Because developer decided to remove it from stores, this created even more popularity, and he is still gain money for publicity.

The dev used bots to improve its rating on the store, right ? And when it was found out he kind of fled with the money and removed it from the store to avoid prosecutions.

At first I thought they were negative reviews, as it is something that happens quite a lot on the app store (you see only negative reviews but the app has 4.5 stars out of 5) and after reading them more closely, I noticed that they were in fact saying the game was extremely addictive, etc... So that wasn't really a clue that the stats have been boosted by bots.

edit : so after reading them more closely it was no longer supporting the theory that stats were "doctored". So, there was nothing more to add to what doctorofjournalism said ("none of this confirmed").

I understand, that nothing is confirmed, but since he removed quickly his game from the store, it showes me that something wasn't right.

I think people like it because it is just a simple game that offers a challenge. Nothing to do with anything else just that. Simple and challenging.
