I find it sad that it has gotten to the point that users of this community, such as myself, are starting to become overly cautious when entering a giveaway. I remember when I first joined Steamgifts, I joined any giveaway for the game that I really wanted, but today there are games out there that I really want that I just don't enter, because of the capability of it being a fake.

Thus my question is.. If the drawing turns out to be fake, do members who entered the drawing get any sort of compensation? If 90 people enter for a fake SSFIV: AE, for example, do they all get 40 points back when its discovered that its fake and it's removed? Or are these "trolls" getting a successful "haha, stole your points" type of satisfaction?

A long time ago, in a galaxy... sorry, in different giveaways, first comments were "thanks" and "thnx".
Nowadays the first comment is always "fake".

Sumpin like that?

Well, originally I just entered any game being offered that was available for what I wanted. Now I feel I have to actually research each gifter to judge if they're legit or not. And half the time it seems like they're NOT legit, and they're typically from Russia. (I'm not trying to jump on the bandwagon and say all Russians, but just what I've observed)

I just want to know. If I enter a fake giveaway, do I get any compensation for it, or is it entirely on the shoulders of members to judge if a gifter is legit or not, and "Do it at your own risk"?

If the giveaway is removed by cg then I belive you get your points back.

The time you speak of seems like such a long time ago.

Only if he removes it before completion. He is more concerned about banning the fakers than cancelling their giveaways before they end, so you need to be careful about what you enter.

When you suspect that the giveaway is fake, you can press the report button

The only reason you should want your points back after completion is if you win and dont get the game. Not winning a fake giveaway is exactly the same as not winning a real one.

That's not true. That's like saying you enter into the lottery and only the winner of the lottery suffers a loss. You still paid the entrance fee for a bogus lottery, so you still incur a loss regardless.

I would tend to disagree. In a legitimate giveaway you pay your points for a chance to win a game.
In a fake giveaway, you pay points for... nothing.

The result is irrelevant as you're not paying points for the game directly, only for the chance at it. In the fake scenario, you're getting nothing.
It would be little different from me up and taking 50pts from you because I feel like it. You lose points, and get nothing. No chance for any giveaway.
