Hey,
Is there a real benefit in unlinking HB-Keys and adding the link into a giveaway i create vs just revealing the key and writing this into it? Seems to me that its just more work for me and the person getting it...
Yes the keylink could be added to HB from the winner but...a redeemed steam key on the HB-page is just as useless as just the key without it linked to the HB-acc right?

There's no real benefit but the fact that you can check if a gift link has been left untouched (or was used in the worst case) in case a re-roll is necessary and the key has been revealed.

There's also the part where passing just the key is against Humble's terms of service, where passing the gift link isn't.

them telling what to do with stuff you payed for is all. its not like your more protected sending a link.

Strictly speaking, they are not obliged and may not help if you ever want to get a new key instead of the old one, for example, because you think your winner was a dirty cheating scum who sold the key and pretends it was a duplicate. If it was a gift link, they pretty much invalidate the old and give you a new link without even posting any image that the previous one didn't work.
Also, they are really, REALLY in the dark when it comes to European consumer laws and try to act like as if the American one is valid for every customer, so things we may take for granted when it comes to key ownership and permissions to transfer/sell. These things are… less obvious for them. (As in, they do not care about what you think. :))

I never thought about this, and I always worry when I have to reroll a giveaway after sending the key. How do you check if a HB gift link has already been redeemed? I know how to do it on IndieGala, but not HB.

If the winner generated the key, the gift link will return an error to anyone but them. Even the gifter cannot see it any more. But if the key was never generated, it displays the usual "add your email" page instead.

it makes no sense now to put the hb-links because now you know when a winner saw his key.
unless you have a lot of giveaways to deliver and too lazy to click on each one to copy/paste. 😋
