So I played this game manually for quite a while early on today, reaching around Level 4, and noticed that the repetitiveness of it starts to give you hand cramps very quickly.

But anyways I was curious to see if it's possible, and technically it is but not advisable.

  • To reach Level 9 and get Level 3 Badge you need 450,000 points
  • Max points are around 2360 on Threat Level 3
  • You need around 2-3 clicks/keypresses a second for 2 minutes to get the 2k+ points
  • We will say you spread this around 14 days of the sale
  • Additional time, 10 seconds or so between rounds
  • 450000 / 2360 = 191 games
  • 191 games * 120 seconds = 22920 seconds / 60 = 382 minutes / 60 = 6.37 hours
  • 22920 seconds * 2.5 clicks = 57300 total
  • Around 32 minutes extra between rounds in total
  • At the very least 7 hours 9 minutes of time to reach Level 3 manually, but this assuming near perfection
  • 22920 / 14 = 1637.14 seconds of clicking each day * 2.5 = 4092 clicks in 27.3 minutes per each day for 14 days straight

It seems a bit insane and possibly dangerous? I think Valve should consider that some kids might actually play this game manually and it seems a bit dangerous to click this much. They need to add autofire at the very least.

Correct me if my math is wrong.

I cross-posted this on reddit as well.

EDIT: combatbeard has asked for people to choose S.Gifts as their default group.

"If people don't choose a group to represent it will default to Steam Universe group which is why they are leading on most tiles. We had the lead on one tile earlier but we don't have the numbers atm."

This one needs you to have a browser tab open while the other one runs in the background. I've been using it but it stopped working yesterday for some reason so I've switched to the PHP one.

Will these newer planets add more than 2400 points on the High Threat level? Anyone met or knows more about those Boss level enemies? Considering that you don't get badge level 5 even on level 14 in-game, I think it will take ridiculously more millions of points for level 6 Saliens badge. And 2400 points on High or 1200 on Medium, seem like far too little gain.

I am on Rank 2 currently Level 6. I have been looking for the requirement to increase Rank, I guess Rank 3 is the furthest I will go once I reach Lvl 9. I have only played Medium difficulty and able to get perfect games if I am focused enough. I can't think of playing High until I get to Lvl 9.

Did anyone received one of these 'giveaway' event games?

Click view giveaway details for a planet: https://store.steampowered.com/saliens

Then at the bottom for a conquered planet click: You can find the list of lucky winners here.

Your chance is incredibly low, like 1 in 1k+ probably assuming you idle a planet for it's entire time.

Bots are are winning some of games, which is pretty much wasted on them as the owners only care about the cards which aren't worth much for these games.

Just noticed I did. Won Diluvion on Underwater Exploration Planet I on Monday :)
I found it out randomly while browsing my owned games manually, and the only notification I found about it was in my mailbox I forgot to check.

It did for me, half an hour ago, without any issues. All the 3 cards, plus the other 3 for "exploring" the store.

At this rate, it's impossible to reach rank 6 even for 99% of scripters.

I really hope the boss theory is true and it'll give tons of XP.

If not, then my guess was bit off. But even with starting a day or two late, I can still easily reach 21 with only medium difficulty zones that take about 30h per level.

Are you sure about that? I've been scripting 24/7 since day 1 (using the PHP script since day 2), with a few hours lost here and there. If nothing will change, I could be glad if I reach level 20. Need at least 2 extra days for level 21.

I've looked you up on SteamDB, you're 999th right now with level 15. Why do you think you'll easily reach level 21 with medium difficulty? There are only about 5,5 days left. Jumping a level usually takes 15-60 hours, depending on difficulty. But from level 19, they require double amount of XP, so going from 19 to 21 takes AT LEAST 60 hours.

According to my calculation, neither you nor I will I be able to reach level 21 in 5,5 days. We need bosses or another XP boost to even have a chance for that.

Quickly estimated it bit wrong then, I'll blame it on too little morning coffee.

127 hours left, on hard 15 hours per level should get me from 15 to 19 in 60h. And if the cost doubles for the last 2 levels needed, that means another 60h leaving 7 whole hours time to include some mediums in the mix, eazy. :)

[09:46:51] >> Score: 7,376,870 XP => 7,379,270 XP - Current level: 15 (87.85%)
[09:46:51] >> Next level: 8,400,000 XP - Remaining: 1,020,730 XP - ETA: 12h 59m

Well, it's theoretically possible, but we can't rely on constantly getting hard tiles. I don't know about the exact numbers, but I'd say it's around 65% hard, 25% medium and 10% low, at least for me (could be completely wrong about this tho). Not to mention the occasional server errors that could take away some precious time as well.

Oh well, I'll go back to trusting that our Lord Gaben will save us in the end and not worry about it too much. :)

Edit: I'm quite sure that leaving this open at the same time will greatly speed it up.

I wonder, if there will be some kind of extra planet once those in the list are all conquered (with more tiles, harder tiles and better max scores) because in the trading cards there's a "duldrum boss" which I haven't seen yet (okay, I admit, that doesn't mean a thing, as I only played a few games manually) and a duldrum homeworld which also isn't on the list of planets.

Allegedly, there are bosses in the code, although those lines are commented out, so they can't appear (yet). This and the card itself should be enough to confirm the existence of bosses, but Valve being Valve, who knows? Maybe they dropped the whole idea.

If they want to troll us scripters, they should add bosses at the last day, and make it so normal players can easily reach rank 6 by fighting these bosses for a few minutes. This would make 2 weeks of scripting literally worthless, but I wouldn't even be mad if I reached rank 6 this way.

Thanks for the heads up! I was sleeping during this time, so I've already missed 3 bosses or so. But seeing the insane amount of XP they give out, rank 6 should be very easy now. Even new players can get it with a few boss fights.

So how do you meet those bosses and get tons of XP?
I haven't seen a single one and if they only appear if a planet is exactly at that moment conquered I bet manuals don't stand a chance (most do when I sleep anyway :/).

Bosses occur randomly every few hours on random planets.

Basically you have zero chance to play this game manually and attain a high badge rank, it's just not possible.

The fact that Drunken F00l is providing tips and info to script writers (to avoid lag) tells you that Valve devs are okay with scripting in this case.

Ah, that's nice. Allowed me to actually battle a boss and get 500k XP (which literally is the same amount I got playing all these days 0_o).
Thanks!
