Used to have Hitman 2016, which got delisted after they made Hitman 3 become "World of Assassination".
Edit: Wait, no. That's the HITMAN Essential Collection (Hitman: Blood Money, Hitman: Absolution, HITMAN (2016), it even kept the logo of the 2016 reboot trilogy (now World of Assassination) while not including it anymore).
Just like most Hitman fans I have quite a few things to say about this lol but it's not relevant to the question so I won't unless you're curious about the details.

I think the reason why Steam might display 6 games for Hitman Collection and 3 for HITMAN Essential Collection is because Hitman: Absolution includes Hitman Sniper Challenge which shows up as a separate app/game/entry in the Steam library. To be confirmed though, could also just be the Hitman 2016 removal.

Sniper Challenge is a separate game, so yeah, that's probably it:

Same for the Essential Collection:

Hate how they show HITMAN World of Assassination as being 90% off on the main page, but when you go to its page it's actually only "Part One" (ie. HITMAN 1 levels) rather than the full thing, which costs nearly 10x as much.

Can recommend Hitman: Blood Money though, its quality is at least on par with the reboot series, if one doesn't mind the usual "old game" jank here and there. Absolution on the other hand is easily the worst in the series (that I've played). Less a Hitman game and more like a parody that plays more like Splinter Cell. The antagonists are a bunch of sexy nuns with guns, a weird Texan cowboy carricature, and a failed super soldier experiment that you 1v1 in a wrestling match...

This. Absolutely hate this. Especially considering that's the part I'm supposed to get for free in the old system because I own Hitman 2016, now they force you to re-buy the levels you already own.
(same thing for Hitman 2 (2018) owners)

I love Hitman 1-2-3 (haven't yet played the older titles), they are among my most-played games, but as a publisher, the IOI company is so absolutely shitty that I am completely discouraged from even turning the game back on for the current event (or the last two ones for that matter).

  1. I dislike timed ET events, I want to play the game when I want to play it.
  2. I don't care about the always-online requirement, but at least make it make sense:
    • I had H1 and H2 (+ all add-ons) on Steam, both game 100%-ed
    • I bought H3 Deluxe on Stadia (for reasons) and 100%-ed it there
    • I wanted to re-buy H1 and H2 on Stadia (or maybe even did it), but they didn't allow to transfer progress from Steam
    • when they transformed H3 into WoA, they still didn't allow to transfer progress
    • when google shut down Stadia, they gave a narrow window to transfer the Stadia Progress to Steam WoA, but it would wipe my H1 and H2 progress
    • to sum up, they couldn't invent any way to sync progresses, which renders the online-saves completely useless and redundant
  3. Given all the above, I was discouraged from re-buying H3 on Steam, but eventually I will want to do that, to try Freelancer, but:
  4. They decided to roll all three games into one and bump the price, and not give any discount for already-owned content, so I am further discouraged from buying it
  5. They keep taunting us with a fake -90% discount, as Filipi already wrote.

All in all, I wish them as a company all the worst, despite them producing one of my favourite games. It takes some real talent to fsck up that bad in my book.

100% agreed. On top of what you said you also have to rebuy the Hitman 2 DLC in WoA (€7-10, with our without discount) if you want to play it and get 100% in the game (because from what I've heard even save transfer won't get you those achievements).

The Hitman franchise is one of my favourites but I hate IOI with a passion. They made the WoA change with the "we do this FOR YOU so it won't be so confusing to buy our games" slogen and they managed to make it even more confusing with a higher price and less discounts.

This is understandable, tbh. The maps get slight changes, and the challenges aren't always the same.

But the rest... Urgh.

I played Hitman: Absolution halfway through I think, on someone's Xbox. I later got it on Steam but didn't get around playing it yet.

The rest... Yeah. Especially 4 and 5. I'll add to 2 that Epic > Steam transfer isn't possible either, even though a lot of people played it on Epic during the exclusivity year and would have really loved continuing that save on Steam (that includes me - while I didn't buy the game on Epic because I wanted it on Steam, I played it a lot for limited time events and the 2016 GOTY levels). But I guess IOI doesn't want their fans buying the game twice, so...

Plus, Hitman 3's "Starter Pack" is considered a demo on Steam, while Hitman 2's Starter Pack is the base game on Steam. Both are considered games on Epic, which let you add DLCs; on Steam I only got the Hitman 2016 levels in H2 but not H3 since you can't claim DLCs for a demo (I own H1 on both Epic and Steam).

Oh, I forgot how they integrated H1 into H2 but didn't figure out a way to transfer progress so we just had to play all the levels again, lol. Sometimes I wonder how they manage to tie shoelaces in the morning.

