PENES!
The only one I remember is Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt, there was little variety it seems for me, the SNES on the other hand!

I had a snes
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble
Kick Off 3 – European Challenge
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
I spent more hours on one of them, then on all my steam games together. I can still play those games and have a fun.

I didn't have that many and I was very young considering you mean the NES and not the SNES like many commenters do.
So my fav was clearly Super Mario Bros. I only remember havin Jungle Book as well but it was way too hard for me at that time. :D

That's not even up to debate... Super Mario Bros. ....duuuuh!!!! STill play the PC version, maro Forever to this day.
Second favorite: The Hunt for Red October. To this day one of the best movie licensed games of all time. That's not saying much, given that movie licensed games suck donkey balls, but still awesome, nonetheless. Could never get past that sabotage stage, though. From side-scroller the game turned into a puzzle-platformer, all of a sudden and a really hard one, at that. I could never defuse all those bombs on time, so I sadly never finished the game. Played it recently on the NES emulator and...I suck at it. Couldn't get past the first stage. Guess I was better as a kid or these games just aren't meant to be played with the keyboard. Gotta by a controller.
BTW, are you sure Legend of Kage was an NES game and not a Sega Genesis? Cause I remember quite clearly it being one of the games built in the memory of my Genesis(the games which you could play without a cartridge put in). But of course, the Genesis was a versatile console that could play Nintendo games, no problem, and back then the industry wasn't full of spite and did not deny interchangeability. It still wouldn't make sense for a Sega console to come loaded with an NES game, though, but then again, my Genesis was a Chinese knock-off so why not?
