I can't comment on this particular case, all I can do is recommend that you don't buy Bitdefender. While it scores well on antivirus tests, there are free alternatives that score equally well. In the latest AV-comparitives test Avira fared exactly as well as Bitdefender.

You can adjust the "Active Threat Control" setting to "permissive" to counter this. I've encountered very few false positives after this. It even warns you that higher settings will report more false positives.

Yeah, but you still have only one account and you'd have to share credentials with everyone else (which is what the OP was asking about). If that isn't a problem, then sure go for it.

That's right :)
The key is redeemed to the (one) Bitdefender account, which is connected to an email account.
Every further activation like first of 5, second of 5, ...and so on... works in that way, that you sign into your Bitdefender account through your Bitdefender application with the Password of that Bitdefender account.
So the holder of the related email account could change the password of the Bitdefender account & delete one of the activations & kick his 'friend' out of the bussiness. (The 5 activation chances are still fully available over the full time line of the valid key subscription, it won't get lost doing so.)
But the partner without the email access would bear a risk getting scammed or 'betrayed', lol.
Bitdefender itself doesn't care if there is a real bloodline family relationship or if they are just friends or collegues, though 😄

Unless you hate your friends, don't infect them with Bitdefender

This is a question better asked of the company. Assuming you are asking whether the license permits such sharing, I believe it is referring to the same location/family, so sharing it with friends would be a violation. If you are only asking about the logistics, it is probably easy to share with friends.

Funny how hardly anyone is actually answering your question but felt like they needed to weigh in with their wisdom anyway. (Actually it's not funny, but I digress).
Now I don't have Bitdefender Total Security, but I do have Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2017, and I am reasonably certain the account and the 5 device activation thing works the same way, so the answer is yes, you can "share" the license by activating on another device, however you will also have to share your account credentials to do this. One single account gets to manage all of the devices via a web interface, where local device activations can also be revoked remotely. Full granular control is retained on the respective local device, but it is even possible to override the "Autopilot" setting for local machines via web, for example. If you're comfortable with sharing this account with others, or they don't mind not having access and letting you manage for them, then there's nothing stopping you from doing it.
As for my impressions of Bitdefender Antivirus itself, I've found that I get almost zero false positives after adjusting the "Active Threat Control" setting to "permissive", anything higher will result in more false positives - but to be fair, the program warns of you this. It also currently has an issue with the Origin overlay, in that input will be locked in text fields if you bring it up in-game, but this may not be an issue for you. Either way, it can be avoided by temporarily deactivating "Active Threat Control". The UI, however, is a convoluted mess with settings all over the place and grouped illogically and often well hidden. It's a pain to navigate. The virus scanner seems to be resource efficient though and offers some additional features that may be of interest like a file shredder, file encryption and a password manager. I haven't used those though, so I can't say. I don't regret getting Bitdefender (I got it in the $15 tier in a Humble Bundle a few months ago), it's a pain to adjust but once you've got it set up it's smooth sailing for the most part. That said, it's also probably fair to say that you likely won't fare much worse with some other (free) alternative.

Hi!
I just got a question, and I cannot find the answer.. It doesn't have any link to games, sorry.
I would like to buy Bitdefender Total Security (up to 5 PC's) and I wonder if I could share the cost with friends. Is it possible to give them one of the 5 licences available? Are is it only for family PC's ? (you know, with just one account).
Thanks!
