I attempted to refund my 2 year old purchase on the walking dead survival instinct, hoping they would accept it anyway, but they said no. :(

They won't refund it. I tried it with a game I own about 1 year and they said 'no' two times.

Steam Refund Policy is that the game must be played for less than 2 hours and purchased within the last two weeks.

I can only say that if it had been up to me I would have happily refunded you on that basis...

Well you can always just have them remove it from your library.

You can get it removed, but not refunded.

I just hoped they would accept it because it was bought way before the refund system was a thing

I thought the same thing. Especially since one of the games I wanted to refund, I -did- submit a refund ticket within two weeks of purchase... but that was years before the policy existed. So I opened another ticket pointing that out, since their policy ALSO states that "even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look".
No good. Purchases made more than a month ago can't be refunded.
Which, considering it took them THREE months to reply to my ticket... you'd think they'd be a little less concerned about timeframes.

Try to look at it from the other point of view.
And imagine: thousands of tickets coming in, asking for refunds that are clearly out of bounds. And a small support team to answer them. The more tickets asking for a refund for something years ago....the longer it takes to go through them and answer them all.

Basically it's creating longer queues for legitimate questions by asking questions you can be pretty sure are going to have no as an answer. It's not a charity after all.

If I had a store, a real one even, not an online one, and someone came to the desk to refund something he bought two years ago, I would look at him with a face that says "you can't be serious, dude."

I tried to refund another game, was shitty game, abandoned by developers, never taken care of... When I purchased it I couldnt play, when I could game was literally dead. Unfortunately, purchased it before steam refund policy changed so... I'm stuck with that shit.

Yeah I tried that too. Tried refunding a game I bought from before the return policy went into effect. Really unfair to people who have been with Steam for a long time. My original account, that my brother now controls, is ten years old. If there was a return policy back when I got started I wouldn't have half the games I currently own. I'm sure I would have wasted the money on something else though, and it's always nice when they go back and add trading cards for older games. Even if a game is horrible and I'm stuck with it, at least with the cards I can get a small amount of credit back. My return was gonna be from May-ish or something. Thought maybe they'd give me steam wallet money back. 2 years is kinda pushing it.

I guess we played two different games called The Walking Dead Survival Instinct then.. It was a decent game in my opinion and actually I've been thinking about re-playing it for quite some time now, but time is an issue and I always find something more important to do.

well, the refund system is new and some devs accepted to refund game that was bought some time ago because of the new feature, but still had to meet some restriction other than the 2 h played (on what i saw on other tread )

I have DLC that I purchased for a game that will never make it out of Beta because development has ceased. I'm not going to try nor do I expect any refunds for it.

There really haven't been many games based off of movies that have done well or were made well. Neither have there been many movies that were based off of games that have done well or were made well either. My advice is to stay away from these types of games. You're just paying for the name that is being used and in no way does it have any bearing on how good the game will actually be. Look at what a clusterf**k that Batman: Arkham Knight turned out to be and that was a successful franchise game made by a good developer.

There's no damned way I would have spent $50 on The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct to begin with - especially before the reviews on it were out. AFAIC there is no game worth that much since eventually most everything goes on sale or gets bundled these days eventually anyway.
