The way I hear it, trick and treat is slowly losing its prominence in the US. Friend told me that earlier they'd get roughly 200 kids asking for treats, and that there'd be loads of goodies given, even homemade snacks. Now because of safety precautions, fear of unwrapped things as well as lurkers on the round, most kids either just go only to the posh neighborhoods or hang out at the mall. It's pretty sad though, last year friend had an entire bowl of snickers and only 3 kids showed up.

+1 the number of kids coming has been decreasing more and more every year. we also only had 3 visits last year. and my sister does the same for my nephews that you mentioned above, they drive to a nicer neighborhood for trick or treating. everyone else around here doesnt even bother trying
