and hand out bans/delete all of them, but they can't ignore a report because their asses are on the line of someone complains to Valve about moderators not doing their jobs.
In other words; somebody probably just dislikes you and therefore reported you rather than the dozen other users that they could have reported. Heck, might even be someone on your friend list who got pissy about your screenshot in their activity. Who knows.

I got banned multiple times for a short amount of time in Video games ,but i mostly did screenshot it and got unbanned and the mod got suspended .
And to your szenario
2Possible Szenarios
-> Dev did flag your Screenshot
-> Community or hatred people did report it .
Resolutions? Contact Dev or Steam support .

If the game contains bannable graphics, why don't they ban the game instead of banning people who bought it from them? Valve logic :x

We are talking about the company which did not do anything about a game called Suicide Simulator and still does not do anything about CSM's blatantly homophobic meme games. Heck, House Party, an actual known porn game is on Steam for over 6 months now and despite the entire internet knowing about it, Valve is the only place left where the news of this still didn't reach them.
If anything, Valve is the place where they know the least about what is on Steam. They lost control over their own store long, long ago, and only bother to fix the things that reach national media.

A friend of mine got a ~weeklong community ban because uploaded a screenshot from a VN where there was written the word "penis". Actual ingame text that's fine by being in the game, but in the community hub it's a suspension-worthy offense :D

I really don't know, haven't had my share wit hthe community bans. The affected user is a 40-something mother who loves visual novels, horror games and time HOGs, and based on how upset she was, it was the first time. It's not a flaming kid-situation

Hasn't happened to me on Steam, but I recently got banned from an app to watch Anime on my phone because I posted a single comment complaining about the forced-update feature that just had been implemented. It wasn't a disrespect full or offensive comment either. Guess now I also know why the app got an forced auto-update feature.

Mhm, for a screenshot that was from a standard scene in the game - nothing bad in it (nudity/brutality, even though the game has both), still got banned ... and got three artworks removed from a different game, no idea why, they were mine, of game game characters, not lewd or anything.

Yes, on the Takedown: Red Sabre and DCS Steam forums and it was totally worth it.

So here is the Story. I uploaded a Screenshot. It's a Screenshot of the game content itself. It gets Red Flag. I look at the Community Screenshot Forum and Lo and Behold. I can see other Screenshots similar to mine and they did not receive the Red Flag.
And then I got this.
https://imgur.com/a/0VMWI
"Your account will be unable to upload user generated content on Steam until 31 Dec, 1969 @ 4:00pm."
Anyone can help explain to me WTF is going on?
Edit: The game is called Omega Quintet and there are other Screenshots Similar to mine but they never receive the Red Flag.
Update: I got my Status and Screenshot restored by Customer Support. They try to brush it off as their "Mistake" by one of their "Staff Members"
