Yeah, I'm sure nothing beats the original 1989 game, but which is best on Steam?

IMO, Prince of Persia. Because of the graphic type and the smoothness of the controls. Although I have to admit Prince of Persia fans may prefer the others. But give it a try.

That one, the 2008 one is pretty much the worst pop. I'd say give sands of time and warrior within a try. Two thrones and forgotten sands are decent also

Purchase the "Sands of Time" series: Sands of Time, Warrior Within & Two Thrones. I've got them all on my good ol' Gamecube and now PC.

They are miles better than PoP 2008 & Forgotten Sands.

I'm enjoying PoP 2008, but I didn't have enough money to buy the others, so I can't say if this one's better. But if you say this is the worse, I can imagine the others must be super fucking awesome.

If you like non stop action and stringing together awesome combos.

But Sands of Time had a better better balance between gameplay, story and puzzles.

My choice as well. Some of the critisism it received is sound but some of it is just BS. It is a better game than all the rest imo.

Pretty much the best PoP out there as for me. Theme was executed perfectly and story was just plain AWESOME.

And 2008 was much better than Forgotten Sands(which was kinda trying to get into Warrior Within, unsuccesfuly) IMO, it had its own, unique style of graphics and gameplay.

I am a hardcore PoP fan and I din't like it at all, and I guess most fans feel the same way. If your casual then you wont notice what's wrong. And in that case there is no point arguing with you.

And how do you know I haven't played all Prince of Persia starting with the very first sidescrolling version? Stop being ignorant and call people casual just because you are having a carrot stuck up in your ass when a game changes a little.

"Hardcore PoP fan", whatever. I was operating a PoP site in my country back in the days when the Sands of Time trilogy started, speculating 24/7 about the story of the sequels when they were in the works, keeping a forum up for the fans, it doesn't get any more "hardcore" than that. If you are a true fan, you dedicate something to a game, not just talk gibberish.

Please read before replying. I prefixed the sentence with 'IF'. So, you can keep the carrot for yourself.

All I was saying I look for novelty in games, and forgotten sands totally lost it. Google about it and you'll find out who is talking gibberish.

Just like what Jonathan Blow said, there is a mechanical line has established the fact, what a good game is like, and when this makes a noise, 'casual' people starts screaming, now the have something new to fuss about.

You don't need brain to play games, just eyes and fingers are enough. Who needs novelty, who needs the sense of discovery, who needs respect from the game? Give a them some platforms and people will start jumping on them. They are not going to pause and ask, 'Why?'. Even a monkey can be taught to play that game.

Comment has been collapsed.

You really make zero sense now, as Forgotten Sands and Sands of Time are pretty identical, except platforming in TFS needs more precision and timing.

And at least try to phrase proper sentences before you want to look smart by "quoting" Jonathan Blow. Jeez. Even a monkey can type properly. See what I did there?

Anyway, I'm done with you.

Currently playing Prince of Persia and I really love it. It's more of a sotrytelling game with beautiful landscapes, great gameplay and nice sporadic fights compared to hte more action oriented other PoP games. In a way I feel a very big similitude to Shadow of the Colossus in how the wolrd is open and the story is told.

It's kinda stupid that Ubisoft doesn't sell it like that in digital stores but it exists in retail. Aka: Sands of Time + Warrior within + Two thrones. If anyone's planning to play those games, it's recommended to play them in order so you won't have gaps in story.

I know, that's why I said it. HD Collections are pretty popular cash-ins by publishers these days, but PoP would be one I'd happily pay for. Widescreen support and the likes. The graphics itself of the SoT Trilogy is still quite nice, aged really well.

Sands of Time is the big classic. Warrior Within probably has better combat, but bland story and characters. Two Thrones is somewhere in between Dark Prince parts aren't good. PoP08 has great art style and platforming isnt bad, but you can't die (makes it casual), also alot of enemies have QTE you have to go through in order to beat them which gets repetitive. Forgotten Sands is okay, but uninteresting story and characters, obvious movie cash in and DRM. So probably SoT, but it may not have aged well if you never played it, combat is tedious. Each has their flaws

I've only played the original Sands of Time trilogy so I can't say much about 2008 and Forgotten Sands.

Sands of Time is one of my favourite games. It is absolutely amazing for me. I think I've finished it about 4-5 times. The combat isn't all that great and there are only two boss fights. The first boss fight is at the end of the tutorial and is very hard, while the second is the last boss and is ridiculously easy. While the combat isn't all that great the rest of the games makes up for it a lot.

The combat was really improved in Warrior Within but everything else was thrown away to make room for a more gritty "mature" feel. Dark motifs and oversexualisation stands out here. It just doesn't feel right, they were trying to make the whole thing look tougher and they lost what the first game was actually about.

In The Two Thrones they tried to go back to that feeling of the first while also experimenting with the combat. It has this stealth kill mechanic that for me wasn't that enjoyable. I'd go so far as saying that this one might be even less enjoyable although they did try with it.

In the end if you just want good combat and nothing else go for Warrior Within. If you want anything else go for Sands of Time.

Sands of Time was good game. My friend actually has original CD and I've finished it. Forgotten Sands looked kinda nice too but the new game sucked so hard... that anime style graphics just isn't for PoP.

cel-shaded equals anime for you? dafuq?

Borderlands was designed at the beginning with realistic graphics in mind, then it switched to cel-shaded too. Did that hurt a game? Nope.

And it fits PoP even more, since it's about fucking tales.

Really?

PoP has a legacy. I played every PoP from MS-DOS up-until the Forgotten Sands came out. I don't want to go with the details, but its clear you don't get the charm of PoP series and I would suggest you to play all.

2008 one really sucks in my opinion. I found it very repetitive and plain boring because of that.

Sands of times was my favorite and WW and TTT were pretty good too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have to say that 2008 is the worst one. My biggest problem with it is that i don't see it as a PoP at all. On top of that, there is not much story and gameplay is mostly "empty". I felt like walking through ghost town whole time. Also, i was pretty disappointed to see that there was no bonus for collecting more than the minimum of those energy spheres.

Forgotten sands recieved a lot of criticism and i can understand why. It was supposed to be like a sands of time, but it never got there. Other, than not being true to the sands of time, i think that it is actually a good game. If it had better story and if it lasted longer it would be great. I really enjoyed combining elements in platforms and fights.

Choosing between the SOF, TTT and WW is the hardest part. SOF had the fun factor with the goofy and careless prince. Other two are darker as the prince gets older. I am not sure i can choose one of them. Saying that on of those three is the best might convince someone to play that one game and skip the others which is wrong. Whole trilogy is a must and there is no need to choose one.
