It was created for this event. I didn't post it right away, because I only created the event today (as you can see in my event link). I had created the GA, but I still hadn't all the keys, so I didn't post the link anywhere.

I'm confused. I only excluded posting them in this thread earlier, so as to bundle them with the next two (for your convenience), and because I was waiting for the third one to clear from the first set that I posted earlier* (for the same reason).

I followed your instructions to the letter-
"
a) it was created after this thread opened
b) this event is mentioned in the description, together with a link to this thread. "

There isn't a single thing in the rules about when they need to be posted to this thread..

Except for all the users that commented during that time and could testify to the fact, or the fact that there's no point in suddenly stopping a description after I've already included it in every giveaway I've ever posted.
Or, you know, that fact that I'm incapable of lying or breaking pattern due to my autism.

Whatever, these'll be my last contributions with the link included, then, not worth the stress of adhering to capricious whims. :)

Thanks for all the giveaways! I have my concerns about this event and whether the lasting remark it makes will be positive or negative, but regardless of its effects, this event nonetheless helps contribute a lot of giveaways to the site.

The only modifications I would make to the event is that the exclusive group is disbanded or membership expires after a set period of time (or once the next event begins, if there's ever another event like this) so as to prevent any sort of elitism or disproportional rewards; and that all giveaways which have level restrictions have the points they contribute to the user's total score reduced by a percentage proportional to half the restriction. Thus, a Lv. 4 giveaway will have it's contributing score reduced by 20%, causing it to be valued at only 80% its normal point value; and a Lv. 8 giveaway will have its contributing score reduced by 40%, causing it to be valued at only 60% its normal point value. This is to ensure the event remains something that benefits the maximum number of people. This event already started and has many participants, though, so these modification suggestions aren't really useful right now. If there is a MIDSUMMER MADNESS event on SteamGifts next year, perhaps these suggestions could be considered for then.

Other than that, I think the event is great and I applaud the efforts of its organizers. I appreciate all the contributors and their contributions. Hopefully, there will be another one of these events next year.

If you don't mind and have some free time - please don't hesitate to explain what exactly your concerns are, and why you think it might leave a negative remark. Thank you in advance!

To be honest, my first paragraph—which mentioned my concerns—was left over from my first draft of the post. I hadn't revised it yet, so it still expressed concerns I had which were based on a misunderstanding of the event. I had misinterpreted the rules and description of this event as granting membership to two groups as a reward, one of which was only given to the highest contributors and which catered only to a limited few who earned the most points.

This caused me concern because I was worried that this higher group would encourage users to form exclusive, invite-only giveaway groups which only give away among themselves. Thus, my concern that it would leave a negative mark on the site was based on the misunderstanding that this event promoted exclusive, invite-only giveaway groups. I now understand that the event only provides a single group as an incentive for participation, and the purpose of this group is only to reward participants by granting them access to exclusive giveaways. I apologize for the confusion.

I do admit, however, that these concerns also apply to the first group: Is membership permanent? How many members are allowed in? Is there a cap to ensure better odds, or is membership unlimited? Once this event ends, will the group continue to serve as access to exclusive giveaways? During the next event (if there is one), will the group be disbanded or will members have to leave (or be kicked) and earn their membership again? Or will a new group be created while the original group continues to receive exclusive giveaways? These are all questions I have about the first group. If group membership is permanent and the group remains active as a source of exclusive, private giveaways, it may turn into one of those groups which do not contribute to SteamGifts and only to themselves. This would be due to the behaviors of its members and not of its administrator (you).

There isn't anything wrong per se with an exclusive group that only gives away among its own members. Unfortunately, however, a lot of these groups breed a sense of elitism which undermines the site. Additionally, if the group's members only create giveaways for their groups, but enter into public giveaways, this could be seen a leeching behavior. For these reasons, if you do plan on keeping this group active indefinitely, I would recommend making sure there is active moderation to keep it a healthy community and to promote users to give away both publicly and within the group. We are a giveaway site, after all.

Of course, it's entirely your decision with how to run the group and what to do with it after this event. These are just my opinions and suggestions; you have no obligation to follow them. This is just friendly advice, if anything.

Reducing the points a giveaway gets base on the level restrictions? No thank you. Firstly, that would again require an immense amount of time to do. Secondly, i never announced anything like that and changing the system now is not fair to anyone.

I'm aware of the problems with implementing it now, and I agree that it would be unfair to impose these changes on those who have already participated. It may be that many of those users would not have placed level restrictions on their giveaways had they known of this. My suggestion was more to modify your next event like this, if you have one, or to serve as a suggestion for if someone else hosts one similar to this in the future. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear there.