I am one of the people that owns Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 but somehow didn't get Hitman 1 content in Hitman 2, so I am quite salty about not being able to complete it in H2. I ended up getting a cd key for Hitman 1: legacy pack in hitman 2 but it unfortunately doesn't include any of the Patient Zero stuff and now it's completely impossible to get those keys anywhere because IO decided to screw over people and recalled every single key from all third party stores. The reply I got from support and subreddit - just buy Hitman: WoA. It's annoying because there was an official statement from IO saying that "we will not force you to rebuy content you already own".

Don't you ever dare pointing something like that on the hitman subreddit because you will get downvoted by some kind of cult of zealots there.

This, combined with their misleading DLCs packaging, false advertising means I will not be giving a single cent to IO.

Also dont like this timed content BS(elusive targets).
Looks like i need Deluxe Edition and some DLCs are not included, so its 45+€
Waiting better discount...

Honestly, I am kinda done with IO Interactive. They have notoriously scummy business practices, track history of delisting games or removing content, false advertisement and so on.

Out of the ones included in the collection, I would say Blood Money is the best but I still wonder if the package is worth that much given how old they all are, and you don't really gain anything by owning them on steam.

I already have all the Hitman games apart from part 3 of the 2016 games.

IO will never get another penny from me with how they went around releasing all of that.

Fun while it lasted but they made sure to ditch this one loyal customer.

Funny... Myself, I just got so confused with all the weird Hitman releases, never knowing for sure what was a full game, what was an episode and what was DLC, what was a new game and what was a re-release of an old one....I just gave up on the whole thing and decided not to buy them. I am not even mad at them, I just didn't bother understanding the whole thing.

So, maybe the reasons are slightly different than yours, but at the end it seems we have the same reaction to it.

Cheers!

I would say Blood Money is considered to be one of the best Hitman games, but it does show its age. The other ones take some getting used to in terms of visuals and controls.

WoA's the most "user friendly" and WoA has "demo"/free starter pack, so you can always just try that and see how it goes.

As for the older ones and if they are good place to start...

Codename 47 - only worth playing for the lore, also it's very player-unfriendly when it comes to controls and game itself is not sure what it wants to be, with few levels being straight-up shooters
Silent Assassin - probably the longest game, but personally my most hated, due to many irritating stuff (mostly related to disguises and movement and detection)
Contracts - not the worst place to start when it comes to "modern controls/experience", but half of the game is reimagination of Codename 47, so not sure how it feels without playing the first game and without that "nostalgia/ohh, so that's how it was meant to look" effect/feeling
Blood Money - also not the worst place to start, but it have it's quirks
Absolution - first "modern experience/controls" game, but with half of levels without a target to kill, kinda wonky disguise system, all in all "worthy a play, but not good as first game due to how different it plays".

Is this offer worth it?

Personally I would lean towards no, since steam version doesn't offer anything special like achievements as well as personal distaste towards the company that owns it. However, those considerations aside, it is lowest price it's been so far and might be worth it for someone looking to play older hitman games.

Blood Money a legendary game. Love it.
It does show its age and feels little rough around the edges by todays standards. But its still very addictive. Levels are brilliantly crafted and gaming mechanics are quite seamless as well. IMO I think its worth getting and playing the game if you haven't yet.

Absolution was a nice installment as well. If on discount its something to grab. Played through it once or twice as it does not bring the same level of replayability as other hitman games, but its still fun.

Obviously the new games brings the level crafting and game mechanics to a new level, but with how they are bundling them in world of assassins package, I personally will steer clear. Only get it when it appears in a bundle. I got 1 and second game in Choice, so I am perfectly content in waiting until this one goes cheap.

This collection’s type is 'Complete the Set' meaning price will be reduced accordingly if a person owns some of the items included. It’s worth noting that you can get Hitman: Sniper Challenge in this set, albeit ONLY if you don’t own Absolution at time of purchase (confirmed by my friend buying it a few minutes ago). This is because Sniper Challenge, although a separate app, is tied solely to the Absolution package and is only possible to get on Steam by purchasing that game.

My friend is unlucky enough to have purchased Absolution more than 8 years ago, via a package that didn’t include Sniper Challenge. This has led to a weird situation, where he himself simply cannot purchase Sniper Challenge on the Steam Store even though he doesn’t own it.

Yes, that is because bundles are groups of packages, not groups of apps. This bundle includes the "Hitman: Absolution" package from the store, the one that includes these two apps:

205930 Game Hitman: Sniper Challenge
216429 DLC Hitman: Absolution - Sniper Challenge Unlock

https://steamdb.info/sub/18181/apps/

On the other side, there are several packages activated with keys like this one, which lack those two AppID:
https://steamdb.info/sub/17101/apps/

So if you buy the bundle already owning that package you don't get the "Absolution" store package with 3 AppID instead of 1.

Yes, I am one of those people who bought all 1 and 2 (new ones) content. Maybe just missing some dumb suit/item pack.
