Cryostasis is in 75% sale and I am really thinking about it. Someone here played it? Is it good?

Edit: totally worth it!

Amazing game, great plot, really REALLY slow paced, so don't expect a COD out of this FPS.

It's definitely not a game that's designed to be rushed, so if that's your cup of tea, go for it.

It is definitelly my cup of tea. I love atmospheric games with good story :)

Great!! Just make sure you're not running on an ancient computer, the game can take a big hit to it, as it's not very well optimized (i remember trying to play it on a GTS250 and suffering greately)

I got it free years ago with my GTX480. I think I expected too much out of it and just ended up hating it. Gave it a handful of hours but could never get into it.

Hm now I'm conflicted. This game or metro 2033, hmmm. Any input from anyone who's played either?

Definitely Metro 2033, no shred of doubt.

I like how they're both survival horror games but I did hear that crysotasis was incredibly slow and horribly unoptimized. Sounds like my choice is clear.

Definitely both

I've played both. Metro is awesome, Cryostasis is shit.

Metro: Nice fast enemies, good story pacing, decent controls.

Cryostasis: Horrible mouse controls, boring enemies, very slow paced story.

Metro - decent optimization, great graphics - a game is going to take full advantage of High-end machines.
Cryostasis - abysmal optimization, mediocre graphics (it doesn't even look all that great as for 2008) - a game requires high-end machine... and is not going to take advantage of it - I say, avoid... if devs and publisher didn't bother to support it and solve its problems - you shouldn't bother buying it, either.

Graphics aren't the sole reason to buy a game. I ran Cryostasis at 30fps maxed on a 8800GT, there are some times when the game skips frames but it was mostly unnoticeable, and Cryostasis had some outstanding water and ice effects. Metro and Cryostasis are both great games. I would go for Cryostasis if you are into old school survival games, it is slow, but it contributes to entire look and feel of the game, everything feels, looks and sounds solid, heavy and real. The story and atmosphere is very clearly the focus of Cryostasis, and it's execution of both is absolutely flawless. I found Cryostasis more memorable than Metro, however I enjoyed both for the entire duration of my playthroughs with them.

Metro 2033 is great. Atmosphere, graphics (especially light/particle effects). Story is ok, gets better if you really pay attention and go for the second ending.

Some original ideas in there, had good visuals at the time and the setting is interesting at first but that's about it. Mediocre Horror, clunky combat, repetitious rooms and environment, stability issues. Level design is poor and puzzles are so easy there isn't any reason for them to be there. Still, the plot might be enough to keep you going, except it is paced REALLY slow. So consider this, then the price and I would recommend it to any person who likes FPS horror.

Metro wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Starts out nice, and then the plot just gets confusing and kinda rushed. Plus, it's horribly difficult to render Metro properly. I had this weird issue when I had lags and tearing each time I checked (turned around to face) a wall (instead of a long corridor full of ennemies, that was fine...). So it's not very well optimized and I think promised too much.

I think that is a problem on your end, I've never had a problem with it. And the story is pretty easy to understand. It is based off of a book.

Yea, Metro 2033 isn't optimized very good. It took me forever set video settings correctly.

i don't have a good computer at all, and I had no problems setting it up, and running it. Havent played through the whole thing yet, but everything ran fine so far. So I found it was pretty well optimized, maybe it just depends on different hardware or something.

Didn't have a single problem with Metro 2033 when it comes to optimization. When it comes to the story, it is simple one, there are not "twists" that might confuse you.

They say Cryostasis has a bad optimisation so frame rate drops happening even on high-end PCs.

The game is great but it's the most poorly optimized game I've ever played. The tech is so broken that it's just insane.

It's a shame because the story, atmosphere and gameplay are fantastic.

If you value an excellent story and atmosphere over optimized gameplay, get it.
If good gameplay and optimized performance is paramount to you, don't.

It's a diamond in the rough.
