Hey cg, please let us include messages when we give keys away here

One of my giveaways has recently ended and in spirit of what is it meant for, I wanted to include some sort of motivational message. But then I remembered I was sending a key on Steamgifts and I couldn't do that. So, could we please get an option to send messages with our keys like we can send them with game gifts on Steam?

While it might be a nice idea from you, remember there are all sorts of people out there, and it could turn ugly soon. Also, most people expect messages of the sort to be in a thread where they get a link, not with the key itself.

That's what user reports are for. I know that Steamgifts mod team has already enough trouble dealing with user reports, but again I don't think things would escalate dramatically .

Also, most people expect messages of the sort to be in a thread where they get a link, not with the key itself.

That's true, but those types of messages are meant for general users. I prefer to be more direct and personal with my winners.

Couldn't you put the message with the key in an email to them? Unless something changed, I think you still get the email address of winners.

Yeah, I could, but it's not really convenient anymore since keys are mostly distributed by site.

How is not convenient? Copy key to email, write message, send. It doesn't matter how others send their keys, you can use email - the site allows you, and you have access to the winner's email.

Since the changes in keys distribution, most of the users dont bother with using email as a mean to send a won game.

That's true, but seriously. How does it affect you at all? How is that preventing you from writing your email, and deliver your message along with the key?

I could write an email, but wouldn't it be nicer to have an option on the site? I'm not suggesting it's a much needed change for steamgifts to function, but it would be a very welcome and nice addition.

I wouldn't mind it - I was just saying you still can use the emails now to have the effect of what you want from the site, because you mentioned your recent experience. You know, in case you want to send a message with the game next time as well, and the feature won't be implemented by that time :)

I like the idea. That email or leaving a message in the GA are alternatives, is no reason why this shouldn't exist.
