Amazon has the Steam Link on sale for $20 (60% off):
https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B016XBGWAQ

I don't recall having seen it on sale for less than $35 (30% off) before, so this should be a new record low.

If you have a Mastercard you can also get an additional $10 promotional credit that gets applied when you use it to pay. See the instructions here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/9407507-10-credit-towards-next-purchase-at-amazon-with-mastercard

note: If you have an ATM card from your bank that doubles as a Mastercard debit card it will also work.
note 2: as far as I know the promo credit will work on anything that is directly sold by Amazon

edit: Same price on the Steam Store now as well

Wow, that's a great deal. I love my Steam Link, even though I paid full price for it. ;)

Doesn't it have input lag unless you have a really good bandwith?

That's less about bandwidth than it is latency. Input is pretty minimal in terms of bandwidth (of course you still need sufficient bandwidth for the video), though if it's taking too long to get back to your PC obviously you'll notice the delay. But we're talking about a local network which, if you're on a wired connection, shouldn't be more than a couple milliseconds.

Makes sense. I just wonder how it's different from using an hdmi cable. I guess if your PC is on another story or in another room you could get good use out of it. Okay, figured it out :D

For a single PC I guess it wouldn't be too much different than running a long HDMI cable and using wireless input devices. However if you scale it up to multiple PCs you will see more of a difference. From what I understand any PC on the network can utilize it, which seems more convenient than running an HDMI cable for each of them and instead utilizing network infrastructure that's already in place.

Also, a PC that does not have HDMI (presumably older) would also possibly be able to take advantage.

Please excuse my blatant question. Does steam link work as a substitute for PC? What I mean does the pc have to be ON and running in order to this work? And the sole purpose to this is to share the screen or there's more to it?

It's basically a device that allows you to take any PC with a network connection and stream video and audio from it over your home network to a TV that has an HDMI input.

For me this means that I can have my desktop computer in one room while outputting video and sound to a TV in another room and playing games with a wireless controller or whatever.

It doesn't replace your PC, but rather acts as a relay to it. I use it to play downstairs on my big TV, sitting on the couch, with a wireless 360 controller or wireless kb/mouse. And because my home's not wired for ethernet, I use powerline adapters to get a wired connection to the Link (wifi to the Link was really quite garbage in my experience).

So basically, the game runs on your PC like usual, but the audio and video is mirrored to the Link, which also relays your control input back to the PC.

the Link, which also relays your control input back to the PC.

Any appreciable input latency with that in your experience? Just curious.

I wouldn't actually need to connect my wireless gamepad (Logitech Rumblepad 2) to the Steam Link (assuming it were supported) though since I can get a good enough signal all the way to the receiver when connected to the PC directly.

Not really. I haven't used it too extensively (Towerfall, Spelunky, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, and maybe a couple others), but it was never noticeably problematic. Roundtrip latency on a wired network, even going through powerline adapters, should be in the low single digits.

I've thought about connecting the controllers to my PC rather than the Link, but haven't actually bothered to try. I suppose that's always an option if the latency were ever noticeable.

It's a fancy rename for a very budget and simplified HTPC with a Valve logo on it. To their credit, it is cheaper than most any decent pre-made and uncustomisable HTPC solutions. Which is, admittedly, very uncharacteristic for them, in a positive way.

I'd totally buy it, but the shipping cost killed the deal.

I don't know how much shipping is without Prime because I have Prime benefits through family sharing (a.k.a. "household"), but you can get a free 30-day trial for Prime if you haven't done it before.

I've just tried it. No changes to shipping cost and too much bureaucracy for applying to Prime for a small discount on the item (too much stuff to read), but thanks for the hint anyway. :)

why is it a problem for you then? on the one hand it sounds like you dislike people who abuse these things but on the other hand i imagine you want to abuse it too. and if you dont want to abuse it i just wondered why you complain its not working anymore

lol, for me is doesn't represent a problem, however everyone should be able to snatch at least a coupon/offer, but some people take 5, 8, 10 or even more, and Amazon ended up cancelling the promo and taking away the credit for the ones who made it on time. Don't take it personal, if you abused it, it is fine for me.

What leads you to imagine that he would want to abuse it? The promotion was created so that people would use it (once), that's the point of promotions.

It's people who used it a bunch of times who lead to the promotion being suspended so I don't get what you are trying to say.

Of course that it is a problem that people abused it and now those who wanted to access this promotion can no longer do so.

steam store page states "coming soon" if it's not available to buy through steam store in your region. i suppose he has something against amazon or amazon doesn't ship steam link to his country either.
