Hi everyone. I am new here and I somebody stole me in my first trade. He added me in Steam with name 'Snake' and he told me to see he rep in his steam profile and he had rep++. So, because it was my first trade and I didn't have any rep, I send him the game (DmC) first, and then he sent me a faulty key and left the chat. I reported him to Steam, and I think the next time I should check rep from steamgifts and not from Steam.

Steam can't do nothing because you don't trade within steam trade windows
Basically you are giving him for free

Incorrect.
While steam will not refund keys done in outside trades, they will, and DO suspend accounts that get repeated scam reports.

Always report if you've been scammed, and provide as much detail as possible.
imgr screenshots, for example.

You can also report to Steamrep, which is another useful approach.

I didn't think about the scammer fate, and never got scammed.
It's always good to report if it include the bad fate the scammer will probably face XD

Thank you for the correction.

if it was an impersonator, you need to double check that the profile they send and the guy you are talking to are the same.
if not... don't trust steam profile rep. it can be easily faked.

at least it was a bundled game.

Steam has a policy for:

  • "don't trade Steam Keys" because we don't give a fuck about you, your trade-derpings and your safety, just don't bother us
  • you can't turn Steam Keys into Gifts (even branded Gifts that sh/couldn't be RE-SOLD) because fuck you and your safety

eh, good thing its not a big loss (bundle game)

comments on the profile = worthless, their of no use, but a complimentary addition to the feedback elsewhere (steamgifts feedback)
watch out for derps trying to link steamgifts profiles as their own ... only if you click ones link here on sg and it leads back to the the guy
you're dealing with that specific user

and consider using:

http://steamrep.com/
^ has at least the scummiest of scumbags and a very few false flags listed

http://www.enhancedsteam.com/
^ and this ... adds links (steamrep/steamgifts) and whatnot to your steam browser window (works most of the time)

I'm not experienced in this but...
I think you should use steamrep
You can see all the scammer and trusted traders from there

Hope the DMC will back to you
Btw is it key or gift?
If it's a key did he activated it?

It was a gift link from humble bundle, he used it then went offline.

Well he is a moron then. Why bother scamming and risking his account for a bundelled single player game. He could have just torrented it if he wanted to play. Much easier.

Just maybe.. I don't really know...

At least you know how to deal with that now.
Maybe you could trade cheaper things at first, in case you miss something.

Sorry to hear that.
Keep in mind that comment sections in Steam are easily faked.
The you can delete every message you want on your profile, so you could just delete negative ones.
Never trade without Steam's integrated trade functionalities.
If not possible, check references on sites like Steamgifts.

You won't get your game back or get a replacement but make sure to report him.
So he can at least be suspended or even banned.

If it's your first, second… twentieth trade, trade in small, preferably bundle games, and through a site that has some cheat prevention. I started doing it at barter.vg, where you cannot have a fake account, since every info is tied to Steam ID, not community name, and you add contacts through the site itself. No identity faking or anything, unless an account gets hijacked. I know similar sites exist for TF2 and CS:GO key trading, maybe Dota 2 too.

Yeah, I don't know how many time I've seen people offer a game as giveaway on Steam only to people who would give them +rep on their profile. The worst is that a bunch of people who want to win the game will actually do it, but then the +rep they have don't have anything to do with trading... Then they used those +rep to show how good of a rep they have even thought all they had to do to get it is give a cheap key.
Sorry you got scam, next time you just have to be more careful, I am lucky as of yet it never happened to me, but I am always extra careful. Have a great weekend!
