But regarding your confusion: In Berlin are some houses still numbered like in that picture. It's an old scheme of numbering the houses in a street and it's no longer used for new streets. But the old ones kept their scheme of numeration :)

Last time I checked the right door group had 45 giveaways and the left door group 14. Now the right door have 74 and the left 34. The left group is closing the gap!
