Steam also has the upside of not supporting HB in their bullshit "keys are exhausted" shtick.

Just FYI, the game has less than 300 players, and the ones remaining only play on hardest difficulties to farm stuff. New players might or might not encounter none to play with.

Plus, latest update was on December 2023, for a live service kindy game. It's pretty dead.

Doesn't it work in single player with bots?

Yes, but don't expect them to be actually useful past Casual and Standard Difficulties
most good unlocks are tied to the highest difficulties, so good luck with that

That's what I was afraid of, they never seem to manage to strike the right balance :(

As someone who played this game for close to 70 hours, I disagree.

Considering the game is a 3-player co-op, as in, 3 players per match, 300 players is way beyond what you need.
You can also play with bots, which perform quite okay on lower difficulties.

It was hard to find matches last time I played (a year ago or so). Oh and this game has the amazing feature that when someone leaves, no one else can join your match and you're stuck with bots. Good luck with randoms XD Also no chat, only voice.

I played in October and found plenty of players. Are you sure you had crossplay on?
Randoms are fine. You can always add randoms who then become friends and you can use Discord or Steam chat to communicate.

Also the game is straightforward, you have little to no use for chat. If you do, then make friends from randoms and chat with them in Steam or Discord, as with any other game.

Perhaps on the more easy difficulties, on the highest difficulties I often sat waiting for long times with mostly one person joining, waiting for a third to join. And when I finally found a match, more often than not one of the two randoms would leave shortly after, ruining the entire match since you simple can not win with the bots on the higher difficulties. The official discord was the only place to find any people for that. Also communication may not be necessary on the easy difficulties, but it is on the highest.

So as I said, a Discord server solves your entire problem (no dedicated players, lack of communication) in this game as it does with any other mp game.

Also this screenshot is from this evening: I waited for less than 2 minutes. I chose Standard difficulty because I haven't touched the game for months and needed to remember things first.
Check the level of the players who joined me. Do you think they got to that level by playing on Standard on repeat? :)
I cannot help but feel you were unlucky with matchmaking for some reason.

This game has cross-platform multiplayer.

Good reminder for sure!

Probably true, but is probably decent fun if you can find 1 or 2 friends that also get the game.
If the main story takes ~8 hours it could be decent fun over the weekend or something if you're into Aliens.

When they put together the ultimate, ultimate, it ain't gonna get any more ultimate, mega package - on sale - I'll think about it.

As is it's more microtransactions and less game.

This is like the third misconception people have said about the game in this relatively short thread.

The game has one DLC (additional campaign story) and everything else is unlocked as you play.

I've unlocked the majority of things ingame without spending anything more than what I paid for the base game; I need to play more to farm the rest.

Maybe the industry should try and put out the full package as a whole each time and do sequels for additional monies.

Blame IOI, not me.

I fully support game developers and those who enjoy their games.

I suppose anything with additional content that you can purchase is a meal best served on the high seas, where it belongs.

Again I categorically disagree with everything you said.

A solid game is sold with no live service and without microtransactions for 75% off
but you're accusing it of both?!
then when you're corrected, you go on a soap box about the industry?!

You're sneakily and shamelessly proposing gamers pirate an already cheap, solid game or at all?!

Your issue is clearly not with Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

You are right.

My issue isn't with Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

Just the whack-a-mole ever changing tapestry of available purchases which hope to catch grandma out at Christmas.

Vegas is great isn't it?

Wait, you mean all the other DLC except the Pathogen expansion is essentially Pay-2-Win and content is already included in the main game?

Apart from the main game and the DLC campaign, there's no payment required at all.
I don't even see an option for paying anywhere ingame for anything.

Everything is purchasable ingame with the credits you unlock simply by playing campaign missions on different difficulties. I really don't see any MTX anywhere and I've already unlocked 70% or so of everything, so shrug.

At the very least, all DLC apart from Pathogen appears to be cosmetic.

might be a touch cheaper if you have a long run of buying Choice each month. I paid $4.67 plus taxes.
