I would like to gift a fallout 2 but its more expensive on steam and of course is with steam drm. Since this site is not affiliate with valve would it be okay to gift a much better version from GOG?

My recommendation if you don't want to get a complaint from some idiot like Zev or Yatterman that thinks since it's called SteamGifts everything must be bought from Steam, redeemable on Steam, and exclusive to Steam, would be to make it as a private giveaway and post it in the forums clearly explaining what type of key it is, where it can be redeemed, and how.

Nothing wrong with that, but technically nothing wrong with making a giveaway for a game that isn't Steam redeemable anyways, because plain and simple, it's your game to giveaway as you feel and it's our option to enter your giveaway or not. As long as you don't intentionally misrepresent it and warn people properly, no problem. I've been thinking about putting up giveaways for some games I have CDs of and mailing them to the winners.

So it is better to pull the answer out from your arse, making up your own rules, even when a mod says the site is for steam games as of now? How very insightful and knowledgeable you are! (Sarcasm, in-case this buzzes over you) I said the clue was in the name because it should point as to a hint of what the site is for. Did I say that is for every site? No. I did however say it is for this one, which is currently true.

Since you're lumping two different people as one, let me clarify something, I never did say it had to be bought from the steam store, did I? Actually neither of us stated it had to be bought on steam, only that it had to be a redeemable steam key. Many people show sales from various sites for steam keys on the forum, which is fine and dandy and even very helpful.

Also nothing wrong with it, when the site is for -steam- games. If you want to do it differently in private amongst friends, that's your business, but the public giveaways adhere to a different set of rules, not the ones the little voices in your head tell you are true.

If you're whole point of insulting people was to point out the difference of public vs private giveaways, you could have at least attempted to be civil, instead of making a general ass of yourself by learning to word things differently. Somewhere in the effect of "While these things are true for Public giveaways for private..." and so on. Or even if we were completely off the mark, wording things in a more polite manner is still achievable. It really isn't that hard. ;)

Well the purpose of the site is for games on steam. Not generally, while I do like GoG, nothing on it is redeemable on steam, and doesn't comply with the rules. (Clue is in the name, as it were :P) Now if they gave you an optional steam key, that would be another story. The reason you don't really find info to support that, is because it's implied.

That page is outdated and not entirely correct, it seems. The Witcher 2 for example, isn't on the list but redeemable on Steam.

It depends actually. Not all Witcher 2 keys are redeemable, just retail generally. If you buy it from D2D or GoG, it won't work on Steam.

If the rules say you can't do a public one, you can always create a private one and share the link on the forums (as long as you clearly say it's a GOG game, not a Steam one). Bet no one will complain about getting a free game as long as they know before entering.

It was added as an exception by popular request.

It was added because they had a buy 1 get 1 free weekend and I presume CG thought there'd be some people giiving it away.

It largely ended up being tools that were giving away their HiB promo code that was good for like 20 hours after.
