Does anyone else find the Starbound giveaway weird?

Because, marketing and promotion. They want to get the word out on preorders. And the developer is reputable.

I think their game will be on steam anyways. So we just wait for the moment it will be released. Greenlight games aint sure that they gonna be on steam...they waiting for the light.

Not at all. A developer wants to build hype about his game that has a very high probability of being on Steam, and we like free Steam games.

The development team just did an AMA ( ask me anything) on reddit and were giving away pre order gift codes.
They added these here to give everyone a chance at a free copy.
A game like this that broke a quarter of a million dollars in preorders on the first
day on only their website is going to have no problem getting greenlit. To even question it seems like you are trolling.
If the people on the development team were all completely unheard of I could maybe understand the skepticism,
But there is no reason to believe that in this case.

If I dont win I will more then likely be buying this puppy off their website. Love Terraria and this game is shaping up to be just as awesome

I dont see a problem ? Are you paying to enter the giveaway or something? Nope... They are advertising their game and i see nothing wrong with it. You will get in the beta and you will get your key when it's releaseed later this year.

If I don't win, I will be buying it soon as I can.

Awesome of the devs to give away so many copies, and I can't be the only one with the homepage bookmarked, who had previously never heard of the game.

I haven't heard of the game previously either, this is great actually. They're probably just giving pre-order codes. Most likely I won't win one so now I'm hooked on getting it :)) have the pre-order page bookmarked.
