I already paid for it in PS3, but my tv is really crappy and I can't use my mic in there so I prefer PC, I don't really wanna pay double for the same game and it isn't actually new new, just new to pc but it has been around for a while now. What do you think?

I figure it will be on sale at least 10% off. More than that, I'm not sure. But I guarantee it will be on sale to some degree. They've already sold as much at full price as they will, between 360, PS3, Juan, PS4, and PC. Heck, you can get it from GMG for more than 10% off right now.

Yeah. Nuuvem had it 50% off for preorder. Just depends if you "have" to have it in Steam or not.

And unfortunately, the only way to get a Steam copy is to buy it on Steam. But if a person just wants to play the game and doesn't care about it being on Steam, its been on sale a number of times. There's really no reason to think that the Steam version won't be on sale in the near future, unless Rockstar is just being greedy.

It's possible that Rockstar gets a larger cut from the retailers outside of Valve, so they might have an incentive to sell more copies of the non-Steam ones than the Steam ones, thus why it hasn't been on sale yet. But they have to know that withholding a sale on Steam will inherently limit their market, since there are a lot of people who won't buy games unless they're on Steam.

Yeah but I'm from Mexico and looking at the dollar rate right now it's even more expensive than the full price in mexican peso.
Like 10 dollars more expensive if you were making the conversion like a year ago.

If you're from Mexico, the best place to get it from is Brazil. We're on the same region so there's no problem activating games from Brazil in Mexico.

I'm from Brasil, and it's not worth buying anything in dollar right now. It would cost more than it does right now in my currency.

Nice hidden joke ;)
But I think you should have wrote it Xuan to keep it tematic. After all, the "x" is pronounced as a "j" in some names like Xavier or Ximena.

Xuan is a great suggestion! I've been calling it the Juan every since it was announced. Some people have tried shortening it to X1, but Comcast has had X1 for a long time now. Although, I think some people might see Xuan and try to pronounce it like its Mandarin.

probably. probably not. Try not to hope for it so you'll be silently surprised if it is and not that visibly disappointed if it isn't on sale.
On the other hand, might just be a 10% off kind of thing. IF we get lucky. There will be a price glitch that sets it at a 90% off. Buuuut the chance of that happening is very very slim.

I certainly hope so, it's the only reason I'm still waiting (or hoping to win here). It's a few years old and I think a nice 15-25% off wouldn't be too bad.

Thief and watch dogs took forever to be on sale, and even than the most that has happened so far was that watch dogs was 50% off, and thats mostly because no one was buying it after the huge disappointment from it.

i'm really hoping they would go on sale, but realistically, we would probably have to wait 5 years from now, so try to get some deal with humble bundle.

Yeah but that's ubisoft, the same ubisoft that's exploiting Assassin's Creed turning a good franchise into trash.

Comment has been collapsed.

If they turn a game series bad or not has very little impact on the sales model. That entire thing is handled by another department in the company. But you can always take a gander on how eager Rockstar has been to put their games on sale that close to launch in the past. That's the only thing that is going to give you an indication of when this game will go on sale. Take into account that it is a game that is currently selling very well, which gives them less of a reason to put it on sale.

I was referring to the fact that they turned AC into a money factory instead of keeping it a good series, meaning that they care more about money than quality, so probably that's why they didn't put those in sale for a very long time..

I thought the AC games went on sale quite quick from release. And was Assassin's Creed ever such a good series? I found the first one to be pants, while the second one was quite alright, but hardly spectacular.

Honestly, I believe Rockstar has stumbled onto something big if we are standing around wondering if a port of a nearly 2 year old game will get a 15% discount during a sale.

Permalink

Rockstar didn't stumble onto anything. They poured 4 years of hard work and 250 million dollars into making a fantastic game, and as a result it's worth much more than any average shooter that you may hesitate to plunk down $60 for.

I don't use euros, the mexican price is the same as any other AAA game and cheaper than buying US dollars, so 15% will actually make a difference for me. And I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.

Maybe, but you better wait winter sale. Then there will be a possibility of 15-25% discount.

Rockstar isn't in a hurry about that, they already sold 52 milion copies in total. They will probably discount it in the future, but not soon.

Because its literally one of the biggest events Steam has going on every year, Rockstar will want it featured as a front page game on one of the days. They'd be foolish not to as people WANT to spend during Summer and Winter sale. I wouldnt expect anything more than 15% though. If I was to bet, I'd say 10%. Winter will be the first time there's a "significant" discount and I would guess that will be around 20-25%.

Too tell truth, SteamSpy suggests only 200k people bought it in last month - not a bad score, but R* ,might want to be on bigger offensive, especially if they plan those single-player DLCs - nothing that makes people want to NOT buy game than knowledge there are DLCs incoming.
Might be smart to make bigger sale, then announce those DLCs :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Only? 200K in a month is massive numbers. There's no reason to cut it larger yet. A minimal discount to get it as a daily deal is likely all thats going to be done. Its not moved from Steam's top sellers since it became available for pre-order in January. There's no need to spike it now, as its still selling great. Winter is the best opportunity for something significant, but even there it wont be drastic.

10-15% summer.
20-25% at winter.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, compared to first month growth by over a million, it's "only" 200k. And on the other hand Skyrim also rose by 200k people in last 2-3 weeks (but this one might be a bit unreliable as it had free weekend over a month ago, so it might screw numbers a bit - you can notice big mountain a month ago, then big drop until it again started to rise).

And then, if R* wants to sell their microtransactions, they need more players to own base-game, don't they?

So while I also don't believe in anything drastic, I wouldn't be surprised to see something bigger than 15%.

I think its to soon for Rockstar to be generous.in the other hand I think they now at least 10% off is fair for both sides and it doesent hurt them.so in my opinion 15% discount got a good chance to make us happy

Doesnt matter. Summer sale is a time when people are encouraged to spend money on the platform. Some dont buy anything unless its summer or winter sale. Last summer, Day-Z was the game that had this same argument. It got 15% on the first day.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

DayZ cost 23€ before summer sale they increased price to 27-28€, and put that 15% offer which cost you 23€ on sale again....just to fool ppl, not gonna happen with GTA V, but I still think GTA V won't go on sale.

Same happened on Winter Sale, or just in Winter sale then..

The argument you're trying to make is irrelevant. The bottom line is the top seller on Steam for months (Day-Z) got an insignificant discount on an event sale after debut. GTA V is in the same position. It doesnt matter at all how much it cost or the other nonsense surrounding it (Day-Z). It was a top selling game from the time it debuted straight through summer sale.

We're arguing about a potential savings of around $6 from $60 happening or not lol. These developers know what these sales are. They're the most crowded and crazy times on Steam. Just being a frontpage deal is worth a 10% discount.

Permalink

well im not that sure to bet for it :/ But ppl seeing GTA V with even a little 10% discount on front page gonna make Rockstar a lot of money.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thats the entire point Im trying to make. You know how these sales are. More likely than not they cut it 10-15% just to get it on the front page and in the encore sale.

I dont think it will have a discount outside of that though. It wont be one of those where you have to decide to wait to see if it hits a Daily Deal. It will be a Daily Deal or it wont be.

It's rarer to see games that aren't primarily steam games to go on sale this close to release, Witcher 3 is in a similar situation because it's primarily a gog game. It doesn't mean it can't happen but it's very unlikely this year.
