I don't want the game offered as I already have it, but I personally feel the new Battlefront is a dead man walking.

No Campaign.
AT-AT on Rails.
40 player limit.
No space battle.
4 Planets.
No Clone Wars Era.

DICE already fucked it up in my opinion.

This is essentially a remake of Battlefront 1. And since DICE is making it, its basically Battlefield with a Star Wars skin. I'm not sure why any of this is a surprise to you.

Battlefront didn't really have a campaign (it just had you play the maps in a certain order), 40 players is plenty, the first Battlefront didn't have space battles, there's going to be at least 12 maps to start, and I'd rather pretend the Clone Wars stuff doesn't exist anyways.

It doesn't surprise me. I expected to be let down from the beginning. However the point to continuing or rebooting a franchise is to see it improve. And I shall critique it as such.

This is a step back. So I will critique it negatively.

And even though it is DICE. This is Battlefront. Not Battlefield. I will critique it as a Battlefront game. Not Battlefield: Star Wars.

The point of continuing or rebooting a franchise is to make money, typically by making the old game similar to what currently sells. So, EA is making a Star War Battlefield game. The fact that it may actually get released at all would be a big first step. And I've always enjoyed what DICE has done with environmental damage, so that should be a nice addition to a Battlefront game. But considering how many companies have tried and completely failed to make a Battlefront game, it'll be nice to have one to play. And maybe Battlefront 2 will end up being everything Battlefront 2 was, but with shiny new graphics and a better physics engine. Honestly, there's only so many things you can do with a Battlefront game.

So we agree to disagree on the point of continuing or rebooting a franchise. I would push that the actual reasoning is one or the other depending on the developer.

However, when you sit down and play the continuation of a franchise what do you (or at least what should a consumer) expect? Improvements! The hopes my gaming community had for this game were great! That this would be everything battlefront 2 was and more! Bigger space battles, bigger land battles, a larger galaxy, battles that combine both space and land, more realistic combat! Galactic conquest but even better than ever! A new star wars campaign! Things that underfunded indie developers have pulled off in plenty of games! So why not a Triple A company?

What are we getting? Less than we ever thought possible. The bare minimum of a battlefront game. In 2015. The biggest budget failure after Destiny. And a clear sign that the Battlefront franchise by DICE will never be as good as Battlefront 2 ever was, but only as good as the newest Battlefields never were.

I want it to be amazing, but every Battlefield game has ended up a little more disappointing than the previous one. More DLC and unlocks, fewer things that can be demolished, buggy/unstable servers, DLC schedules that just fracture the playerbase, relentless nerfing of weapons until it just becomes a CoD clone.

I figured DICE would make a flashy Battlefront game, but I never expected a deep or complex one. On one hand, they're making it all from the ground up, so that would naturally put limits to how much time they'll spend making completely different worlds/maps. There should be at least 12 maps to start with, which isn't a bad number, considering they're saying some of them will be huge.

The space battles were a nice change of pace, but they never did really flesh them out properly. Dogfighting in space wasn't really any different than dogfighting on a planet, besides the background color, and once you landed on a mothership, it was just normal infantry combat, like on the planets. But the lack of Galatic Conquest is what's really going to hurt. I loved doing that, and it really extended the amount of playing time. Although, it'll be nice to play Battlefront with someone other than just bots, like I did on PS2 (other than playing split-screen with my brother).

Our only hope is that once they've put out BF and got everything made, they'll either make Battlefront 2 properly, or just add Galactic Conquest in as an expansion with some new planets, like how they did Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam.

I disagree some points.

Space battles were different in that their mechanics were different. There was no more CTF or simple unit annihilation as the easiest ways to decide the day. But instead you had to defend yourself in space while targeting the subsystems of each starship as well as taking your their escorts in other to defend your own starships. Troops could board enemy ships and prevent enemies from taking off and doing damage while also sabotaging it from the inside. Space battles were amazing in my opinion, and if DICE had improved on them, they'd have been far superior to ground combat in every way.

Also, what is the point of huge maps if they're just for 40 players? The old maps of BF2 are perfectly fine for such a small player count.

Our only hope for the battlefront franchise is not only if they choose to do it correctly after this, but also if the battlefront community is willing to give DICE a second chance after this.

I'm not even giving them a first chance to steal my money after seeing how they've degraded my beloved franchise. If they get a second chance, hopefully they'll do it right. But for their first attempt? They've shown me nothing except that Battlefront is another franchise to be buried in the past. I really want them to make an amazing battlefront game that takes everything that 2 was and improves on it. But their battlefront? Doesn't even feel as good at the original battlefront. It feel like someone promised me ArmA and gave me Call of Duty.

One point of distinction between Battlefield and Battlefront should be in the inclusion of bots, which Battlefield always lacked. 40 players plus bots should make for some nice massive battles, depending on how they do the AI.

Out of curiosity, back in the day, did you play Battlefront on a console or PC? And did you play with other people? I played on PS2 and didn't have a modem at the time, so I just played against bots, but I imagine the space battles were probably a whole lot more interesting with other people playing.
