I want to know two things that I honestly do not understand:

In the ad it says "It's a circus of values! And if You Already own BioShock, BioShock 2, and / or Minerva's Den on Steam, you will be incendio upgrade to the remastered version of the Respective title (s) for free after release . It's a circus of values! "

I have the Triple Pack Bioshock, i have BioShock, BioShock 2 & BioShock Infinited with Season Pass, but don't have the Minerva's Den DLC, so i have Free upgrade anyway for all BioShock?

2) This Remastered what changes?

  • I think it might be you can get Bioshock 1 Remaster, Bioshock 2 Remaster, but not Minera's Den DLC Remaster. But we shall see. No Infinite remaster for PC.
  • The remaster stuff is mostly updating it for current gen consoles, as with most remasters. However, this will have the console exclusive achievements and DLC that PC previously didn't have. Finally going for my Brass Balls again someday.

Looking forward to the Challenge Rooms for the first game. As they were originally PS3 exclusive I never got to try them and by the time they were eventually released in the Ultimate Rapture Edition I already owned everything else and had played it to death so it wasn't worth buying.

Yes, for the original game. Originally it was PS3 exclusive then it was made available for 360 as well in the Ultimate Rapture Edition. It was never available for PC though.

Well, the DLC was available in two ways on console. Buying it on PSN (I did this) or getting it in the BS1 and 2 collection for PS3 or 360. Chances are PC will find it included with the base game though.

You should get the two games, whether you'll get Minerva's Den is unclear. As for the changes read the announcemnet, that's all anyone knows until 2K/Irrational confirm more.

I have another question. I'm from germany and in germany Bioshock 1 is cut. But if I remember right, I got an uncut version of the game, when I purchased it in another online store. So if I upgrade to the remastered version will it be an upgrade of the ungut version or will it replace this version with the german one that's censored? o_O

Dead Island is not sold at all here. Bioshock on the other hand is ( Note: BS 2 nor Infinite are cut)
In both cases this was a decission of the publisher. In Dead Islands case the publisher didn't bother about selling this game for the german market, but for Bioshock, they do want to sell the game here and selling it uncut gives the biggest profits :)

Well let's hope it's the normal one. I just wanted to point out some arguments, why I don't believe there will not be a cut german version. :D

I wonder that myself, but I highly doubt that they will make a cut version for the remastered one. So I think you'll get the one like everyone else and hopefully me, who's about to buy the cut one.

They would have to test the game collection again in germany and there is no way this game would be considered as too brutal for todays standarts.
I highly doubt that they are in any way are afraid of such a "ban" and making a cut version for the german market just costs money. Be it for the developer salaries or just the lost sales, because people don't like buying cut games.

If you look at sleeping dogs, well Square was just too lazy to let it check once again by USK, so they just made the Def edition unaccessable from germany. I am still so incredibly upset about this, since I love the game truly. Bioshock franchise is one of my most favourite game series all time. If this would happen to Bioshock remaster as well.... Lets not jinx it and hope for the best.

Well it's nearly the same thing like Dead Island. SquareEnix just didn't care enough about selling the game here. They made a useless, support-missing german version of the base game and didn't even bother to check if the definitive version could be sold here.

What - in my opinion - speaks for an uncut Bioshock RE is that 2K has shown that they are willing to change their marketing strategy for their games. Bioshock 1 and Borderlands 1 both had cuts, but all the successing titles of said franchises were published as ROW here.
Bioshock Remastered will have to be checked for a sell allowance in germany and I do think that 2K's strategy is to sell the ROW version here.

Bioshock Remastered will have to be checked for a sell allowance in germany [...]

Exactly this is the point. I am afraid they don't want to use the expenses of time, work and money to let the game be checked again, like Square Enix with Sleeping Dogs, and will just not publish it for Germans...

EDIT:

Bioshock 1 and Borderlands 1 both had cuts, but all the successing titles of said franchises were published as ROW here.

That is not thanks to 2K, but to USK becoming more tolerant, as the violence used in the succeeding titles was not lowered at all (even the opposite happened at some points.)

Oh you think germans don't even get the remastered version?
I don't know. I don't think that 2K will just abandon the german market - it's still a significant one - especially for a title like Bioshock. Bioshock RE will - so I assume - have a significant overhaul, unlike Sleeping Dogs DE, which is more or less just the same base-game.

Sleeping Dogs has been treated as an "unwanted child" from the start, I wasn't too suprised that they didn't even care about the DE here. Also keep in mind that Sleeping Dogs is considered a financial failure - unlike Bioshock - and thus could have been another reason for SquareEnix to abandon the german market entirely for that game.

Sadly - it was a good game :(

I didn't say that 2K made their games less violent, what I say is that they didn't just took the road like other game companies, that just cut their games, without even trying to get the ROW version published in germany. (like valve, or SE)

How necessary the cut for Bioshock 1 was is debatable and I don't know, if 2K just made these cuts, because they were - at that point - afraid of not receiving their sell permission* or that the USK actually did consider the "ban" of the ROW-game at that point.

Edit:
Also: There is one example where the publisher tested their new version again with the intention to sell the ROW here and that was Bethesda with Fallout - New Vegas. The USK didn't complain about it and that's why the GOTY is uncut for us.
So let us hope 2K follows this example.

I apologize for another post, but I found something else that might support an uncut Bioshock 1.
In it's post above Delta mentioned a BS1/BS2 ultimate version for PS3. This version is also available in germany for playstation user.
And it's 100% uncut here. So I do believe that's a good sign for us!

I opened a thread on this, but to keep the forums clean, I'll close it now, I asked everyone there to divert the Minerva's Den infos here, if 2k confirms anything, as this post is more about this issue than my news post.

I think, from the wording of the text, they will add Minerva's Den to the base game, so whether you own Bioshock 2 or Minerva's Den, you will get Bioshock 2 Remaster that includes Minerva's Den. We'll see if that is the case.

I'd suspect it'll have updated graphics, probably steamworks for the first game which had GFWL... It'll be a major bonus because lots of people myself included needed a workaround to get Bioshock 1 to work.. I'd suspect they'll make it no longer necessary to use the work around

Also that minerva's den issue threw me off, so I said meh, and just spent the 2.50 to buy it during the sale, figure I'd rather be safe than sorry, especially since Minerva's den was removed at one point in time for a few months years ago...

My guess is the Bioshock Collection Remastered will work similarly as the sega genesis games.
For example if you buy sonic 1 you will see the "sega megadrive & genesis classic" entry in your library and sonic will be a dlc. Any other games you buy for genesis will also be a dlc afterward.
So each bioshock game(and the Minerva's den) will be a DLC entry for the Bioshock Collection Remastered.
Though I might be wrong, that is how I interpret what they are saying
