I'm looking to increase my FPS as I have a fairly average system, but I do not know which game boosting application is the optimal choice.
What, in your opinion, is the best game booster and why?

I've recently acquired a new $200 graphics card, it will be a while before I buy a new one.

Programs always seem pretty sketchy... I usually stick with modifying the .ini files.

How do you do that?

Open the file with notepad. You need to check which file and what parameters you should edit for what effect, though. Use Google.

I will never again use IObit software. It's worse than malware.

I don't believe that those programs can give you considerable if any boost (or even decrease performance...), best way is to tune settings of the game itself, check google.

I've tried Razer Game Booster on two systems and it has literally no performance effect and I believe the same will be true for the iobit software. The only way to get any type of significant performance boost is to upgrade your system. Also, the Razer software ended up using a lot of RAM so that didn't really help its cause either.

lol, I thought you're looking for the best (most expensive) booster pack :D Thanks for the laugh (Sadly I can't help with your real issue, hope at least you'll smile about me being sleepy and misunderstanding your title :) )

I use Razer Game Booster and it helps me A LOT. But when my friend used it, he received no performance increase because his PC isn't as weak as mine. You could try it, but I'm not sure if it'll help You.

Some people say it helps, others say it does nothing and others say it makes it worse..

From my experience all those "performance boosting" programs are complete bullshit and none of them boost performance at all.

Process Lasso is another one you can try for free.

the best way to boost performance is to have a clean pc with almost no programs running in the background. it's basically what those apps do.

But the programs help to automatically disable background processes and can make a considerable difference for a PC like mine which is cluttered with nonsense and crap :P

Doubt those tools help anything but stealing some of your money lol ... what helps/will help A LOT on any "average" system:

  • disabling/reducing settings in games you're barely able to notice - like: shadows/dynamic whatnot/Antialiasing/ especially Anisotropic filtering
  • having the best OS for the game ... some Games apparently run with slightly more FPS on Win 8 or less likely on W7, and more likely W10 in the future
  • DX12 on Win 10 < ... no games available yet, but this will be the new API to tweak a LOT of FPS out of many average systems (mainly by distributing the workload way more efficiently on the CPU - so i remember at least)

Changing the settings in the game. Don't run too many programs at once. Close the browser to free up memory.
