Holy crap, did not expect that!

https://www.gog.com/game/diablo

And we even get to choose wether we want to play original, or updated for modern os version.

"Travelers looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.
For those wanting something a bit more modern, Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game tuned for today’s gaming PCs, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, a host of bug fixes and high-resolution support. "

edit.
Removed "drm-free" from title so ppl don't get their hopes up lol

is it possible to unlock it with a cd key code?
the old ones were never accepted on battle.net to unlock the games to one's account

GOG to the rescue :). It's like an old game nursing home, but one of the better quality, hehe. Love it.

Doubt steam version would feature changes that gog.com team often makes to make games run on current operating systems

I doubt (IF it goes to steam) that it would appear for some time, but when it does, it will likely include the fixes. This has been the case for quite a few things.
GOG gets exclusivity for x months, then it goes into the wild. Theres a number of games that are basically just the gog version repacked.

I have quite fast phone, and once in a year I'm stuck in a bus, train or some waiting room. That's only time when I play on the phone. When I wanted to try some mobile game in home, I installed Bluestacks. My large monitor, good keyboard and mouse are not just for show, and I don't see why I would want to forget them in favour of small device with only touch and accelerometer inputs.

Does anyone know if it has widescreen support or if it's just 4:3 with big black borders?

Starting with today, GOG's version has the Hellfire expansion included

I never played the expansion and didn't know how to install it back then and later I had some problems with newer OS. This is tempting, now I only need time to play.

Well, GOG does a good job when they are making the old games compatible with the newer OS. It seems that the game is a GOG exclusive for now (no Blizzard store for now), but i would not be surprised to see it on Blizzie's store over a few months. And no, it's Acti/Blizzie's decision for those old classics to be only on GOG for now.

If I were to choose I'd buy the DRM-free version, but GOG has no local payment methods AFAIK, Blizzard instead would give me the possibility of paying in cash or with debit card.

I think I may be alone here. But this is the best Diablo IMHO. Even better than 2.

With so many ppl on earth, I doubt you are ever alone with your opinion :P

That said first one is quite bit closer to dungeon crawler than what we now consider hack n slash game, So it scratches a little different itch imo

Well the page clearly indicates DRM free:

The most voted game on the GOG.com wishlist, finally trapped in a DRM-free soulstone!

As well as:

Why buy on GOG.com?

DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.

Are you not saying DRM free because it requires battle.net for multiplayer?

Battle.net® multiplayer requires you to configure the Router and Firewall Ports, details can be found here.

The issue was with word "free" in title, because ppl brains stop working and assume they are getting free game.

LOL ok I hadn't thought about that, but I understand that "DRM-free" should be implied enough by the fact that the game is coming from GOG

One old and active SG member misread it... it's really rude to go "ppl brains stop working and assume they are getting free game". Even calling that an issue overplays it, mountain out of molehill :P

You underestimate power of word free.

And I'm far from thinking I'm free from its influence as well :P
