Will they succeed ?
Remember. M$'s philosophy. If you can't beat them, BUY them. So don;t be surprised if there isn;t an article soon about M$ trying to buy Valve.
Ironically, the Yankees used to do that and they won a lot of championships that way before being caught. :P

Oh, I'm sure that M$ has enough cash to make him a serious offer if they want and that he WILL take it.

I am pretty sure that games aren't the only ones that use win32. That mean that AutoCAD, Photoshop and other programs would need to go through the windows store, never gona happen. Even if it does there is still SteamOS, wait are they still developing the thing or is is dead.

We have a pair of eyes and ears, but only one mouth, to see and hear twice as much than we talk.

Sadly we also have a pair hands to publish a lot of sh*t on the Internet.

Get sued for what? You understand that Windows Is a proprietary operating system, they can lock who they choose out. It's like a dev suing Apple because they refused to host their app on the App Store.

What has that got to do with this? The whole drama to do with internet browsers was because at that point MS had a monopoly in the OS market, this is no longer true. Steam even have their own operating system now.
Blocking Steam from windows would not be an anti-competitive move, it would merely be a move to protect their own intellectual properties.

How is this news everywhere. Sweeney is a notorious shit talker and everyone has their pitchforks pointing at MS like what he said is gospel lol
MS have already said that they plan to start releasing their games on Steam.

I can live never playing a first party M$ game ever again.

Slowly, over the next 5 years, they will force-patch Windows 10 to make Steam progressively worse and more broken. They’ll never completely break it, but will continue to break it until, in five years, people are so fed up that Steam is buggy that the Windows Store seem like an ideal alternative
far more likely to make people look for an alternative to Windows 10 than Steam, especially if the popularity (and compatibility) of Linux continues to grow. some developers may be happy to accept bribes to release exclusively for a platform but I don't see many being as keen to risk it for an OS where they can't throw out the usual porting problems excuses

They can try, but I don't think it will happen. Windows store was a failure on 8, and steam has a large enough market share that I think it will be really difficult for MS to bully them on 10. Regardless, I will never put Win10 on any of my devices, nor will I purchase anything from the Windows Store. Here's hoping Vulcan can overcome and make mainstream Linux gaming a reality!

I already feel sorry for Microsoft. :T
Try to beat Android wasn't enough to learn I think.

As someone who has used both a Windows Phone and an Android, I must disagree.
Android ends up on multiple different phones from trash to treasure with different levels of bloatware in them forced by the sellers of the phone. But a decent Android install on a decent phone I find head and shoulders ahead of Windows phones.

On a "decent" phone is the key word: my 100-Euro Lumia 532 runs as fast as my bosses 600-Euro Samsung. With 1 GB of RAM, few programs opened. No lag, 3-6 days of battery time, fraction of the price. I wanna see an Android or even an iPhone to match that in this price and hardware category.

Not to mention Android phones do tend to be outdated and lacking updates in a year and a half.

Judging from the adoption rates of Windows 10, I think MS actually does have a shot at pulling this off. Especially because we all think it's a joke and impossible. From a developer standpoint, using the latest graphics technology and getting instant compatibility with a major console and PC at the same time is a pretty attractive offer. And the fact that we all think it's a joke means that we won't object as loudly to the early moves they make in this direction.
It's not a sure thing, but it's pretty obvious that if they wanted to, they could easily make a try at it.

I don't think Microsoft will do that.
And if they do, i'll just go back to 8.1.

I do believe that Microsoft is capable of doing something. Why? Well, listen.
I just registered to MS One-drive with a friend's refer for him to get more space. I added my email, and waited for a confirmation email, that didn't come. I pressed resend. I got the email a few minutes later. I pressed the "Check Emailt" button, which emptied the email's text part, and nothing happened. Then I realized, that they fucked it up, and didn't make it as it would open in a new tab. Okay, right click, open in new tab. The link is used up, not valid. Okay, ask for new confirmation email. Unexpected error in service, page went down, can't ask a confirmation email.
So yeah, they have a potenty of taking down Steam on Windows - when they fuck up Windows so hard that it can't even be started.

I don't think they would do an "open war" like that with Steam.
What their plan is:
create UWP that makes porting between PC and XB1 "a piece of cake"
make devs create games for UWP only
buy (unless Steam will not support UWP games, then you don't need to buy) even-timed exclusivity for WinStore for all AAA games.
Like it or not, in the end there will be some AAA game that "casuals" will want to play - be it new CoD or TES - and they'll move to WinStore for their gaming needs.
