Just a FYI for our upside-down friends. The press release:

October 11th, 2024 - Valve (Steam, Steam Deck, Half-Life, CS2) is excited to announce that Steam Deck will begin shipping to Australia in November 2024 (that's next month!)

We announced Steam Deck, a powerful hand-held gaming PC, in fall of 2021 and began shipping it the following March to North America, Europe, and (via KOMODO) to Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Friday, in a special countdown video played for gamers awaiting the doors opening to PAX Australia, we will announce that we're finally able to add Australia to the regions Steam Deck will ship directly via Steam. In celebration, we have a booth set up on the PAX floor where gamers can swing by during the event and demo Steam Decks for themselves!

We've been working on bringing Steam Deck to Australia for a while. It took a bit more time than we expected, and we're pleased that we can finally make this announcement.

These models will be available at the following prices (all prices inclusive of GST):

256GB LCD: $649.00 AUD
512GB OLED: $899.00 AUD
1TB OLED: $1049.00 AUD

We are honored and excited to be here in Melbourne for this announcement and look forward to providing customers in Australia the chance to purchase Steam Decks directly from Steam beginning in November!

That's good news since the grey market will have to drop their prices to at least match the RRP.

Cool. So Steam Deck 2 will probably be announced soon to leave Australia behind again. ;)

It seems bizarre to say but these prices aren't entirely unreasonable, considering what the Steam deck can actually do, had thought Valve would have taken the opportunity to apply a rather generous Australia Tax like alot of other companies do. Still lightyears beyond anything I can afford but I can dream can't I 😂.

Will be interesting if this has any real effect on the resale market here, a couple of months ago I came across 2 Steam Decks in an electronics exchange/second hand store; $900 for the LCD and nearly $1100 for the 512GB OLED, both rather surprisingly visually well-used. Thought it was barmy but the next month I noticed the LCD one wasn't there any more 🤷‍♂️.
