How in the world do people spend $200 for a cosmetic modification in a game like a knife in CS:GO! Dafuq?! I haven't spent a cent of my real money on skins. I want them definitely (especially AWP, but they are so expensive) but I think spending real money is kind of wasteful. By the way, what to do you think about these skins? I got them by selling cases and cards. Total amount spent = $1.21. I also watched a Global Elite match today, all players had very very expensive skins. What do you think about this? Also, show us your collection, and what is your favourite weapon.

I used to collect stattrak guns. I think I spent about 50 euros on CSGO skins and keys. I was lucky to get a knife drop though, which I sold for a little over 50 euros. And I used to invest all my card and crate sales into csgo skins. Should be around 50-75 euros as well.
Why collecting? I really dont know. It got a little addictive
I sold most of them a few weeks back though and bought The Witcher 3 and Watch Dogs with the money I made ;)
I kept my most used stattrak guns though (Famas, Galil, Ak, M4, p250)

I bet you also spend some money on stuff you don't really need, I think you made this thread because you wish the stuff you want to be cheaper (i wish that too). But who cares how ppl spend their money, it's their money. And imagine if you open a case and you are lucky to get a knife, you will probably want one of those rich people to give you their money :P

You can see my weapons collection on my inventory (I wish we could sort the items like in tf2). I think the best gun I have is a StatTrak™ Desert Eagle | Cobalt Disruption (Factory New).

I seldom spend real money on useless things. Lots of people spending a lot doesn't mean everyone spends a lot. Of course, everybody wants cheaper skins, but this wasn't the reason I created this thread (Besides, how will creating a thread on Steam Gifts affect that?). The reason I created this, was to know why people buy such expensive stuff and chiefly to check out what other people have and what they spend on skins.

Honestly, I reckon it's probably part of some sort of small scale money laundering.

Transfer items for X amount (rarer the better, to justify insane price), and then use that steam wallet money to buy game gifts/codes to either onsell in the numerous key re-seller places or via paypal transfer (perhaps even after breaking down games into TF2/CS keys via trade).

Probably a tin foil hat conspiracy, but I don't know why else people would spend that much money on mere cosmetics in a game.

Don't see it being too different than buying brand name clothes/accessories, or buying specific overpriced gadgets, merely for the sake of showing off.

what do you complain about? these rich people keep your game going by investing money. i certainly am not rich, but i invest money in hearthstone, for example. and i already heard 1000 times "woah, how can you do that?! its free to play, lol. investing money in that game is sooo stupid!!111". well, it's simple: if everybody thought like that, there wouldn't be such a thing as hearthstone...

And instead we'd get Warcraft 4*, with full single-player campie.

Everything has pros and cons.

*Well, not really, as WoW killed nearly all chances for W4, but you know what I meant :P

Those global elites tend to have sponsorships and the sponsors pay for their skins.

I sold items for games to reach the 100$ you need to join the site. I have quite a bit in my library considering I didn't take out my wallet for any of them thanks to this community and some trading . I plan to return the favor when I'm able to . About the topic aside from trading I usually keep the items I have . Not much trading you can do in CS except the market so I just keep mine since I can't sell it there . Some items are very expensive but that's pretty much like poor seller - rich customer so I think that's where the price comes out. Yes they are rare so that adds up but most people save their knives when they get them cause it's something rare and you get it . Selling them is good if they are really 300$ cause you can buy like 5-6 AAA games and who knows how many other games ! :)

Keep in mind that spending a lot does not equal being rich... In fact, there's a moderately negative correlation.

no man, its just my family has everything, and when you have everything you spend money on stuff people will regard a waste of time. On steam I have spent so far £800, tomorrow gonna buy a knife for £200. When you have everything you just spend more money or anything even if its crap

Each to their own. One doesn't really need to be rich anyway. I have tons of games but I'm very poor.

Believe it or not, Except my hobby electronics, which are very cheap (~0.1 - 1 dollar per item). I don't spend money at all on unnecessary. I might buy a game every 2 - 3 months. Since, I am a mega super ultra introvert, I am not really into buying clothes and stuff. Parties? pffft!

junk's are poor like shit and they spend way more than that on drugs. Also people that smoke spend way more than what those ppl spend in CS:GO stuff.
I think ur problem is the mental delay, we leave in a virtual world. eveything is virtual, even ur money is a variable in a table in some bank. What makes it better to have a knife in real world rather than a knife in a game? In the real world u cant show it off.. while in a game u can show and a lot of ppl will like and envy.. So yeah.. CS:GO knife > real life knife.
Just remember games are virtual realitys, its like they were parallel dimensions to our own.

I will actually trade things like this around for profit. Normally I wouldn't just spend $1000's on virtual items, but the return can be good enough that it's worth it. I have a $800 hat in TF2 right now, but I traded up to it - I didn't just buy it with money from my wallet.
