Free demo, give it a shot! If you do buy, it can get pretty grindy if you are trying to get maxed gear. Also, there is tons of DLC, which some users complain is way too much and the DLC comes up to costing nearly as much as the game. The game is great fun with friends and figuring out how to exactly set up towers is challenging!

Bloons Tower Defense 3 <333333333333 But it'll always have a special place in my heart. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to trying Sanctum and Dungeon Defenders<3

Bloons Tower Defense 5 is out, and although I don't like the new cutesy cartoon look, it is a great game.

I only really fell in love with Bloons Tower Defense 3, but I wanna get the new DSiWare version on my 3DS :3

Since Sanctum (very fun game) and DD have already been mentioned, MOBAs are a kind of tower defense that you might find interesting. DOTA, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth...that sort of thing. They'd be more like tower defense meets rpg/strategy I guess.

I felt the same way about LoL, but then I took an arrow to the kne...actually it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Very polished and straightforward with quick matches, so I found it addictive fairly quickly. :)

You don't place towers in Orcs Must Die! (they're traps), you can win a map in DD by simply owning mobs with your weapon at high levels (yeah, leveling in TOWER DEFENCE). MOBA games are reverse tower defence, games where YOU try to get to the core and destroy towers. So they can be referred as a KIND of tower defence (as it was said by Bunny).

Orcs must die! and Defense Grid - the best tower defense games on Steam, IMO.

I would say Sanctum is the most unique and that it's my favorite tower defense game (that, sadly, is lacking players). Wasn't into tower defense games until I played Sanctum. Now, I own Dungeon Defenders, Plants vs. Zombies, Revenge of the Titans, and Orcs Must Die, all of which further got me into tower defense games (except plats vs. Zombies, which I have yet to play).
I wish I could say I own Defense grid as well, but I don't own it, sadly (no money for it at the moment).

I'm with you on PvZ and DG. Defense Grid was my first tower defense game, and I haven't found anything which I quite enjoy that much in that style (I didn't like Sanctum). Plants vs. Zombies has a different style but I enjoy it a lot. Had in on the PC and recently bought it on my phone, where it's even better thanks to the touch interface.

I've always loved tower defence. I own Sanctum, Orcs Must die, Defence Grid, and Dungeon Defenders to name a few...
Hint would be to buy Orcs must die, if you enjoy soloing. If you want coop go for Dungeon Defenders. Sanctum is very short lived, same with defence grid.

Really? What comes to mind instantly are the thousands of custom maps in Starcraft. Sad that there's only a handful of good ones in SC2 and with Heart of the Swarm coming up with that 'premium shop' of maps.. uhh.. I guess there would be better ones, but even then paying for a single custom map? nope.avi

All the steam ones I was going to mention are.. well said already! However, a lot of Warcraft III TD maps are amazingly fun to play. http://armorgames.com/play/12200/castaway-island-td IS a LOT of fun, its a little different from the 'normal' TD's, but I enjoyed it quite a lot.

I think Sanctum and Dungeon Defenders are pretty unique but my favourite is and will always be Defence Grid (and that sc2 td map :P). I enjoyed Plants vs Zombies and Revenge of the Titans too.

Defense Grid is the best and has a tonload of modes and maps and also dlc wich icreases it by another ton . Ive seen people with 3000 hours played on this although ive onl y invest like 5 hours so far and im nowhere near half way of this . Orcs must die is my favorite for single player third person-ish TD game with lots of humour and again the competitivity in this is getting top scores on the leaderboards . Revenge of the titans is also pretty unique it used to be hellmode untill they introduced some patches though its still hard but atleast not hell . You could also play dungeon defenders , if you like playing with other people , the thing i dont like about that game is that its very limited to build spots and it turns into a hack and slash kinda thing instead of a TD at the point where you max out everything .

I've never been much of a fan of this sort of thing, mostly because it takes a long time and most of them look the same.
Sanctum kind of changes this for me with how it's an FPS Tower Defense deal. I've only played a demo, but that's enticed me to have more.
What tower defense games are unique to you?
