This, but I'll craft a badge and see what happens.
One sec.

Yeah that yielded a 'Mysterious Card 8' instead of a coupon.
Therewith, the Summer Sale will start June 16th.

Wait, how'd you know it's gonna be in June 16th ?

They did this one week in advance of the sale two times before now (in the short history of trading cards and sales).
Though June 17th would be more like it then.

Summer Sale incoming in a month.10 cards = special unnecessary money-stealing badge.

There's no way my wallet can be prepared for this. It's already whimpering.

Every 10 levels increases your drop rate for booster packs. I think every 5th level or so increases the size of your friends list. Not that the friends list size actually needs expanding for most people.

Hm, on winter sale we were given an item for every globe badge craft. Interesting, would it be at this time?

Nice crafting time http://steamcommunity.com/my/gamecards/303700/

Damn, people already put them for 30 cents. Stupid morons, don't they know those crafting idiots would buy them for $1 each?
Time for more waiting game to see if their price will rise in first day of sale like in winter, or should I just sell all those cards.
Comment has been collapsed.
Unless they add 'craft X numbers of badges' perks (which I highly doubt) this is all you'll be getting extra. So doing it now, during or even after the sale.. it shouldn't really matter.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thing is, most badges would sell for more than those 20 cents you can get now from mystery cards.
So if you want to do both, I would sell normal-cards, wait for last day, buy cards for 10 cents.
Unless you're lucky and get foils with every craft, then you might want to risk it :) .

It's alright, it's alright, it's aaaaaalright. Gaben moves a mysterious badge.

People talk about cards being worth more when the sale hits. Would it be a good idea to invest in the cards on the market now?
Comment has been collapsed.
Event cards are weird. Last summer sale's cards were more valuable when they weren't revealed. Their price dropped drastically after a few days, they never went up after being revealed. Only time they went up was on the last day, but only the foils.
During the winter sale, I thought it would be a good idea to sell the cards before they were revealed. This time it was the opposite, the cards' value went way up after being revealed. I think it was mostly due to the item drops for different games when crafting a holiday badge, that kept the card value up during the whole sale.
So it's really hit or miss.

Hmm yeah. I mean, I have about 20 dollars worth sitting in my wallet, and it'd be a good way to double it, I guess. I think the items being offered or not will make the difference. Knowing they did it in the last winter sale, I think I might take the gamble.

"Last summer sale's cards were more valuable when they weren't revealed."
It's because cards back then worth much more than now, so spending 1€ for a Mystery cards was still cheaper than crafting a badge. As far as I remember, they reached their peak at the first hours of day 1 when cards were sold for 1,5-2€, but the Steam servers were overloaded and a lot of people couldn't list their stuff, so probably that's the reason they went up so high.

No, no. Summer event cards price went down when people seen how miserable it was - spend money to get level 5 badge. Nobody needed that.
Winter event was different, as crafting badge was another "Valve Casino", known from TF2, D2 or CSGO. With every spin of the crafted cards, you had chance to get ultra-rare reindeer head for TF2 or something for DOTA2. Or bunch of other much less valuable stuff in other F2P games. So, with one totally lucky spin you could get $5000, maybe even more (like that pink Dota 2 courier for $40000).
And you could get 2000 levels with it, something hi-level dudes love.
If SS14 will be WS13-remake, we're looking at quick rise of card prices in first day, as those hi-levels and casino-addicts will rush for cards, but in first 24 hours there won't be that many of them - little supply and high demand.

"Summer event cards price went down when people seen how miserable it was - spend money to get level 5 badge. Nobody needed that."
Are you sure about that? There was a great demand for Getaway cards, even though crafting the badge never gave you anything valuable. The price went down because the supply was insanely high, not because there was no demand for them.
To be honest, the only difference I see between the two sales is the price of the unrevealed Mysterious cards. Other than that, it's almost exactly the same story: cards starting from 1-2€ -> price drops to 0,70-0,80€ really fast -> slowly losing value -> stops at 0,15-0,20€.

On July 11th, Prison Archtect Summer Card (no time to check all, but they probably all worked in same way) median price was €0.89. On 12th, 0.38. On 13th, 0.23. On 14th, 0.18, falling down and down with each passing day, outside of July 23th, when it rose again to 18 cents.
I can't check Winter Sale cards, so from memory: pre-sale: around 20-30 cents. First day - massive jump up to 70, even 80 cents in few cases. It fall down slower, it took it few days to fall under 50 cents.
Yes, there is a demand for Summer Cards. But it's maximum 60 cards (50+10 foil) per steam account. And in Winter Cards case, we're talking about people who crafted it 1000 times, there could even be someone with 2000 level badge.

The Snow Globe cards might fell a bit slower, but they followed the same pattern. I know the infinite level was a huge factor here, but not as huge as people think. Both series had very high demand (I mean, it was mostly impossible to buy the first few listings. Sometimes you had to go to the second page if you didn't want to waste time refreshing like crazy), but even higher supply. At some point, when there are >50k+ listings of each card, I don't think it matters if some people decide to throw all their money into this thing. The price just won't go up anymore. But, on the other hand, it won't really go down either. So when cards reach that "bottom point" (0,10-0,20€), the whole level thing is not that important.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not really.
Summer cards from first day were only losing value, and quite fast (from 90 to 20 in 48 hours).
Winter cards actually rose in value in first 16 hours. And they needed few days to fall under 50 cents.
Mostly thanks to Valve Casino and TF2/DOTA2 gamblers (craft winter badge, get item scheme).

I wanted to check my market history to see how much my cards were going for, but thanks to Valve's shitty servers I can't do it right now.
I'm not sure what do you mean by "winter cards actually rose in value in first 16 hours". You mean there was a short period when their price was 10 cents higher than 1 hour ago, or they were actually worth more than their initial price?
Comment has been collapsed.
Like I wrote higher.
When Winter Cards were Mystery Cards, they sold for around 20-30 cents. But when they changed into Winter Cards and "gamblers/levelers" seen they can craft TF/DOTA2 items in nearly infinite numbers, they started to buy ALL-THE-CARDS, making them rise from those 20 cents up to 70, 80, maybe even 90 cents in first day.
And while Summer Cards price pummeled in first 48 hours from $1 to 20-30 cents, Winter Cards stayed over 50 cents for few (3? maybe even 4) days.

Last Winter I made a huge amount thanks to the pre-event cards. I sold a few for about 2€ each before the actual sale started. I then sank lower and lower from 2 to 1, 1 to 0.30.

Hell no, as you can see in this thread nearly everyone seems to think they're the only ones who're smart enough to wait since they remember last winter sale when the cards went back up in price for a short duration once they got unveiled.
What everyone seems to be forgetting is that back then it was the first time cards would expire, hence the increase in price + the fact that noone knew what to expect, this time around nearly everyone who's interested in crafting saved up tons of full sets so it seems more then likely the price won't go up like last time.
Comment has been collapsed.
I hadn't considered the expiration in the winter sale. I guess we won't know if these cards will do the same untill they are unveiled though.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, no, expiration has nearly-nothing to do with it. In first days there was "little" number of cards while "Need to spin those cards during crafting" people needed their drug.
With little supply and high demand, price rises. After first 16 hours people received first "vote-cards", which started to affect prices, as there was big income of cards on market. But still in not big enough numbers, it took it few days to drop from over 50 cents.

I wonder if those cards will disappear after the event, too.

This just appeared under the badges collection. 10 cards. Anyone seen this or know what it is? Anyone collected any of the cards yet?
