I just wish it had public achievements and cards so I could craft a badge.

That hiding is for yourself. No game can be hidden from others/friends. And it will never be implemented 'username own now 1 more game'. 'username is playing now this', 'username has over 9000 games' those are all marketing tools. So nope, not gonna happen on steam.

Yeah, looks like that's the case. The article I linked to had it wrong and the game that disappeared from my friend's library must have just been a Steam glitch.

Like I said, anime titties. Or at least that's what people usually seem to refer to when talking about games they'd rather not have visible in their library. I don't play any anime titty games (oh OK, so I tried one, but, uh... I... you know, the story... uh... magical atmosphere...) and I'm not ashamed of any games I play, so I wouldn't know.

I don't want any of my games hidden from others, I was just interested in how the hide function works.

I don't want to hide any games and that suggestion is beside the point; I was asking about the hide function, specifically.

A question was posted on the forum about hiding achievements in Steam games for the purpose of hiding your game progress from other users (apparently because the games in question were embarrassing to the OP).
I suggested simply hiding the games and was told that it probably wouldn't work and it's just for cleaning up your library, but a couple of months ago a Steam friend of mine hid a game temporarily and I could no longer see it in this person's library. Also, the articles regarding the hiding feature made it seem like the games would essentially disappear from your library as if you had never played them: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/08/you-can-now-hide-embarrassing-games-from-your-steam-library
So I tried it out yesterday on some random games and apparently it no longer works like that. My Steam friends were able to see the hidden games in my library, along with playtime and achievements.
Have they changed this feature so you can no longer hide games from other users? Anyone have any info on this? Could you try it out?
I personally think it would be better if you couldn't hide games from other users. I'm sure a lot of people would like to hide certain games because they don't want their friends to know they're into anime titties or whatever, but for people doing giveaways that's obviously not a good thing.
