This, that's a really old myth. Just buy the parts and build a bitchin PC

THERE'S NOTHING OF MYTH IN THAT BRO, WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX HAVE VIRUS, THE MAIN DIFFERENCE (Windows have LOTS of virus and a SMALL stuff of people searching security holes and patch them for avoid those virus; Mac have A FEW virus, but they are very problematic and also have a SMALL stuff of people working in fix those security issues, and Linux also have virus, but in difference here we have a LOT OF PEOPLE searching and fixing every bug in the operative system)

Yet another myth. The only difference between operating systems is their popularity and as a result attractiveness for virus makers. Should the tables turn and your beloved Linux become the most widespread operating system you'll see that it's like a sieve.
Comment has been collapsed.
I really doubt Linux will become that popular due to the amount of tools they give you and the fact most users of old OSes would be put off by its more user developed fixes.
Comment has been collapsed.
wow a myth chain... Popularity is NOT the only difference as you would hope, not even a significant one at this aspect. Different OS architecture forces viruses to use fundamentally different approaches. Basically while windows deals with this problem just as it comes, mac and linux are able to handle it more globally and effectively.

Ave novie — nostra ales.
Popularity is the most important difference in regards to viruses. If virus makers deemed making malicious software for Mac and Linux profitable, they'd learn any "different fundamental approaches" for their architectures and no amount of "global and effective handling" would stop them.

All you assumptions come to conclusion that OS types have closed ecosystems, and number of smart people working with specific OS is strictly proportional to its popularity. I have to disappoint you, but popular isn't always the better. Also you use your argument just one way for your own point of view, gaining popularity also would provide more resources and attention to compensate evolving threat, at a certain level at least.

I don't make any assumptions about ecosystems, or smart people, or even superiority of any OS. I make a statement that if something is profitable it will be exploited. And if there are millions of people using single OS, there will be people trying to cash in on it.
Comment has been collapsed.
facepalm... do you even read? All your previous statements conclude that popularity is the ONLY major cause of a platform being more exploited. Straight from point A to point B. You don't realize there are more steps between the two and even more factors that affect it. Of course people will always try to exploit profitable thing, but here we come to a question how it can be realized and how resources can be used to achieve that. You just assume it works out exactly the same for every platform while ignoring facts that impact this outcome and hoping people will figure everything out exactly the same without even knowing what are you talking about. As I said before popularity swings both ways, and ignoring other important factors is just stupid speculation in this case.

The difference you realize is irrelevant in context of making viruses. If for instance there were a thousand Macs for every singe Windows no one in their right mind would write malicious software for Windows however easy it might be. If you think otherwise, you are delusional.

delusional... wow you are just projecting now. You said above that if there is something profitable - it will be exploited, and now refuse possibility that people will exploit unpopular system (however easy it might be). My point is you are limited into thinking with proportions and refuse even to consider other factors, probably because you don't know anything about it. Please make some research, your blind belief and twisted one-way logic is killing me.

thank you very much for the link, any decent audio software for windows is appreciated! I am a beginning guitar player.

Mac, iOS and Apple sucks... Seriously...buy a real PC and use Windows 8...

If you want to go apeshit about something at least have the courtesy to name it properly.

Yes, I've used it enough (set up several laptops that came with it, tried it for a month on a VM).
Some of its main issues are;
-no Start MENU (fuck that button that brings you to Metro they're introducing in SP1)
-Dual booting Linux is a pain in the ass
-Metro
-Metro apps

-I booted Linux just fine.
-You don´t need to use metro apps.
-No start menú: you just click the button, write the inicial letters and then you have what you want, I don´t see why is so horrible. Maybe weird at first. I use desktop most of the time without problem.
Just because you don´t like it makes W8 a tablet OS.

No one is forcing you to use Moder Apps and Start screen is an excellent substitute for Start button.

I can run Call of Pong 2: Black Paddles at 60FPS on max aliasing with triple buffering and an orange coated marshmallow on my OSuX. I'd say it's great for gaming!

