Tell me about it. Yesterday I was in my friend's car which doesn't have an AC. I nearly died.

I remember playing this very long time ago. Never finished it though, can't remember why I stopped playing. I do remember I liked the atmosphere and was surprised the game was released for free.

Should be called "Rant on bad point and clicks"...plenty of good ones out there that don't have them--except #2, there's always SOMETHING that obviously only makes sense to the game's developer.

Deponia is a good one.
he has a point, it is impossible without walk through in my opinion as well

I agree, I have fond feelings towards the point and click genre, but these days I find myself lacking the patience to work out the often counter-intuitive puzzles. I suspect this is worst in games where they've come up with puzzles separate from the actual story narrative. The Deponia series was indeed a particularly guilty party when it comes to that. The ultimate goal was always clear, but intermediary goals to get to that point were utterly opaque.

To get through Grim Fandango Remastered, I used a site called ultimate hint system which gives incremental hints and made the game much easier to enjoy for me.

That's why I like the move to include hint systems in-game. It's a shame to straight up use a walkthrough, but a little hint goes a long way.

Well, you know you are ranting about adventure game logic in adventure games, right? Deponia is not even a difficult one, what would you say about the Pendulo games? Or the old Sierra point 'n' clicks.

Hah! Then I guess you are not really fond of the TellTale games either? Although their point 'n' clicks usually had very clear instructions on what to do, only not on how to do them.
(And thanks. ^_^)

+1, especially on #1. Backtracking or long needless walking makes my soul die a little. From what I can remember only Fran Bow and The Dwarf Run ease the suffering a little.

But also on #2 and #3 make me hesitent to dive in a new point'n'click cause it'd be a slog 99.9% of the time.

if you want a point 'n' click game with really good, logical puzzles, i would highly recommend Secret Files: Tunguska. it has maybe the best combination puzzles i have ever seen. it fills your inventory really quick (which would make trial&error a pain in the ass), but most of the combination stuff you have to do is to logical, and obvious if you think about it for a second. it's really good. it is quite a while ago that i played it, but i think i got through it completely without a walkthrough.

since it's some years old, you should get it pretty cheap.

On 1, have you tried double clicking on the warp points of a screen, like doors, edges of maps, etc? Often this immediately moves the player to the location indicated. Making backtracking through multiple screens take mere seconds.

On 2, I think you're probably doing something wrong. I probably hit 10+ hour puzzle blockades in less than 1% of adventures. Make sure you pay attention to the dialogue that seems irrelevant as often that contains clues to puzzle solutions. When you are stuck (not knowing what to do for maybe 10-20 minutes) then turn the game off, do something else, and keep the situation in the back of your mind. Give it maybe a day, thinking about what exactly you need to do, what might happen if you did x, y, z. Think about this on the bus, in the park, while waking up. You'll find you'll come back to the game with a good 20 new ideas to try, and one of them will probably work.

On 3, when worst comes to worst, check out UHS hints. It has gradated hints for lots of adventure games. Allow yourself just the most subtle hint, which is often enough to work with for another hour anyway.

My experience so far with point and click games are not so great, but I played Broken Age and boy I was triggered at one point, raging all over the place not knowing what the fuck I must do. Even more I had a day off at work and guess what no fucking internet all day, why not. So I decided to finish this god damn game. While playing I had a gut feeling that there is something wrong, and of course the stupid game doesn't support offline mode that means no ACHIEVEMENTS for me. :((((

Obscure puzzles are in alot of point and click adventures. Try the old Discworld 1 and 2. o_o

I usually just tend to use a walkthrough after a certain time, there is also this http://www.uhs-hints.com/.

I haven't gotten very far yet, but I already quite enjoy Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller. It looks a little shoddy, especially this one guy with this single point in his mouth that doesn't move down while he speaks, but the story is pretty good, and the gameplay is too!
