I was talking to my RL friend the other night and had this idea.
Movies others thought were bad but you liked.

So what are some of yours? I like SO many bad movies it might be hard to pick some right off the bat.

Also, as a consolation, another small GA hidden behind a jigidi.

  • The Village (M. Night Shyamalan) -- I liked Signs also, but I really liked The Village. I loved the acting performance from Adrien Brody, and I even liked the twist. I was shocked to learn that most people did not like the movie at all.

  • Reign of Fire -- definitely sort of a B-movie... but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

+1 for The Village and Signs, I actually don't understand why people don't like M. Night's movies, I think he's a genius in his own way.

Well... .some of his movies really are pretty bad...

But I would happily rewatch Signs and The Village anytime.

An old Steve Martin comedy, My Blue Heaven, did not get enough credit for his performance about the lighter side of untrustworthy criminals.

I haven't watched them in a while, but I do enjoy the classic Mortal Kombat movies. Even Annihilation, which has 4% critic ratings and 24% user ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. They're just dumb fun.

Thanks for the giveaway and puzzle!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Tim Burton in 2005. When I first watched the movie, I loved it, so much that it became my top 10 favorite (And still is to this day). I went online expecting great reviews, but I was surprised to see alot of people hating on it and comparing it to the "Superior" 1971 with Gene Wilder (which I actually did not enjoy that much). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder indeed

I also enjoyed the Tim Burton version more, but it has probably to do with the fact I was a kid when I watched it for the first time (and before the original). It's certainly more colorful and cartoony, and a lot less heavy with the... well, heavy elements of the story. I'll revisit them both eventually to see what I think about them now.

Off the top of my head Alien Resurrection, Speed Racer, and the two 1999 Joan of Arc movies.

Probably too many to count honestly, I do unironically enjoy a lot of trash entertainment. To just name a few:

Cry-Baby
Funny Games (US)
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead

I bet there's a lot, just going off the thought that I don't usually look at movies critically (unless I watch them more than once).

Trying to choose well-known movies:

Ghostbusters 2016
Captain Marvel, apparently
Starship Troopers (although I think people are coming around to how good it is nowadays. Great satire.)
Outlaw King (2018) Surprisingly accurate depiction of Robert the Bruce, even down to the linen hosen! Excellent acting as well.
John Carpenter's Vampires
Johnny Mnemnoic
Paul (2011 )
Tank Girl

I liked The Lawnmower Man a lot when I saw it, but haven't seen it since and can't swear that it still holds up now.

Beowulf...

And not the one from 2007. The one from 1999.

I'm pretty ashamed of myself. (let's call this a guilty pleasure)

I ‘m still very fond of him, he played in various B-Series films, and took several discutable carrer choices.

But I still like very much his acting

i enjoyed p.w.s movies when they had that b movie aesthetic.
but he turned absolutely clinical on how to target movies for a specific demographic
i guess that was always the idea, as he really is a work horse in the industry.
i have no idea why most movies after resident evil even sold tickets.
their soulless.sometimes i wonder how he finally got a ridiculous franchise like resident evil and did nothing fun with it
But MK, event horizon, death race and avp where kinda fun

... Postal Movie and Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood ... man you couldn't produce such movies again in this day and age ... it would be interesting to see how a modern variant would look like but i bet it wont be enjoyable

I thought Argylle was pretty good. Fits right in with the kingsmen movies.
I think the Rebel Moon movies have been good as well.
These movies had less than 6 but above 5 average ratings so still on the positive side but barely. Rotten tomatoes and metacritic ratings are pretty low.
