Right now major brands are all pretty much the same in quality. Samsung and WD are still my favorites due to positive personal experience and toolkit bundled (Samsung SSD). Random malfuncions can happen to anybody.
If you are worried, pick a free backup software, like Macrum Reflect.
Free AV: my favorites are Avira and Avast. I periodically check here.

hey guys whats up yesterday i got a new western digital 1 TB HDD becoz my old hdd got broken and it was a Samsung 500 GB Hdd so is the western is good ??? cuz the samsung broke after 3 years :( is the western will be good ? other question what is the best free AV ?
