What do you mean??
Like.. It's gonna be gone for the store, what price the traders will take is impossible to say?
If you gift it on the site and it gets removed you loose that CV. (Yes that's broken, fix CG.)

Im well aware of that, I said it'll be removed but what the future price would be if you stack up for trading, it's sort of impossible to predict.

Given how many people have advance notice and will have stockpiled for just this reason, I doubt you'll make a lot of profit within the next year or two.

Indeed, the dev probably made more money the last days on sales than what he did during the whole time the game been on Steam ;)

I made giveaways for Prey and 007 Legends after it was removed and still got the CV

Really? I still have a ticket open since umm ~3 months back about loosing 50$ CV because I gave away 5x copies of Kings Quest Chapter 1 that was later removed/f2p and dev didn't compensate previous buyers with nothing, not even a coupon for the full chapter afaik.

That was because the value of chapter 1 was changed to "free", rather than the game getting removed outright. This has happened with a couple of games going free.

Am I totally screwed in this case or can I have some magic luck that CG could fix it manually? O.o
Not that I care anymore, still kinda meh.

Free is just "retail price $0". As with any retail price, SG only references the current listing for it.
With removed games, the retail price hasn't actually changed, it's just no longer able to be referenced.
Even there, according to SG staff, they only manually set the price when they're certain the game will not ever reappear on Steam [which is why games like Mafia 2 remained at $0, because there was the expectation (which has since been fulfilled) that it would return to Steam].
Meanwhile, I wonder if we'll ever give up on the promised Two Brothers rerelease..the developers refuse to even comment on that anymore. -.-; (See Delta's comment below)

Flip side, there are plenty of games that report a retail price of $0 that don't actually have a retail price of $0, and aren't removed [eg, Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey], so there's definitely a weird quirk in how SG staff approaches those games.

As far as the games that went f2p- whether you bought them for yourself [as I have many, unfortunately], or put them up for giveaway, you're getting screwed by the developer either way- and not by SG.

It's not really SG's responsibility to fix the developer's unwillingness to provide refunds for their change in approach, in the first place.

Generally, any game that still has an active store page but which is purchase disabled gets a value of 0 on SG.

Hmm... that explains why my GA for the Sims Medieval from 3 years ago now sits at a big fat zero points. Was wondering about the inconsistencies in regard to removed games, that's good to know.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention!
I've been checking up on the progress every so often, and never stumbled across that blog, so I definitely stand corrected on my earlier assertion. That's definitely encouraging- I appreciate the heads up. ^.^

Depends when, if it gets readded etc. There are plenty of copies being bought, since the removal was announced, so the price will take long to rise.

Probably less than 10$. The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian was in the same position where people knew it was gonna get removed and it only sits at about 8$ after all this time.

guessing:
in a year from now 7$ - 10$, in two years 15 - 30$ ... the game itself is apparently good and famous enough

unless:
it gets re-listed on steam ... which is kinda likely as the game should probably be worth re-listing

as reference:
https://www.g2a.com/the-chronicles-of-narnia-prince-caspian-steam-cd-key-global.html
^ this crap got removed about a year ago and sells already for 3 - 6 times the price of the its lowest sale

https://www.g2a.com/virtua-tennis-4-steam-cd-key-global.html
^ also this roughly gone from the steam store since a year or so

Bit pricey for a Narnia key from an unauthorised seller. Funstock Digital still has copies and I've seen it hit 75% off a few times which is less than the G2A price by a decent margin, and it might've gone even cheaper than that.

Except, when it goes on sale on Funstock Digital the price on G2A also drops and is cheaper than Funstock.

Would it be better to buy key copies or gift copies of the game? I'm almost certain that Gift copies usually sell for more as time goes on, unless of course with a few exceptions. However, I was wondering because I could buy a whole bunch of either key or gift

You're right about gift copies selling for more. They're also safer. If something were to happen to the key (it getting leaked somehow or a key gen generating it or something like that) then there would be no way for you to know until it's too late, but with a gift copy, well, you'll always know if it works or not.

If you want to know how much traders will ask after it'll be removed from sale, well, only time will tell, but it surely won't be cheap.
Traders with rare copies of removed games might get greedy; Mafia 1, for example, goes for hundreds of keys (at $2 per key, that's a lot).

The gane will be gone by then. If you want a copy, best to buy one from Steam now since it will be delisted after the sale ends.

Not much. Only a handful of peeps collect removed games and all those who currently collect them has a copy and maybe a few more. Unless you are willing to wait years, I wouldnt bother.

It'll be cheap since many people knew about the removal and it was put on a 85% discount on three sites, including Steam. (Which, by the way, will push it to bundled status on this site, so if someone bought it at Indiegala or HB and didn't make a giveaway up to yesterday, they can kiss their CV goodbye.)
Probably will go around for 2-3 USD initially and stay there for a while.

Don't you think that "might push" would be more accurate here? You even seemed to think so here -- not that anybody would expect you to go back and edit comments in other threads. :)

Might push, yes, but frankly, I'm quite sure it will pop up on that list.

Permalink

I'm quite sure many would get pissed, if it does.
Anyway, the bundled CV would be more or less equal to the sale price (for stronger currencies), so there would be no real loss.

bundled CV doesn't matter since if it gets removed from steam then your CV for that GA will drop to 0. Look at my two brothers GA for example

Paypal's exchange rate to gbp wasn't ideal but it wasn't that bad. At least it wasn't like the one time I tried to deal with euros, now that was an awful conversion.