About next years possible event - im not saying anything about it. Wether i will be active on SG next year isnt allready certain, since 1000 different things might happen so i leave... why should i plan anything this far in advance?

No need. I was just making some suggestions for your next event, if you planned on hosting another. If not, then no problem. Maybe my suggestions will inspire someone else, or help another during their planned event. It's your choice to plan in advance, just as it is with your group.

However! I / we will undoubtly learn from this event and make sure, that any comparable event hold by me / us here will definitly improve.

That's all I wanted to help accomplish. Thanks for the event!

You are over thinking something that he created as a fun summer thing that brings the community together. What and how the group will work should be left for him to decide. This isn't any official SG event and as such he wants to reward people who participated, and that's entirely up to him. It could be that other people will be looking at this event and inviting contributors to their own private groups. Would you tell them as well how they should run their groups?

As for creating giveaways only for groups, that's nothing new and nothing wrong with that. Many top contributors of the site already are in such exclusives groups and they are still very generous to the public. They gave away thousands of dollars worth of games to the public and I think they are entitled to join any group they want to. I don't mind some elitism as long as it stays out of the forums and doesn't spiral out of control. Again, these kinds of groups have been there since SG was created and SG is still going strong and growing.

You seem to have a problem with making making higher level giveaways but many people want to reward contributors and don't want to encourage leeching. People are still giving away free games for nothing in return. It's up to them how and who they give their games to. As long as they are not abusing the CV system among close friends, I see no problems with it.

Again, you are over thinking and over analyzing this event. There is no guarantee this will occur next year or ever or even by him. Anyone can make something like this at any time.

E: Also, I doubt people participated in the event because of the group. I myself didn't even notice the group thing. There are already a lot of giveaway groups as I mentioned up there. It's fairly easy to get into and requires far less contribution then what many people gave away here. So I very much doubt people are only entering this event in the hopes of entering some group. They want to give away games and this gave them a final push to do it.

I don't believe I'm overthinking anything at all. I'm analyzing something critically, yes, but since when has examination been overthinking? Overthinking is when sufficient analysis has already been provided, but one continues their scrutinizing and begins to rely on fallacies, unlikely hypotheticals, and the superimposition of abstract paradigms onto events which do not require it (such as imposing ethical or moral justifications for using a pencil rather than a pen). I don't think this qualifies as anything of the sort.

Would you tell them as well how they should run their groups?

I would certainly criticize it and offer suggestions if it's relevant and the discussion is pertaining to their particular groups. I don't see why one should not.

As for creating giveaways only for groups, that's nothing new and nothing wrong with that.

I would dispute that there can be some things wrong with it, including their qualification as being leechers themselves. This ventures outside of the scope of this discussion, though, so maybe it's best to discuss this privately or during another encounter when it's the topic of discussion.

Many top contributors of the site already are in such exclusives groups and they are still very generous to the public. hey gave away thousands of dollars worth of games to the public

Maybe so, maybe not. I don't know, so I won't comment on it.

I don't mind some elitism as long as it stays out of the forums and doesn't spiral out of control.

What is "elitism"?

You seem to have a problem with making making higher level giveaways but many people want to reward contributors and don't want to encourage leeching.

I have concerns about it because it restricts the number of users allowed to participate. I don't subscribe to the concept of "leeching" in how it is generally used. It's a very nebulous term with no universal definition or criteria. Unless you can define it, describe its qualifications, support this definition and description with argumentation, and justify why these "leechers" should be excluded from giveaway opportunities, I don't think it's an appropriate reason to make higher-leveled giveaways.

I've defined "leecher", described their qualifications, defended this with argumentation, and justified their exclusion before, so it's possible. However, I was doing so to justify their blacklisting, not to justify the wholesale categorization of a group of users falling below a certain level threshold as "leechers". To do so would be a sweeping generalization.

People are still giving away free games for nothing in return.

What do you mean by this exactly?

[It] requires far less contribution then [to get into a private giveaway group] what many people gave away here.

That doesn't make any sense. I could purchase a Particula right now and give it away, like this user did, and qualify for the group. That requires only $0.14 USD, far less than virtually al such groups require.

500 giveaways whoop!

Also first name on the list, I feel special.

At least two more giveaways coming from me.

http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/vOUxo/this-war-of-mine - This War of Mine - Public level 3 - starts on June 10...I think.

And possibly one last one will be coming later in June. I want to end my giveaway spree with a bang. Still undecided what it will be though.