"Choose a computer?"choose components for this amount, don't buy an already done PC, it could be very very bad, and Macs are very bad for Gaming, and Mac Mini even worse because don't have any graphics card. Also I don't think Mac Mini will even run Bioshock Infinite on low, it will run it in worse than low.

Hi again guys, learning from your comments was truly helpful. You've talked me out of considering late model mac mini. I'll just then carefully build my own PC.

Macs, along with all other Apple products are SHIT. STAY AWAY FROM MACS IF YOU WANT A PC.

Since 2006, in practice: yes. Macs are PCs to the extent that other PCs are PCs.

just like I said some people unable to admit it... pseudo standardized at best, that originated from incorrect association PC with Windows. PC is not even a platform to begin with. If some people refuse to classify cats as "animals", and use it just for the rest of animals (but not cats) - that wouldn't mean "animals" will become standardized as just non-cat animals. Exactly the case with Mac: due to misunderstanding of the PC abbreviation itself, uneducated people use it to fill in the lack of non-Mac term. Indeed PC has become popular at a certain level as non-Mac definition for some (uneducated) people, but despite how long you keep arguing - it will not become correct nor standardized.

Get yourself a high-end computer, make a hackingtosh boot; there, win-win.

With 800 € gaming PC you can run practically all games on ULTRA, so choose carefully. Also if parts are compatible you can install Hackintosh there to as a second OS, but choosing compatible parts for Hackintosh when building a PC it's headache so I don't recommend.

If you're okay with the limited selection of games that are available, it should do fine. However for a primary gaming rig I would definitely recommend a windows based PC. I personally prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8 but everyone has their preferences and both should do fine. If you like Macs OS, You can always do a dual boot hackintosh like previous mentioned and simply use Windows for gaming and MacOS for whatever else.

No, just no...
Buy a gaming PC
I have an MSI GT70 (Sweet piece of hardware!)

according to my experience, my 2 cents are:
if you're only interested in games don't chose a mac, a windows pc or a console will probably satisfy you more.
if you're also interested in computer music, a mac is a great choice because of great basic sw like garageband or professional sw like logic; anyway most great music sw are available on pc, like reaper (already cited and free), cubase, live, nuendo, pro tools, etc.
if you're interested in upgrading your computer over the years, a mac mini will probably be not the best. also consider that the minis use to use laptop components (hd, gpu), which use to be compromised with performance.
if you think about bootcamping (dual boot), calculate correctly your hd or you could run out of space (both games and audoi data are space consuming).
take into account getting a gaming pc and a second hand mini (to make use of garageband you don't need a late model at all), i think that with 600€ on the first and 200€ on the second, you'll be able to get something interesting (but prepare to leave some budget for an audio interface no matter what).
whatever you're interested in, don't choose because of viruses and the such. that's all about you and not your computer or its os. be safe with your files and browsing habits and have a good backup policy, and don't be paranoid about viruses. for sure, mac has great backup sw, starting from time machine.

It's about time I upgrade my computer. At the moment I am running a machine that's 4 years old or even more and therefore is seriously outdated. My parents basically let me choose any computer within 800 euros or so, considering the fact that I won't need an upgrade in the next 4 years and it will be super comfortable in all ways.
So I can choose from very powerful gaming PC or not so powerful, but still very fascinating and slim i7 Mac mini(2012).
The question is, will it do for gaming? I am asking you, fellow steamgifters, who might have a mac here. Would you say Mac satisfies your gaming needs?
P.S. Also there is option to install Win7 on Mac and get access to all brand-new PC games like Bioshock Infinite, but from what I saw on youtube, it won't run on specs greater than low and there is risk of overheating the system. Still, I would love to hear your comments and suggestions
P.S.S. I am considering Mac not just because it's slim or it's just Apple, but because I love its virus-free OS and some specific programs like Garage band
Thanks in advance!
