I don't recommend using VPNs for purchasing stuff...

This.

Many contain various security issues and/or explicit methods to intercept financial information. Unless you completely trust the source, refrain from using a VPN when transmitting personal info.

Oh, so using VPN has a lot of risks. Tsk. I was planning to use it to buy the monthly's thru paypal. Thanks for the info tho!

HTTPS is supposed to cover that. If you couldn't use a VPN "when transmitting personal info", there would be really no point in ever buying a VPN subscription (although personally it's true that I prefer Tor, which is free).
However, the vendor might detect you're using a VPN and then punish you somehow. That would be the main risk IMO.

I see, hmm, thanks for the info. Might as well just do this normally then.

Additionally if there is an issue with the order/keys down the line and it comes out you used a VPN for the purchase they have no obligation to offer further support and could use it as grounds to block the account entirely. So if you do go ahead with purchasing through a VPN I'd suggest using an alternate account to do it.

  1. It is very secure as long as you use HTTPS, which is mandatory on most websites nowadays.
  2. You can easily set up a pay-as-you-go VPN server by yourself, using DigitalOcean, Linode, AWS etc. Here's a guide for anyone that may be interested. Posting referral links here is against the rule of SG

HTTPS
AFAIK, man-in-the-middle attack is not possible without a valid certificate (with the same Subject Name and issued by a trusted CA).

What's that? I don't get your point.

As the others already said, you shouldn't trust most VPN's available with such sensitive data. Instead, you could ask someone trustworthy, that you know and who's from a place like Central Europe, to buy you the particular bundle as a gift maybe?

I unfortunately have a very small circle of friends so doing such is a bit hard. thanks for the suggestion tho.

Yeah unless you have a payment source from the VPN you used you still may be denied purchase if they check payment info. Also if for some reason they do catch on to you using VPN they can and most likely will suspend the account and you will lose access to it.

Why would you if you are SEA region would you not pay more for said game using other currency? You could try trading for a row copy or a copy that is not just locked to SEA as I find more and more games very locks so much that ROW is slowly dying.

I see, I mostly just wish to use it for the monthly where some of the hidden games sometimes become locked. Or if someone wants to trade for the main game for a game I'm having a hard time looking for.

You could try Group buys on Steam they do bundle splits of monthly and other bundles.

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/groupbuys

You could make another account using VPN for the monthly but as I said I am not sure how payment would work or if they even check that stuff.

The other thing you can do is make some friends in the U.S. and see if they will buy a bundle in exchange for wallet or PP.Then you would have your U.S. copies.

You could try maybe add funds to a humble wallet?

https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/218695508-Humble-Wallet-FAQ#What-is-the-Humble-Wallet

I hope this helps but if not I am sorry

If you must blame someone for region-locking it should be developer/publishers (or perhaps your fellow gamer for exploitation that led to it in the first place), not Humble as this is out of their hands. Having said that, if you start messing with a VPN you could conceivably cause other issues to arise, like receiving a key that you are unable to activate for your real region/country where you reside. I'll let you guess whose fault something like that would be.

You're talking about alternative versions / censoring, it has absolutely nothing to do with publisher's region locks.

Don't use VPN for Paypal. You can use exception for some web-sites like Paypal, but Paypal discover country of your bank card for shop. And you receive region-locked useless garbage:(
Better use Amazon Payment + VPN for buy on Humble Bundle. You can get Row (or NA) version of Steam keys.

One of my friends used vpn to buy ROW keys from humble, and do giveaways. And then, one day, they banned his account, revoked all keys he bought (and returned money, yes). He had a lot of troubles to replace games to winners of his giveaways (or get their agreement to remove giveaway when he could not replace the key). It was a pain in the ass. Long story short - using vpn to buy stuff is really bad idea. Sooner or later you'll get problems this way.

They don't need too. It will be against their ToS/ToU which you agreed to when signing up/making a purchase. It will almost certainly also state that they don't need to give notice and/or reason. They probably didn't even need to offer the refund.

Isn't HB also locking based on payment address? No VPN can circumvent your registered address at your bank.
There are international virtual credit card providers like EntroPay which can legally give you a bank card registered in many selectable countries (most go for USA), but they have a nice percentage as a fee.

It isn't, I know from experience that the registered address of the payment method you use has no relation to the region lock status of the redeemed purchase. For example, if you purchase a bundle as a gift from the US, with an U.S. verified paypal account, and someone from japan redeems the bundle, it will be region locked to SEA (if applicable).

A friend of mine actually had this issue. He was going to give me a copy of XCOM 2 but then the region-lock thing happened. He just contacted Humble support and a week or two later they started giving out Asia keys for XCOM 2 :)

Edit: I'm from SEA and my friend was from NA

I see, so even keys from NA is region locked? Damn, well thanks for the info. This is too much trouble to do then, guess I'll do things normally tsk

Can't you just use gift links?
I mean keys would be locked to your region but links should be for the region of person who redeemed it or am I wrong here?

Well when I made my gift link for xcom 2 it says it can only be opened in certain countries.
