I heard from one of my traders that steam is monitoring chat logs for people who are selling games for items. If so, should I be worried about my account getting locked, or am I good?

I don't know who told you that, but Steam doesn't give a crap as long as it doesn't result in them losing money or affect other users negatively.

They don't mind traders because, in the end, it brings them more money.

That's not fully true, you cannot trade steam KEYS directly on Steam forums. It gives a crap, I know several traders which accs were TEMPORARY banned on trading forums cause of this kind of activity.
On other hand trading gifts or any other inventory items for other inventory items are allowed and welcome

Yes, Steam monitors your logs, that's why everyone gives away their keys on Steamgifts®.

Steam's behavioral principles regarding gifts and trading can be read from this area.

Depending on the "comment content", you may be "account locked" for those reasons.
In this case, support will review the conversation and if there is no abuse or violation of Steam's terms and conditions, the lock will be removed.

I recently ran into this trouble when awarding gifts to SG winners via Steam, and it chilled my liver.
I am not in the act of trading.
I am only acting within the scope of SteamGift and Steam's functionality.ヾノ'Θ'o)(probably)
