I tend to get "sad" when a game that i think deserves to be bought and the developer deserves the money because what they do is awesome... ane well we all know that getting a game in a bundle is basically a last chance to get money out of the game... dreamfall chapters is the most reacent example, the game is newish and its predesessors are known to be some of the best graphic adventures of all time, i consider them to be that great and it makes me sad for them going out for so little... tho i will buy it happily anway because yay finally i will have it :D

Hell No! cheap games!
Yeah but i will buy them anyway
Dont really care

I feel sad for the players that supported the game at the full price. Deep discounts and bundles have made me stop wanting to buy games below 50% off.

Bundles are just a more extreme version of a steam sale; you get a steeper discount, but they are harder to predict and completely tank trading value. It would be interesting to see if sales or bundles have a larger effect on consumer purchasing decisions.

Yes, Dreamfall Chapters. It's no longer "special" any more.

No I did not but I'm glad you did! I automatically assumed it was the older Dreamfall that I already bought on Gog sometime ago.
I mean all the games in this serie hardly get discounts so I was surprised to see it in a bundle. With you being so sad I had a second look only to find out it was Dreamfall Chapters Yeahhhhh directly bought it as I was so stupid to have let past all the nice GA's with it.

Considering bundled games are pretty much the only ones I can afford to buy on my gaming budget, no, I really don't.

When Septerra Core got added to steam, it was an instabuy for me. I even added funds to wallet to buy it, day after I got a key in a random bundle I bought.

Games don't get bundled by themselves. It's a business decision the publishers of games make.
If the games are self published by the developer, then they are completely responsible for all of it.

That's not to say that some haven't regretted the decision.

for sure... but, I mean, in the other hand, they may not recognize that games is considered as "bundled" here for high discounts... this discretionary act of steamgifts to bundle games for whatever reason drastically reduces their sell and I think most devs don't recognize where that selling denial comes from.

if a game is high selling and the devs are making money hand over foot it won't be in a bundle period. If the game has sluggish sales or has stopped selling altogether, putting it in a bundle can be a way of getting it recognition once again. Most games have a life span of two weeks from release... That is the point they'll sell the most copies without a sale or something else giving it attention.

When it comes to steamgifts and trading in general I don't think those type of things effect a developers/publishers decision to place games into a bundle.

Another reason could be tax breaks.. I'm not sure how it works, but I've heard it works something like this.. The developer can put games into a charity bundle, and then claim those games as charity given at their full retail price. (again I'm not 100% certain on this but it's what I've heard)

Ultimately developers don't put successful games in bundles, they put games which have been around for a while or just aren't selling at all.

you realize the userbase on sg is less than 1% of the total users on steam in feb 2015 (125 millions)?
not even considering that probably less than 10k are active members here that spend money on steam and bundle sites, so we aren't even worth wasting 5 minutes to check what we are doing here from a dev/publisher standpoint.

Did you mean: "Do you ever get sad when a game gets bundled and your CV goes down the drain?"

isn't your CV only affected if you have a giveaway after the game is bundled? or if the baseprice of the item decreases?

too lazy to check the rules right now but every now and then my cv gets a downgrade. The biggest downgrade was when the Bioshock Triple Pack entered the bundles list. I did one (maybe two, can't remember) giveaway waaaay for it before it got bundled, and it afected my CV. So I think it shouldn't, but looks like it does.

I never looked at it from this perspective. It made me happy to see good games bundled because more people would get to play them. But... you kinda have a point. I like games regardless if they are bundled or not, sadly for some they lose their value.
I think the game will still do well since it got more exposure from Humble. And people who never heard of it will likely buy Dreamfall and maybe TLJ as well.
On a side note, Bastion was bundled too, just look at all the giveaways people are still making for this game.

A little. "It's bundled?! I could have bought it cheaper if only I waited!" < If I think about my wallet.
"It's only X months and it's already bundled? This is not a stable job" < If I think about the developer's revenue

Only when I paid full price before. I always think: "I could have waited!"
But that's fine. I bought because I wanted to and didn't want to wait. Don't get really sad.
A lot of good games get bundled. I love bundles!!!
Wish I could buy them all. And I don't think of them as bad or cheap games.

I get sad when I buy a game, just to have it bundled a few days later (especially when it's in a bundle I buy, or would buy if I didn't already have the game). xD

I got sad when Just Cause 3 got bundled. Meaning nobody will give it away for a while, which makes me even more sad :(

Logically a game would only get bundled if it's either unpopular enough that it's the better way to earn money (by heavily reducing the price and making it cheaper to obtain) and/or the developer judges that it is the better way to earn money for any other reason adjusting to people's buying threshold, get some quick publicity, etc. Either way, it's a calculated decision that was made fully intentionally and with the objective to maximize income, so I don't really see why we should feel sorry for the developers. If their game was actually worth the high price, they would never need to bundle it in the first place.
I'm not saying that all bundled games are bad (there are tons of great bundled games out there) but eventually most games reach a point where it's more profitable to bundle it to keep the sales flowing. It's all calculated marketing.

yes, especially if you buy a game for a lot and after a day or two it gets bundled for couple bucks.

No, I don't. If I really love a game, I'll buy it at full price, regardless of whether it's in a bundle or not.

Gave being bundled is actually a good thing, especially if it's an old game, but it can be a bad thing if after the bundle the developer stop supporting or developing the game.
Sometimes I just bought a game a month/few week before they got bundled but I take it positively "hey more people could actually play this game and understand why I bought it before" I think without that mentality this site (SG) won't even exist.
