500 hours? I always try the 24 hour version and can't even make it past the first hour. That said, this is definitely a sad occasion.

Agreed. I love when internet celebrities find out they're famous, from Khil, to ridiculously photogenic guy, to xzibit.

its kinda sad he died without even knowing why he got famous with the video

Not true, he did know he was famous with the video

But he WAS good, now wasn't he?
He realised people liked the song because it was silly and funny. It's not necessary to know any internet memes to understand this. Although I wouldn't be surprised if his grandchildren actually explained all of this to thim.

Oh ok sorry for misreading. Than my second answer applies "The word "troll" (тролль) is used a lot now with the same meaning in Russia, so he could have known that as well."
Besides, he was working together with his son and taught his grandson how to sing (he said he literally spent years on that). So I would not be surprised one of them could have explained his the situation.

I hope this isn't a trololololol post.
RIP Eduard Khill.

To everyone doubting - it is actual real news. We have this information today also. This is sad, indeed, as with the rise of popularity in the West Khil made sort of a comeback in Russia too. I personally think he could have become even more popular in the recent years, if it was not for the Russian "pop-star" mafia.
Using this opportunity I would be interested to make a small survey. What interests me primarily is to know why exaclty the "trololo" idea became so wildly popular abroad. Is it because it coincides well with the word "troll"? Is it because of the funny way Khil used to perform the song? Is it because of the music? I would be interested to find out. What I do know quite well is that his popularity in Russia came back exactly because he became popular in the English-speaking Interwebs.
