But how do you know it's re-gifted though? Could it be their own key they have? Or is there something I have missed?

you can see what games they won through their profile.

Well, the main thing is that they could bought it, you have to check their profiles also.

Sure, for example, dude won Dwarfs!? Yesterday and he is doing Give away today. Common, do You really believe that he bought it to give it away?

I believe that there are people like this. They are happy that developer is generous and they decide to buy their own copy to give away.

I have stuff in my inventory that I haven't used. So I can't win something and then give away the key in my inventory? That's the biggest sack of shit I've ever seen, and if someone ever reports me for it I'll stop donating. That simple.

Is it stated in the rules that all winnings must be redeemed on the winning account. I think the possibility of them having a key for Dwarfs, winning another and then redeeming none and making a give away like that is extremely unlikely.

A person that won one of the giveaways I did, and had the same game in their inventory. But did not have it on their accounts till after they got the game from me. So, that does actually happen.

Some people just really like winning things :)

Yeah, but they redeemed it after getting it from you, right? This is the main thing - none of these people has Dwarfs redeemed.

I guess you replied to the wrong person :> . You can do that (as far as I know ;>). The point is that most of the people reporting for Dwarfs! (in this case) GA's won't even check whether the guy own the game or not since people tend to crucify people just like that without looking further into the case. In the end, if you actually activated the game you've won and you're giving away a copy which you required afterwards, you should be ok. One thing I don't remember exactly (so don't quote me on that) was that if you have the game in your inventory - you may not enter the GA for that game since it counts as owning it.
My "Yes" reply was purely sarcastic because, no, that's not that common (but still possible, tho).

Is it impossible for people to hoard their humble bundle key until tomorrow? A lot of people may have not felt the need to do a giveaway for the game being the 10000 copies one was advertised. Check out how many were created before and after that giveaway made an appearance. I was joining that game's giveaway everyday since humble bundle and then suddenly people stop creating giveaways for it. More than possible people are not giving away the dwarfs key they won.

Comment has been collapsed.

It's the matter of rules. 1) No one can enter a giveaway for the game they already own on Steam. 2) A winner has to redeem the code right after getting it. So if someone has a lottery marked as "won" in their profile (they were able to enter it so they didn't have the game before) but no game on their Steam account, and they're giving the key away... Well.

The people you are talking about most likely won't see this warning you are posting. I checked several profiles while submitting report, and the majority of all Dwarfs regifters are East European or otherwise a non-English speaking country. They may not have read the rules to start with (are they multilingual?), and might be used to Gameminer.ru where regifting is allowed (I think...).

Most people from Europe learn English as their second language, so I don't think this is a problem here. Don't know about this Russian website though...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, because Russia is not in Europe and is all backwards and impaired in every way imaginable. And it should be with snow laying all year long, constant vodka drinking and squat dancing with bears to the balalaika.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I didn't mean it like that. Although I can see why it could be read like that - I'm sorry. I was referring to this website, since it appears to be Russian. I'll edit my comment to be more clear. Oh, and the Europe thing... I know part of Russia is in Europe, but the other part is in Asia... Should I say "Eurasian" then?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh right, just because they're part in Asia, they're like all the other Asians who can't learn any other language than their own right? :P

Permalink

Hey, I didn't say that either. I'm just asking what is the proper way of describing their country's location.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Eurasian is correct actually. But then again Turkey and Spain both are located on two continents but people only mention one when describe their geographical location.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

A small correction: Spain is only in one continent, Europe. It's close to Africa, but not connected. (Hrm, unless you're thinking of Ceuta and Melilla, but then there's also other countries with territories in another continent.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, I'm talking about their african lands. As far as I know they are not counted as overseas territories like what Great Britain and France have. But I can be mistaken.

I apologize, that was too rude of me. English is tought as a second language in vast majority of schools in Russia. But that doesn't mean people actualy leran it, most of them can't even learn Russian.

It's okay, I understand your reaction - the internet is full of misconceptions about Russia (about my country too, I'm from Poland) and sometimes it's hard to tell apart people who say such things on purpose and people who say stupid stuff unintentionally, like I did. Sorry about that again. I'm glad we managed to avoid an argument. :)

Whenever there's a major giveaway, there's bound to be sanity checks on those who post a giveaway for that game.

Users aren't that naive & will check your Steam Gift profile to see if you won in that giveaway AND will check your Steam profile to see if you actually have a copy of the game in library.

Won Title in Mass Giveaway + No record of said game in library = BIG ASS RED FLAG FOR REGIFTING!!!

For anybody who actually BOTHERS to RTFM would no that regifting is against the rules here. Even if it wasn't it would still be extremely lame as you screwed other everybody else in that giveaway just to flip it on your own giveaway. It's a royal dick move that people would definitely lynch the offender, given the chance (which is probably why it's clearly noted in said rules).

Those who are regifting (who I have reported as well) have been here for a few months, so you have little excuse to do it WITHOUT knowing as ignorance is NOT a viable excuse... it doesn't hold up in court a law, so why do you think it'll hold up here. You're not getting any sympathy from me if you fail the sanity check.

For this particular game you actually cannot check whether a winner has activated it on their Steam account or not. At least not directly on their Steam profile.

The only way to check that would be to have that user in your friendslist, and put the game in your basket on Steam, and select to send directly as a gift, there it will show the people in the friends list that already have it (and off course, I advise you not to continue after that, as you will have to actually pay for it in the next steps..).

I just activated mine this morning and it's showing up on my profile (I briefly made my profile public and then checked it from my browser without logging in). I was also able to identify the one person out of 10+ Dwarfs!? giveaways that was actually not re-gifting. It showed up on his profile too.

But people should also remember to refrain from calling out, even if you are 100% sure (unlikely).

I never called anyone out. As for the ten I looked at first ten which had just won the game. 100% sure to which ones . . I never said. Calling out is accusing specific people. seeing at there have been 30 giveaways from time game was given out you cannot say I am directly accusing anyone of anything.

I'm not sure of anything. . . but I am 100% sure my Point isn't calling out any particular user. Which is what calling out is (said user did this) referring to a group is pointing out an issue.

oh, I didn't mean to say you are doing it now. I was thinking of people doing so on the actual giveaway pages. And I saw one person doing so right before one giveaway was deleted. I meant no offence.

Just keep an eye out and if anyone wins your game, won Dwarfs, and doesn't have it activated, ask for a reroll and get them suspended.

I wish gifts could be automatically activated on winners' account without giving a key to a winner with an obligation to redeem it self. That's is surely a very difficult task to do, but i cannot really imagine how many people are misusing current system and are regifting their gifts...

Nope, when you buy a humble bundle they aren't immediately activated to your account, you have to click a button to do that, and you can still gift the keys away if you wish
