Mmm, what I do is keep installed only fixed amount of games of different genres and install new one after finishing&removing one from the list. This limits the "i have nothing to wear" problem ;) You may also try BLAEO group (recruitment is open) or simply pursue different activities for now until gaming urge comes back )

Too many games problems, I have them too.
The way I do it is, whenever I get a new bundle or win a new game, I put them under a "1st priority" category in my library. It's a lot easier to pick a game to play out of a 20 games list, rather than a 1400 games list. Also it forces me to be more hesitant when buying new bundles and entering giveaways, since more new games means the lists gets longer and I obviously don't want that. Whenever I finish a game from the list or decide that I no longer enjoy playing that game, I remove it from the list.
Also I stopped buying bundles that have a lot of games that I know I'd never play (regardless of them having cards or not etc.), that way I save money and backlog space.
The problem with games like CSGO/DOTA/TF2 etc. is that you're never really done with them unless you realize they're no longer fun to you (since there's no definitive "engame"), but then again, if you really enjoy playing one of those consistently, then there's no point for you to buy more games since you can just play them.

You can use SteamDB calculator and apply filters; for example, if you are an achievement hunter you can filter by games with them and then sort by reviews (if you trust in them): https://steamdb.info/calculator/76561198073922042/?cc=us&category=22
Top unplayed games:
The Wolf Among Us
South Park™: The Stick of Truth™
Both games have 97% positive reviews, achievements and you haven't played them. And so on.

I am currently struggling with my backlog as well, trying to balance between killing it, real life stuff and other things. Thing is, during the times where I'm supposed to be killing it, I tend not to do it and instead spend the time pondering, trying to decide which game I should play. The dilemma is horrible. Though, I think the fact that the majority of my library are single player games contributes a lot to my dilemma. I've been spending most of my Steam gaming time playing co-op games with friends and they're almost always great fun, and it just make single player games seem so uninteresting regardless of how good they are. Which is very stupid, but I can't help feeling that way.
Though, recently I've started using this tool to help me decide which games to play, and it's been working fairly well. Having a big library has made handpicking games from the games list impossible so it's great to have a tool to help me. Perhaps you'll find it helpful too!

I moved the Steam folder on a smaller hdd, so I can't install dozens of games but few at a time. For now it's working and I started to play them from start to finish.
Obviously there are problems with the games without an end... I still have no solution for them ^^

Welcome back! Don't worry, give us some time and the drama will subside. :)
This thread is actually striking some cords with me cause I'm finding myself in a very similar situation. I just built a new PC and am feeling very ADHD with my steam library too. Very much like you, I can play ANYTHING, just picking one is the problem. As other's have mentioned, using BLAEO is helping out alot. Being able to organize everything and make a gameplan, pun intended, is quite helpful.
Anyhoo, welcome back again and hope you stay with us awhile! :D

I think achievements and stats matter in this. I have this same issue and end up playing always the same games. And most of these even fell for that. If there was no achievements I think it would help play something else more, as I feel like approaching games knowing there are stupid achievements and whatnot tied to them is not natural anymore. Having so many games available at once is a really big matter too and makes up for an huge part of the problem.

I agree there's too much choice. Maybe we need someone or something to make the choice for us. What if there was a program that could help us select a game? It scans our library and then picks the game. It could be fine-tunable, like it could ask us what genre we feel like playing (FPS, RPG, strategy, etc.) or what we're in the mood for (comedy, horror, etc.) or it could be totally random.
Would be nice if Steam had some feature like this and we could set it to be even more aggressive and lock out all unplayed games until we played the one it picked (overridable of course). Most of us know the experience of playing a game because we were forced to in some way (not having many games, going to a friend's house and they're playing it). The point is sometimes we need that decision to be out of our hands. Some of my favorite games have been because someone or something caused me to play them.

So uh.... Things are different around here since I was last here. Many people I knew and looked up to have either quit SG or moved on to other things in their life. People cannot debate on something without gouging each other's eyes out, or bringing up drama that doesn't concern the topic at hand. With all that said and done (which I am sure many others have pointed out before me), I have to understand that this community has to, and will, change as time passes, for better or worse, and that I must learn to either adapt with it, or move on. But there is one thing that's been bugging me.
I, myself, have changed. And not in the way you would think.
There was a time when I used to be able to pick up a game, play it at a stretch, and be done with it. That was when I had barely any games to play. Heck, my first game was Claw, my second, Onimusha 3, third, Batman Arkham Asylum, and finally fourth, TF2 (which is what brought me to Steam). During my time here, I not only learnt that I had not played 90% of all the good titles out there, but that I had been looking at the gaming industry through a keyhole. I learnt about the distinction between AAA and Indie games, the existence of bundles, and of course, the significance of Steam in the middle of everything else. As my knowledge grew, so did my library, as well as my laptop's woes. There came a point when I couldn't play anything on the damn thing, and so I decided to play them later, and instead focus on trading up to a PC.
About a month ago, I finally built a good PC, and felt great about it. While I never really built it for gaming, there was definitely a part of me that was thrilled to be able to play ANYTHING that I choose to without anything in my way. So I left my PC on for a few nights, and downloaded over 60 titles. Once done, I said, "Let's play one". Then I kept staring at the list, pondering over what I should play. And as I did, I began to panic.
I was actually struggling to choose one.
After a point, I spaced out, and unconsciously fired up CS:GO instead of any of the new titles. And its not even a game I particularly like. Played a match, got bored, shut it off, and again stared at the list.
This was new to me. How could I not choose? What had happened to all those times when I could just download a game and play it immediately with no regrets? Was I so spoilt for choice that I had lost my drive to play? Was age catching up to me? Or was it something else?
To all those generous souls whose gibs I won , you have my heartfelt gratitude. But I just don't know what has come over me.
Am I unable to choose what to play?
Why am I wary when I will myself to choose any of them?
Do I feel like I am favoring one Steamgifter over the other?
Or do I feel like games have become a task, one that I must carefully plan before undertaking?
I honestly cannot tell. And I think maybe a fresh set of eyes might solve this conundrum I face.
As promised, here is your candy. Might only be for those over 5 though, sorry.
I would also like to mention that I do not want any sort of elitism, drama, hate, propoganda, passive aggressiveness, and any other form of negativity I may have missed, on this post. Learn to love each other instead, it would make it easier for all parties involved.
