Hello everyone, I'm new here. Although I still didn't get anything, I would like to contribute. I checked the GA tool and it seems I can do 2 kinds of GA: keys or gifts.

From my understanding, keys mean I'll just input the key(s) in the box and the system will give it to the winner when the GA is done. Gifts mean I will need to add friend and gift them myself via Steam.

Now, I just don't like adding strangers and there will be issue with time since I'm in Asia and working/playing alot. So I'd like to do GAs only with keys. But how to get keys? I only know that Steam gives me an option to "gift games to friends" when I'm purchasing. Or I can buy a pack (something 4 bundle package) and the games stay as an Steam item. So I'll need to trade/gift the friend personally as well.

How do I get a game key?

Edit: Thanks everyone for your help, what an amazing community. I'll stick with gifting via Steam (email) then. All keys are purchased via 3rd party sites and I don't want to use my card on too many sites like that. Cheers.

You cannot get a steam key directly from Steam as they are used by third party sites. However, you need not friend anybody as with Steam you have the option to send gifts through email as the winner's email will be displayed on his or her profile here on the site.

But anyway when the winner accepts the gift he will be added to his friendlist, right? Of course he can always remove him after that.

Any steam game that you buy outside the steam store is a key, for example:

  1. Physical copies
  2. Third party stores (Amazon, GMG, GamersGate, Humble, etc)
  3. Bundle sites (HumbleBundle, BundleStars, IndieGala, Groupees, etc)

Actually, if you wanna buy a specific game you can search for it here: https://isthereanydeal.com/
It will give you a list of all the stores that sell it and a bunch of sales and bundles information.

This are not the best places to acquire Steam keys I'm afraid. I had some games revoked that I bought from there, no refund.

you don't need to send the gift instantly. you will have 7 days to deliver it.
you also don't need to add people and trade the gift, you can send it to the winner's email. just remember the person redeeming the gift will be added to your friend list, but you can delete them later.

Almost every other store selling Steam games gives out keys.

I'd recommend isthereanydeal.com to you. Not only you get a good overlook about all the shops there are, but also they help you find the best deals.

Welcome to SG :D
